Hyper Awareness
Anyone ever experience the feeling of "hyper awareness"?
I was sitting in a class today and suddenly became "aware" of all the other student's perspectives - either imagining (or really perceiving  ) the room, the discussion, everything from their viewpoint. Then I became "aware" of the perspectives of everyone I know; where they are, what they're doing, seeing, feeling, etc... The feeling was quite overwhelming and a bit confusing at first; it was all I could do to re-focus on the lecture. Please - no references to 'Bruce Almighty' and the prayer thing... Addendum: Yea, I know this isn't really philosophy; but where else would I post something like this?! |
Only when I was on acid... seriously.

haha, I know who you feel. I almost always feel as though I can understand and view every viewpoint present at the time. I'm not sure if it's speculation or something beyond, but it sure does make it difficult to turn any situation into a black and white one with so many colors of the rainbow flying around. |

"hyper-awareness" can mean many things. there's a kind that happens when you are lost in a city. there's a kind that happens when your sense of pattern is disrupted and you focus on a particular feature of a phenomenon. there's a kind that happens--all the time---when you are engaged in an action that involves what they call "pre-semantic consciousness"---for me, playing the piano is all about this. what you're talking about is a projection as to viewpoint, an imaginative empathetic movement based on the assumption that other people are also engaged in interactions that are like your own, so that you particular viewpoint becomes one of a host of possible viewpoints. from there, you go travelling, have an adventure.
if you want to make this a philosophical thread, you might wonder about how your ordinary sense of perceptual scale happens, what explains it, so you can think about how it might alter or deform in certain situations |
Well, I have had instances where in intense physical moments "such as sports games" time slows down and I notice everything, for example the other players body, eyes, face... the slightest twitch of a muscle can give away the future movements of an opposing player... mostly it happens where I am in situations like 5 vs 1... everybody moves slower and is predictable.... I suppose it has something to do with mindset and adrenaline...

Since this is the philosophy thread (that seems to catch all things mystic and esoteric) I was alluding to the fleeting grasp of "tuning in" to the "collective consciousness" and the feelings of "oneness" with all things...I don't get this feeling very often, just once in a while when I quiet my mind and sort of relax...
It seems like the first thing that happens is that I'm overly aware of my immediate surroundings, but then if it continues its as though I can perceive things farther and farther away....like what other people I know are thinking/experiencing, places I've been, etc. Yea, I know it sounds like LSD or mescaline....but no drugs are involved. I'm sure its rooted in my spiritual views and may be just an illusion - my only reason for posting was to see if anyone else shared the same sort of feelings/experience. |
