I saw a piece of Bourne Ultimatum last night where Jason's fingerprints were planted to implicate him.

This had me thinking about one of my daughters, who saves her first hair & fingernail cuttings in a place she calls her "DNA Box". Maybe I've read and viewed too many mysteries and CSI episodes.

I'd be intrigued to hear thoughts on this:

Isn't there going to come a day in the near future when criminals and/or politicians purchase DNA to leave at crime scenes, or to free guilty parties from prison? How can this be circumvented, prevented, rectified? Or can it?

One can already do this, actually. Finger prints, saliva, hair, etc. can all be planted at the scene. It's how people are currently framed. It can be prevented by uncircumstantial evidence.

I hope I am never in a position where someone will root through my trash for fingernail clippings, or spray some glue on my glass at a bar to take a fingerprint, or pluck some hair while I am on a bus.

Technology always has two sides to it. Technology itself is not bad, only the people that use it.

Are we talking about synthetic DNA here, or a DNA black market?

DNA is supposed to be the end all of uncircumstantial evidence. *shrug*

Moms save that first baby lock of hair, ya know? Well, she was upset that I didn't want to keep her hair from subsequent cuts and decided to keep it for herself. :p

Imagine, if you will, a world with the possibility of synthetic DNA and having yours kept not only "on file" but "in storage."

Oh... kay...! Jeeze, I was thinking... "What...?" Like that. Makes more sense.

EDIT: You mean to tell me The Man doesn't keep samples of my blood somewhere to keep up to date on me... take that as serious or sarcastic, so far I haven't become famous/paranoid enough to worry even if someone does.

Want to get away with a murder?

Get a vial of someone elses raw blood, leave some at crime scene.

Don't tell anyone, but I hear dentists are required by some unnamed international government organization to "unknowingly extract" DNA samples from every one of their patients to place on file and in storage, as I had mentioned. :paranoid:
