Jeebus Panty Syndrome

In my mind, the reason so many are abandoning the church can be traced back to something other than Dogma, Sexism, Hypocracy.....etc. But rather, to the people who get all pissy everyday about pointless things in the name of faith. As an example comes this quote:

"Why in moments of crisis do we ask God for strength and help? As cognitive beings, why would we ask something that may well be a figment of our imaginations for guidance? Why not search inside ourselves for the power to overcome? After all, we are strong enough to cause most of the catastrophes we need to endure."

Not an actual slam on anyones faith, more a question about human nature....and perhaps a piece of meat to chew on for a few minutes. But overeaction to the simple opinion of another person can make one seem a fool...or worse. Might even make someone say, Hell with this, I really dont care to be in the company of this type of person.

Way too much overreaction. Similar thing happened back when I was in high school. I was talking to one female and when she asked me about my religious views, I told her that I was an atheist. Her first question was "who do you pray to when you're scared?". My reply to her was along the lines of that quote and she (a 10th grader) handled it better than a supposedly mature person in the article did. It's only one man's opinion. Move on.

1) Only the most boring people in the world read their coffee cups. She isn't just a boring person, though, she's a boring entitled person.
2) Anyone who's religious feelings can be troubled by what's written on a coffee cup is bound to end up an atheist or a zealot. I hope she chooses the former.

I always find this sort of behavior strange. Apparently, she doesn't take other's opinions well. If we plan to live with other people, we do have to accept that some of their views may differ from our own. I'm an atheist, but I've never boycotted a store because it had a religious statement printed on it's packaging.

I don't frequent Starbuck's because I believe their coffee to be sub-par. Plus, they always screw up my order. But, I think if she continued going there, eventually they would serve her coffee in a cup that echoed her personal viewpoints.

Anyone that choose to only interact with those that have identical beliefs will eventually only be interacting with themselves.

Lemme get this straight...

Gal in Ohio...strike that...Christian gal in Ohio, gets her undies in a bunch ("As someone who loves God, I was so offended by that".) over the printing on her Starbucks coffee cup, that was put there to "collect different viewpoints and spur discussion.

Ok...

A.) Burger King's got much better coffee than Starbucks. Seriously...try it out some morning. It's cheaper...and it doesn't force you to have to think.
B.) Is her faith, in the Almighty, so weak that a mere quotation on a coffee cup can rattle her so? Or...is she simply a publicity seeker?
C.) Way to go, Starbucks! You can't buy this kind of publicity!
D.) In the end...who cares? Just drink your damned coffee.

If atheists got as outraged every time they came across a bible quote plastered across something......

Well then I'd be spending quite a large chunk of my life in outraged-mode...
