I first heard about Oak Island when I was a kid in the 80's and saw a play about it. It stoked my imagination to the point that when I went to Nova Scotia for my honeymoon in '99, I dragged my lovely wife out to the causeway to take a look.
I've read a couple of books on it, and my sense is that after all of the bungled excavations over the years, any hope of recovering whatever is down there has been lost. The best we can hope for is for the provincial government to open the island as a tourist/historical attraction which inspires future generations of kids to appreciate local history and mythology
