I'm sure most of you have heard of the legendary creature called the Chupacabra from Mexican folklore. For those that haven't the creature's name translates to Goat Sucker. I found an article that stated a strange creature was captured in Texas sometime ago, that some thought to be the chupacabra creature. I'm providing a link to the article, as I'm sure some of you here might be interested in stuff like this:

The article contains pictures of the creature, which is no doubt strange looking. Now as to whether or not its a chupacabra remains to be seen. I personally want to believe it is a chupacabra, but thats only because stuff like this always interest me. What do the rest of you think? Is it a Chupacabra? A sick dog? Or some halfbreed animal? Let me know.

Granted this beast is strange. It looks head looks canine, but it's body is like a deer. It looks like there are three claws at the end of that paw, not very common around America. You've found a bizarre link, no doubt about it CKerus.

I have heard of that thing on like unsolved mysteries or somethin like that. That does look like a sick dog mixed with a deer. Who knows where the three random claws came from though.

Thats what some of the researchers looking into the animal were speculating. Some tought it might have been the result of breeding between some wild dogs and a muntajec, which is some type of deer. Whether or not it turns out to be a new species or some genetic deviation of a common animal, all have to agree that it is some strange looking animal.

Also there was another article stating that another one of these creatures was found dead close to where the original creature was found. They had pictures of this one as well, though this new creature had a much noticable blue color to it. I'll try to find a link to that article as well.

After a few hours of sleep inbetween looking at this... It does look just like a dog that has been dead and sunbleached. The wrinkles on it screwed up the proportions of that person holding the body up (in my mind's eye). The strange paws would just be an effect of decomposition. Sorry guys. If you want to know what I believe in.

Some New Mexicans say it’s the weirdest thing they’ve ever seen: a creature – and that’s the best word to describe it – found on Albuquerque’s West Mesa.

To some, it’s simply intriguing. To others, it’s downright scary. The creature belongs to Robert Wheeler.

“It was found out on the West Mesa,” says Wheeler. ”A friend of mine was out there shooting and kicked it out of the dirt.”

“It looks like a gargoyle” said Wheeler’s friend Steve Garcia. “It has these sponge-like lips.”

Garcia and Wheeler say Hispanics seem most affected by the creature – and what it might be.

“[To people of] Spanish heritage, it’s the chupacabra,” says Wheeler. “The goat sucker is what they call it.”

A Google search will reveal many images of what people imagine the mythical chubacabra ranging from a demented Grinch-like beast to something more closely resembling the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

Wheeler delivered the creature to a New Mexico Game and Fish office where Eyewitness News 4 shot video of it – and recorded responses from people entering the office on regular business only to see the dried corpse. They weren’t sure what to make of it.

“Any guess as to what it could be,” Eyewitness News 4’s Tom Joles asked one of the drop-ins.

“Something prehistoric, I assume,” answered the viewer.

After doing some research, Eyewitness News 4 has concluded that the creature probably lived in the ocean at one time and probably isn’t either a chupacabra or an alien. Eyewitness News 4 at 10:00 on Friday will explore what the creature may have been.

I had a Spanish teacher in high school. And this kid I knew had her after I did and said that someone brought up chupacabras in her class one day and she said that when she was a little girl living in Mexico or Puerto Rico (can't remember which) that she woke up in the middle of the night because she heard noises. She then went outside and she says that she saw several chupacabras and they had her little sister in a glass jar. The kid said that she literally had tears in her eyes as she was telling them this story. I don't remember the ending of the story but it was bizarre enough that it became a big inside joke for my circle of friends.

Ironically, they also just mentioned chupacabras on this episode of Venture Brothers lol.

If it were a new species, most likely created by some weird genetic mutation in a common animal, I highly doubt that it could be able to reproduce. And even if it wasn't sterile, you'd probably be hard pressed to find another one.

Sorry reviving this old thread, but I was studying some art, and came across this picture shoving Salvador Dalí holding a creature that looks exactly like the one in the video from the link you posted. So it's not the first one captured, still - a very strange creature indeed...
