whoa. (no pun intended)
alright, i'm much more comfortable now. I will post in a few minutes about the not so quite fun experience with the cemetary. i have a lot more to tell, mainly exorcisms, which people are scared of - for good reason and a lot of nonesense (no offen catholics) tha is sometimes expected.

as a race, we've seriously managed to fuck up some stuff.

i'll get back to this soon. i wish they'd give us a Paranorma board...

I vote for the Paranormal board too...anyone suggested it yet?
I firmly believe in ghosts, spirits, whichever name you want to give them. My sister has had several very unsettling episodes during which she saw a ghost. The first was upon my the anniversary of my grandmother's death (we weren't aware of the significance of the date until later). My sister was born only a few weeks after our grandmother died so they never knew each other. One night my sister saw this old lady near her bed, reaching out to her...then she smiled and disappeared. That was it. We think it was grandma coming back to see the grandchild she missed out on. My sister also suffered from migraines. One night she was waiting for a ride (we lived way out in the country) and she was approached by a girl her age wearing old fashioned English riding gear. This girl calmly told my sister she had been killed by her horse by a blow to the head and everyone had blamed the horse when it was just an accident. She disappeared and from that moment on my sister's headaches never bothered her again. Wierd stuff.
While I have not seen a ghost myself I do know I have felt a definite presence before. The first house I owned had been previously owned by a hermit lady. She died in the house, alone, it was renovated and I bought it. Numerous times I would be in the basement doing laundry and I could feel someone watching me. I used to shrug if off as an over-active imagination until I would watch my animal's reactions when I felt it. My dog would start to whimper and boot it up the stairs as fast as she could (man's best friend, indeed) but my cat would freak! That's what made me start to think I wasn't just crazy but that they felt a presence as well. It got to the point where I would say hello to her anytime I went in the basement....but it really freaked me out, I have to admit.

Okay well I for one after reading most of the posts here can confirm two things for sure.
1) Satan does have a daughter. I know this as I've dated her.
2) If you try hard enough to ignore something in time it'll go away

Okay. I took a long break. (3 or 4 hours.. long for me!)

one night i was going to the cemetary and nothing about the day was any different than any other. no meds change, no mood swings, no odd weather. Ordinary Boring Day.

so i'm going down the road when i'm hit with an electrical feeling... in a major way and i felt myself ... pulled toward it and i saw it rush to me then poof i'm back in my chair driving. it all happened in like one second, if that long. i remember stopping driving and shaking my head, wondering if i had a seizure or something. after replaying and self diagnoses i went ahead and went... when i got this it is as if someone took over my mood. i felt a major wave of shock and fear, then anger. i told myself this just isn't me and i hauled ass. when i got home i felt fine.

now most people would feel all kinds of shit if they had a seizure or something. no doubt. but remember, my body is very different and i am use to changing on a dime. i've lalmost croaked in two minutes flat a couple of times by this point. i was wigged out due to the episode.

oh yeah. on my way to the cemetary at first a wire came unplugged in my chair, stranding me about half way. nice! lovely feeling! my brother saw me, came by, hooked it back up... the wire could not have jangled loose. it looked to had been physically unplugged.

the next morning i got to go back...... and there was a funeral being held. i called my grandfather to see just what was going on over there and he told me at 9:13 or so an old lady had passed away. the time she passed was the time i went for my walk.

at this moment in time i just didn't know what to think.... that night i went back again. i am not easily scared off and i'm exceptionally ballsy. i wouldn't let my niece go, though.. anyhow, i went and i went up to the gate and leaned on it and felt nothing. i felt silly but i was alone nand asked out loud if i did something wrong. no answers of course. then BOOM. emotions not of my own again. fear, anger and then a strong unwanted feeling. this time i left with ssome dignity and then like a kid when i was out of sight i hauled ass again.

at this point i was wigging out and i could find no answers anywhere. my parents believed me somewhat but no help. i needed to get back and face it down because i know my niece could slip off there (she was only five) and if she was harmed ... i couldn't let that happen. and also i fixed the flowers and all at the site when they'd fall over.

so i logged on to an old BBS and found a woman who at one time was a witch but bowed out of it due to some bad temptations. she no longer trusted herself not to do bad things. ihave known her for years so we talked in length and her figuring is this

i was going there when the woman died. somehow, though no body was yet buried, she was pulled to the site. somehow, she hit me. thus me seeing the cemetary "come to me" during that little spell. you know in books how, if a person turns upside down or falls they say 'the road rushed up to meet him'? that's how it felt,

so somehow she... went trhough me, and for a split second i saw through her eyes and senses and i think it is why i had the troublesome emotions afterwards.

so i went bck again... and i went straight up and spoke out that if i had offended, i was sorry. fifi had to go, i would, but i had been helping out and wished to continue. i plead. then i told them something silly i cannot recall, a type of warning to not fuck with my niece.

from that night on the only emotion i had there was peace.

oh yeah. one time I went to look around. i had had a little Chihuahua named Gizmo from 96 until thanksgiving 2001. anyhow, he followed me everywhere and acted like a pitbull. he was protective. he oftentimes went with me to the cemetary and would sit outside of it and wait on me (this is the only place ever where i didn't allow my pets.

i had another dog too for a few weeks (had to take him to the humane society) and he was very protective of me also. so the two dogs and I went to the cemetary and i turned around.. they were sittin g on the main road like 'have fun! see ya!'

it was odd. i went back to them, they followed me in the direction home. i circled back. they stopped. they would *not* cross over. period. they just looked at me like im dumb. so i left early.. he next day, both followed me, Gizmo sat down and Black Dog tried to get into the gate.

its just odd. and no, there were no skunks around

When a lot of wierd stuff was happening to us kids when I lived at home my dad finally researched the house. He found out that a funeral home used it to stored coffins...kinda creepy..

When we first moved there I was five years old. My sister made friends with "Herman" her "imaginary friend." Very real. She told us he had two kids. Those kids played all kinds of pranks on us. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs, two in the back where the attic used to be. One day my sister and I were playing house in one of those back bedrooms and we wanted to go down and play outside. The only thing is the door wouldn't open to the bedroom. Now this door doesn't latch. At all, and still doesn't. You can open it by just tapping it with your index finger. Anyways, the door would open a little and then slam shut again. The only other person at the house was my mom and she was downstairs watching tv. We starting screaming and crying and suddenly the door just opened and let us out. Really freaked us out.

I always felt and seen spirits when I worked in the basement of my work. (nursing home) One of them a male would freak me out a little. But only because he would run behind me or stand just behind me when I was washing my hands. I talked to him. He would also watch me fold linen. One time I thought one of the other workers was standing across the room (I didn't look up) and I started talking to her. She didn't answer me. I looked up and he dissapeared. Kinda startled me and I told him so. That happened after I hadn't seen him for awhile. I've only seen him once or twice since I switched jobs within the home. .

My mother told me that when I was a baby we lived in gheto neighborhood in Houston. She saw my grandma (who died when my mom was 6) twice. Once she was leaning in the crib and gave me a kiss and the other she was hovering over my aunt Missy. A couple of years ago my sister lost a baby after carrying it for four months. Back home she was laying on the couch stareing into the kitchen and then she saw what turned out to be gramma holding a little blonde baby boy. She told my sister (through feeling) that he was ok now and that everything would be ok.
sorry so long...Many more if you'd like to hear them.

First I would like you to see my siggy. I suggest so that word gets around that you replace my name with yours and add it to your siggy. The more its seen, the better chance we have of having a place dedicated to this, and I know with just 3 people we could fill it up, and I know LOTS of people are interested.

Secondly, that is simply amazing Z, freaky but amazing none-the-less. Before i knew what the presence was, I would NOT enter my laundry room until I had music playing or something to distract me.. and i'd always haul ass up my stairs to the main floor. Since then I just walk down there, but I'm usually talking to them. It weird when you're freezing and you get a cold chill (as you're already ice cold....) or its a hot HOT sunny day, with no wind... Thats how I became interesting in my "chills"

My friend has told me to never try to speak with animals, mentally that is, as if I ever connected they would crush my mind. I dunno about that, I still try on occasion.. might be a simple fantasy that'll never come true, but i'd love to speak with them, as they are no where near as stupid as some people like to think. This of course is yet another thread for our forum to be...

Bender, You say you've dated Satan's Daughter? How did you do that? Perhaps I should post my picture up sometime so you could show, I bet she'd be pissed. She's attacked me in my dreams and I succeeded, then attacked me in real life, when I was spiritually in hell and physically still on Earth (really confusing to explain that). Of course when she attacked me while i was concious, my angel stopped her lash to mind, and then she casted a spell only to miscast because she was in too much of a hurry. Who knows... Maybe she respects me to a degree, seeing how i just jumped in to help my friend out, that and the demons that enter my house i do not yell at, I just tell them Jokes, just like anyone else. Also as i said, I "dueled" with her, and held my own.

I simply cannot wait until we have a forum of our own so all these thoughts can be analyzed individually in their own threads.

My mom once told me that when I was very little, and my grandfather had recently passed away, we were driving to town, and I began talking. She asked me who I was talking to and I said "Grampa" I was too young to make this stuff up (like 4 or somthin) and anyway, she asked how he was, and I told her. It happened a few other times as well. I wish I could talk to him now.

ahem, back to the circle of light. Have you tried holding a piece of paper up against the wall over the circle of light? You could then move the paper away, keeping the circle of light on it to see where it came from.

If you have a laptop, it's fan may have turned on while you were away at lunch and blown warm air over your mouse and wrist pad. Or maybe someone was 'borrowing' your computer, and warmed the chair that way.

You mentioned that you have an AC vent below your desk at home. If the heat turned on, it could have possibly warmed the circle on your desk.

Maybe you were smelling pipe smoke. It could have come from outside, and your air vents could have caused the irregular smell distribution.

So here's something interesting...the globe of light is gone. Neighbor's light on or off doesn't seem to matter. The globe of light just is not there. No new vegetation has grown to block our window. Very odd.....oh well.

I haven't worked in my basement office for a while, so I have nothing new from that aspect. Maybe it was all just a bunch of freak occurrences that when lumped together seem like something more.

The whole thing with the globe of light going away is still a bit weird though.

Found that site the other day whilst I was searching for some answers and trying to validate that I'm not crazy. It's got some interesting things on it. The pictures in the library are the most unsettling/interesting.

Right now I'm listening to bumps and bangs in the house and getting freaked a little, but I know it's just my kids hitting the wall while they're sleeping, freaky nonetheless.

You all have some really great stories, very interesting stuff. I will post some of the things that happened to me in college in a separate post.

Let me give some background first. The building that I lived in was a house that had been converted to student living, there were about 15 of them on campus. All row houses for the old mills that were in town. There were only nine people living in ours. Our room was on the first floor just off the front door and we had three windows that opened on to the wrap around porch. The walkway to the front porch was half dirt and half pavment so it got a little muddy when it rained....now for the first of many eerie things that happened.....

My roommate and I were just sitting around drinking copious amounts of Coke to stay awake to study. We were shooting the breeze at 3 am when we heard someone come up on the porch. We didn't really think much about this since people came home at 3 am all the time. We heard heavy footsteps go around the porch three times, pausing at the side door-someone else's room and pausing at the front door.

Now we were totally freaked out, but figured that someone forgot their keys. We decided, though it was raining, that we weren't going to offer to let them in unless they asked nice. Moments after deciding that the front door slammed open. The force of the door opening shook the bookshelf on the wall the door hit. We got pissed and decided to investigate.

We both went out ready to kick someone's ass and noticed that there were no foot prints anywhere. No mud. No wet rugs. The door jamb wasn't damaged. At this point the guys in the room above ours were coming down the stairs. They had heard the door and were also pissed. We explained what happened and summarily freaked them out.

We checked the porch, bringing our keys with us, just in case. Not foot prints. We checked the muddy walkway-no footprints. No one could have jumped from the sidewalk to the porch so now, we were terrified.

When we got back inside the two guys from the room in the back of the house were up and pretty pissed off. It seems that someone was banging on their door, very hard and very loud. We all explained what had happened and the terror in our voices and our pallor gave creedence to our story.

That was one of many freaky things that happened. Some of the things happened during the day, others at night. There was no pattern and everyone was experiencing weird things. It went on like that for the two years I lived in that house.

Very strange. I've had my daughter's toys make noise on their own. It usually happens when the batteries are running low. If they were from the same kitchen set, that could explain it.

The one you have the best chance of explaining is the light. What you need to do is get your heard right where the light is, even if you have to stand on a ladder. Try and intercept the source of the light with your eye. If that doesn't work, get a piece of cardboard and hold it up to the spot. Make sure the spot on the wall is gone. Now move the cardboard in various directions to see when the spot comes back and when it's gone. You should be able to chase it to its source.

Other than that, do like they do in the movies and find out if anyone was murdered in your house :>

okay, this thread has some seriously freaky stuff in it. I've never seen anything like this but my mother swears she has a guardian angel that she can see every now and then and she even knows his name...

However, I have felt some strange stuff that I don't know how to begin to explain. I've always chalked it up to my mind playing tricks on me. And why does seem that every time I hear about demons they always hide and never come out in the "open" persay? Its in books, its in movies and in peoples posts in this thread... If demons are real and can't be seen anyway, why don't they just walk in the open??

I have about 5 solid ghost/paranormal stories... and I'll share with you sometime, but I'm at work now so I just pose a question.

Those of you w/ spirits in your house (me included) do you feel a bit akward with sex or masterbation? It creeps into the back of my mind at times that someone is disapproving...

I also believe that some one is resposible for waking the kids 9 out of 10 times I'm about to get nasty.

Damn ghost... her name is sarah by the way, she's nine years old and died of the flu many many mnay years ago... My house is just shy of a 100 years old.

Then there that damn Berdella two doors down... had to go and torture, fuck and then chop up gay prostitutes, burying them in his back yard (5 bodies total). his house is gone but the lot is there.

So if anyone knows their seriel killer history and knows Bob Berdellas story... hey you know where I live now come on down.

Another wierd thing that just happened to me just recently.

Alpha phi and I had just arrived home and it was a beautiful night. Not a cloud in the sky. I commented on the stars and continued to look at them. Alpha phi went inside and got on the computer. I always look for shooting stars so I leaned against the truck watching and waiting. I noticed a small white light and watched it for a few seconds. All of a sudden a really tiny light flew really fast next to it. Not fluid movements either, very eradic. I followed the lights and the bigger one stayed on a straight course and eventually the other broke off and flew around a bit. A car drove by the house and broke my concentration. I looked at the car and when I looked back up the lights were gone. I sighed and went inside to tell Alpha phi what I had just seen and he was like " My god I was just about to come out and ask you if you got lost!" I laughed cuz I thought he was joking and pointed out that I'd only been outside for maybe 10 minutes but I doubt even that. He looked at me like I was crazy and said I was out there for over an hour!! I argued with him for quite awhile because I know I wasn't. But then I looked at the clock and was shocked. He jokeningly asked me if I was obducted or something. Before I even told him what I saw!! When my face went slack he asked what my problem was. I told him he wasn't funny and then told him what I saw. I can't explain the time difference. My brain tells me I was only looking at the stars for not even 10 minutes but the clock and Alpha phi say otherwise. I haven't star gazed since. Kinda scared to.

i had a theory a few years ago and I'm curious to what you guys think:

perception. all creatures that see normally see in a different manner and some animals would not even realize that some of us exists until we actually touch them. its where the positioning and the speedo f the being percieves things:

i think maybe some people are wired to see things the normal guy can't.

its far fetched.. but i think the beliefe in the lack of anything supernatural is silly . and i think a lot of ghost stories are too.

you thing to seriously consider though:

a weird sound off and on. creepy. it can be a rat.

you sit and your door opens completely, shuts, then opens again.... dude..... that's no fucking rat....

GStrider: Either they watch quietly or they give me my time, either way I don't feel bad about it. As long as they hide from my eye, I wont' feel freaked. And if they do show themselves, I'm sure the know that I'll talk to them to no end to teach them a lesson I do tho, if they bug me, I just talk to 'em and shit... I say hi to them, and them back. I don't think any of them want to annoy me, as I treat them as equals.

Well, 9 years old and masturbation is still thought ill of, and for sex? 9 years old is that cooties stage isn't it? Also you say the house is almost a hundred years old, well if you go back just 50 years, those things were thought a lot worse than now, AND we're still dealing with a nine year old girl(if it was a guy he'd whack with ya , or (sex wise)just watch you instead of waking kids up ). But yeah that kinda sucks, how do you know all that about her? Find out information about the house? or can you see AND speak with them?

Atropos: Thats freaky cool. I always look up for moving things, and want to talk with them, but thats freaky. As for the abuction, I'd think we'd remember, I still don't know how they could "erase" memories, the only way i could remotely believe that is if you combined atlantis with some aliens. Then you'd have ancient advanced civilization that would know our brains as we're similar in species and even that is a big iffy (the brain eraser part). You did what many of us gamers do, you just completely zoned out. When i'm playing in a good game, I'll say to myself, "Just 10 more minutes Joe, then you gotta do your homework" Then after "10 minutes" I'll stop, look at the clock and find out that it has been 2 hours! I know I was abducted, someone would have known. And notice, since a car distracted you, then that means no cars drove by before that, so you were able to ignore everything except for the UFO's. I would have loved to see that with you. I've seen 2 instances where I believe to have seen a UFO, facinated yet freaked out both times. I'd love to meet one, but I honestly don't know exactly how I would act in the presence of another form of life (no matter how similar) from space.

Z:Yeah I think that holds some truth, not all of it, but some. I mean if i was only in tune with solid objects, then a ghost might be hard, heck this kinda works when a bird flies into a window. It sees thru it and so it doesn't exist in its mind. Heck I can sit in the main room of my house and have 20 people (all at once) walk into the house and pass the room I'm in, and sometimes i'll be so oblivious i won't notice. I've had times where i'd see them go downstairs... then 20 minutes later since seeing them, they'd go downstairs again! heh so yeah, so people(and animals) just won't see certain things... This also goes to show how you can train yourself in some of the "psychic" abilities, as you open your mind more so that you can perceive what you already say....subconciously. Also tho, I think there are some abilites that are unique to people, animals.. and even individuals. I MIGHT be able to train myself to see them, but i'm not sure if I'll ever be able to hear them speak in words. Others who can hear voices, might just be able to train themselves to see too (very wise if you wanna stay out of looney bin), but they may never learn to feel a spirit. I'm sure there are more than just those three, but I kinda of look at those as the general 3. But yeah, thats what I think about that.

a weird sound off and on. creepy. it can be a rat.

you sit and your door opens completely, shuts, then opens again.... dude..... that's no fucking rat....
Yeah, some things you won't be able to explain, no matter what idea you can think of, some of them are supernatural... period. Its not a rat, Oh the window is open.. differences in pressure made it open and close..... wait, i just sat down as it opened again.. window is closed.. Ah its the rat again... {click}... there its locked and shut now.....

...20 minutes later....

Wtf??? Its open? But i've been hard at work at this report... how'd the door open?

Yeah that might seem really extreme, but I wouldn't doubt it happening to someone, besides the door lock might just provoke them to bang on the door, which would REALLY freak you out, and slow you down as now you're constantly hiding out at the door so you can open it up and scare the person who is behind the door (even tho you know that nobody else is home).

Psychic abilities eh? hehe.. I reckon I can sense people looking at me.. like ESP.. but I think everyone has something like that. I firsted reckoned it when I was little on a paper run. ok I wasn't THAT little, around 15, but yeah I was on my paper run and it was like a tingle in my mind from the direction, after I put the paper in the letter box I turned my head real fast in it's direction, I have NEVER seen curtains move so fast in my whole entire life. hehe
These days it's just automatic, I think people think I'm just weird when I look at them when they're looking at me from a distance.

And why don't Demons walk around for everyone to see, cause most people don't believe in them, if they WERE to walk around in plain sight then then that'd open up the to the probability of god which is what they're trying to prevent.

i'd kill to get MRIs on all of us weird motherfuckers.

i dunno about psychic abilities. i just say:

there's a whole lot of shit that happens that we cannot explain.

i just remembered one connection to me. in dec. '99 til mid -jan 2000 i was in the hosp including ICU for three or so weeks. i kept passing out like sporaticly. no rhyme or reason.

once i passed out and mom was at home asleep. it was a tough one. abou 20 mins later i called mom. couldn't get her........ then she walked in.

said she was asleep when she 'heard' mee. she came imediatly. this-is-just-one-of-many-things-i-experience-very-often.
not like once a year or some what. some of us have really really fucking weird lives. me included.

so to completely say 'there is absolutely nothing to believe in but people and animals on earth', to me, is like say "I know you have the flu but i can't see the germs with my naked eyes, therefore it doesn't exist!!!"

i don't get complete full skeptisism. hell, i'm a skeptic until i check shit out. but i know its quite possible.

anyhow

I know the history from the nieghbors. Also from her name etched in one of the beams in the basement.

I've never "seen" her. But I hear her all the time. Coming up the stairs and up in the attic. I found a bunch of her toys under the floor boards as I was ripping them up months ago. Doll dresses so old they pretty much crumbled when I touched them.

I have one experience I'd like to share but, I have to idea if it deals with the "supernatural" per say.

Several years ago, I remember vividly waking up in the middle of the night from a peaceful sleep in cold sweat. But that wasn’t all as soon as I woke up I had an intense feeling of something being serious wrong and that someone had been killed. This plain freaked me out, because this feeling didn’t just come and go, it lingered with me for several minutes. I mean this feeling was so strong that I can’t describe it in words. I remember looking at the clock and trying my best to shrug the feeling off and go back to sleep. After God knows how long I managed to fall asleep. As it turns out later the next day my parents got a call from my aunt saying that my cousin had died last night in a car wreck a little after midnight. Which it turns out was about the same time I woke up and freaked out. Personally I don’t know what to think about the whole thing.

prophecy: exactly. your 'connection' cut off when he died, shocking your system, thus awakening you.

how many people here have known something is just not right with someone we are 'connected' to?

another example:

one of my best friends and I connected. she lives about 1,200 miles from me. if i felt sick, she'd call with no tip off. if something happened to her, i'd feel it. I'd call and find out what is wrong.

I do not mean like 'oh yeah i broke a nail' or a sittuation where you can throw any possibility to fit. i'm talking possible serious effects. a friend was devestated once, thought she had aids: I felt it. she had a really bad fight with her b/f. i felt it.

to deny our sight of such instincts, of such evidence screaming "look at me" is just insane.

Z-had the same feeling once...I had a dream that one of my college friends was in trouble and needed me. I woke up and realized I had no way of finding her. I had no phone number or anything. Oddly enough, she called me the next day, she had broken up with her b/f and was devastated and wanted to talk to me. It was a freaky thing.

Here's my only direct paranormal experience. It's so minor that you'll probably snicker at me, but being an engineer, it's very significant to me.

When my wife and I were dating, we used to spend a lot of time on the phone because she lived 50 miles away. One night we had been talking for some hours, when we decided it was way past time to be in bed. We said our goodnights and hung up the phone, but I heard her say "Oh, wait!" So I diled her back again. Only as it was ringing, I realized that it was in just the order I wrote it: I had hung up the phone and then heard her say "Oh, wait!" And I also realized that I didn't hear it with my ears. It was clear as anything, her voice, in my head, but there hadn't been sound. She picked up the phone, and I didn't quite know what to say. Sheepishly, I said "Um, did you say "Oh, wait!" right as we hung up just now?" There was a long pause. She said, "No, I didn't say it, but right after I hung up I thought it. I remembered something I wanted to tell you." Every hair on my entire body stood straight up. (and that's a lot of hair). It was the strangest experience I've ever had, and there's no "logical" explanation for it.

Is it possible the light on the wall was a reflection from a CD? That's happened to me before and it hardly needs any light to make a visible reflection. Maybe someone moved the CD, and that's why it's disappeared.

Okay, I'm gonna take my shot at this, and spill some crap, too. I know this thread is old, but what the hell. Kadath has a great point: once you get freaked out by something, you'll be even more sensitive to it. Take a deep breath and relax. Put some music on or whatever to get your mind off of it.

The most interesting part of your post, to me, was the "hot spots" you mentioned in your house. I've done some research on paranormal (due to some peculiarities of my own house) and found that 'hot spots' are unique to paranormal research. Mostly because they can be measured. If they extend to areas of your house instead of chairs and objects, especially if they are combined with the smoke smell, you might want to search online for more information. They could be linked. As for the pipe smell itself, I dunno. You should research a few items for your own sanity: the history of your house and previous occupants; and the history of the land. If the house is old, focus on the first one, if the house is new, focus on the second one.

My house is 15 years old. Previous owner was single, and she had been married twice. We did not find out what happened with the marriages. One of her front bedrooms had been decorated with lots of antiques. Bedframe, dolls, etc. When we first viewed the house, she showed us a 100-year-old wedding gown she had just bought. I thought it peculiar, but interesting just the same. When we moved in, my computer room was in the other front bedroom, and for the first year we lived there, the antique room was just darker than the rest of the house. As I walked by to my computer, I occasionally thought I saw male figures in the room, out of the corner of my vision, but brushed it off. I knew it was freaking me out, so I ignored it. There was just a presence to that room that was nowhere else in the house. But then the smoke smells showed up a year later, in odd spots in the hallway. When I was out at work and my wife at home, she would hear footfalls coming down the hallway towards our room. They were so realistic she often thought I was home. They began occurring at night, also. It was unmistakeable. I would hear them come down the hall and stop in front of the closed door, sometimes going back down the hallway to where the floor doesn't creak. I slept facing the door for a year. We also experienced some warm spots in that odd room which were too far away from the floor mounted heater vent.

At this point, we began dreaming up stories of what fate the previous owners' husband had met, and joked about the two freezers she had kept in her garage. One hot afternoon, we were cleaning up left-behind stuff on the side of the house with a rented pickup truck, and found two odd items. One of them was a rather freaky looking totem pole (I still remember the top face). The other was an item tightly wrapped in plastic, and rather heavy. By shape, it would be the exact same size as a human thigh, and weighing possibly twenty-five pounds. We did not unwrap this item, although we should have. It was not potting soil as it had little 'give' to it, and did not bend in any way. It was quickly loaded into the truck and driven to the dump. Good riddance.

The upstairs phenomena continued. After writing to a California paranomal society and getting no response, I took my own course. I know this sounds silly, but hey, you never know what you'll do until you're faced with it. I began talking to them. Out loud. I'm happy to report I heard no verbal response. I began telling them they really were keeping up awake and freaking us out. I asked it if would be okay for them to go next door, or even down the street. I was really trying to be nice. Within a month, the phenomena stopped. I'm hoping for good. Except....

Our house was listed for sale last summer. All of the agents who toured it were jealous of our selected agent: they knew the house was in tip-top shape, had beautiful landscaping, and would sell quckly. While no noises showed up during the time it was for sale, no offers did either. We only experienced two odd things during this time: one shopper expressed to our agent that our house was 'too clean.' The other we watched: from a block away, we viewed a family and agent get out of the car, and walk to the front door. Someone spotted something near the front door, and they never went inside. They quickly got in the car and left. What did they see??? Our agent was not able to get any information from this, but I still wonder. I want out of this house.

I'll take some time later and describe a few other freaky items that occurred during my childhood.

Hey, are we going to get a paranormal board on tfp?

Wow, there's a lot of people on this thread. Cool!

One item I wanted to mentionthat goes right back to Kadath's early post: smell and memory are very well linked. They are side by side in the front of your brain. This is why you can easily remember the smell of Grandma's house, or Grandma's cooking.

Next, Atropos4: if you're s/o is gonna leave you outside for over an hour, he should be smacked upside the head! In fact, give him a good smack for me when you see him again!

Finally, I'm so glad to see so many people sharing these stories without any interjected jokes or people telling us that we're nuts. Very cool.

Found some links I used previously.

I found the source of the light. It appears that on certain nights our neighbors (plural) lights reflect in a certain way that it shines on our wall through the gap between the window and the shade. PHEW!!! So far that's the only explainable thing I have found.
