Premonitions
Who here has real premonitions and in what circumstances do they happen the most?
I used to get them quite a bit but the number has dwindled in the past few years to only occasionally. When I do get them, they involve people I have a strong emotional connection to and almost always about a bad event or circumstance such as a friend getting hurt. Can anyone where tell when they are about to get them? If so, how can you tell? I have never been able to know.

I have had a few premonitions in my life, all of them via dream. I can't remember all of them, but one I had when I was about 12 I remember vividly.

pre·mo·ni·tion [ prèmmo nísh’n, promo nísh’n ] (plural pre·mo·ni·tions) noun 1. intuition of future event: a strong feeling, without a rational basis, that a particular thing is going to happen 2. warning about future: an advance warning about a future event [Mid-16th century. Via French from, ultimately, Latin praemonere “to forewarn,” from monere “to warn.”]

Happens to me pretty often. Strangely enough, it's mostly with games that have random events, like RPG's etc. Probably because I spend too much of my time playing them, but anyways..
One example, I was playing a neat shareware game called Barrak. My mate was with me, and as a joke, I figured I'd ask the game for a laser. Well, I asked, and I received. Almost right away. Freaky enough the first time, when it happened every single time I asked for about an hour of playing, that's just whacked.

Happens to me with plane crashes/air disaters I have a certain dream I when one is going to happen....its not about the particular crash itself but I have what I call my "airplane" dream in one of 3 different forms (actually I guess there are 4 now) My newest one actually seems to involve a blimp not an airplane...I've had them since I was 17ish, the Pan AM 103 crash (Lockerbie Scotland) was the first one I remember, I was 20, but my mother says I had a few before that. There isnt a rhyme or reason to it near as I can tell.
I just know if I have it....something is going to happen within a short amount of time.

When it happends to me, it's like I'm remembering whats going to happen. It is usually about me making some comment that people take offense to. Haven't had one of those in a long time though. Seems like I have a sense about cops too. I speed pretty regularly and know the area well. When I have this feeling, I can usually pick out the spot that the cop is camping on the road ahead. It recently failed me though...Just got back from court fighting a ticket. Blockading, no points, not on my record

sorry for raising this thread from the dead, but I also get premonitions. Never anything important, just quirky little details
Based on this, I believe that you are born with the details of the future implanted in your brain, you just can't access them. but every once in a while something slips into your subconcious and you have a premonition. I'm sure everybody has these, they just don't make the connections because its not necessesarily a detail they pay attention to. Last edited by Zephyr66; 12-24-2004 at 03:19 PM.. |

Yes I have had a few premonitions. Never been any use however - I still haven't won the lottery. I will give you 2 examples. I was playing poker and I suddenly knew what everone elses hand was. No bloody use as we had stoped betting and was about to show the cards . The second example was a dream about work. In this dream I was working with somone I did not know who had a broken arm. About 2 months later we had a new member of staff start, the day after he started he came off his motorbike and broke his arm. I did not remember the dream until he came back to work with his arm in plaster.

I've had dreams about conversations and situations that then occured in real life.
I get an awful sense of deja vu when it happens. Could be complete crap. Maybe my brain is just playing tricks on me.

I myself think that premenitions are something normal to humans...especially to mothers for some reason... Alot of premenition experiences for me have always been because of observations that I haven't given myself a chance to go through yet. And sometimes it just is that we are able to see things...

i used to get them a lot more frequently than i do now.
at first i thought my mind was playing tricks on me, but after sharing one with a friend i became a believer. mine have never been far into the future, usually just a few moments to a day or two tops. a couple of "big" ones i recall...in high school i was preparing to go on a school trip and had a dream about being on the bus and the bus caught fire and there was smoke everywhere. it was a little odd cause i'd been on trips like that dozens of times and nothing like that happened so i had no reason to be worried about this one. went on the trip, the bus overheated and there was smoke everywhere (but no fire). in college i was riding in the back of a car with some friends when we came to a stop sign. i got this...impression? i don't know how to explain it, it was like remembering something that had happened and you could see it in your head. but in this "memory" when we started moving forward again a car came out of nowhere and t-boned us. i was totally aware of what was going on around me, but it kinda freaked me out. we started moving and nothing happened. i just thought it was a freaky feeling i'd had. we stopped at another friend's house and i didn't give it another thought. on our way home as we pulled away from a stop sign, a car t-boned us. if i'd been driving, or shared my thoughts with the driver, i'd have doubted it--but since i wasn't and i didn't... i've had a few others regarding cars as well, typically about accidents i'm involved in. though one time i "saw" a car getting hit by a van at a redlight i was stopped at, once we crossed the intersection we saw it happen in the rearview mirror. typically though, it's about little things. thinking of someone and they call, "knowing" something during a game i'm playing, that sort of thing. |

like someone else said, sometimes i am listening to the radio, and i think of a song and it comes on. that can happen to me several times in a single day.
i don't really have visions of things that come to be. however, i do get feelings that things are about to happen. like one time i was walking across campus to go to a class, and as soon as i crossed one street, i got a really bad feeling that something was going to happen that night. on the way back from class, i was walking with one of my friends, and she almost got hit by a car.

i tend to dream the near-future, within a couple weeks or so. they're typically very mundane, but extremely vivid. unfortunately, i usually dismiss them because they're so random. you would think that I wouldn't do any dismissing after a while, but they always seem to have little meaning. i've always been very busy as well, so have never delved very deeply into them.
although i can remember one awful premonition, and this wasn't a dream. when I was 14 or 15, my mom told my two brothers and I that she was pregnant again. we all had our looks of shock, but I think I was the only one who didn't feel very good. I said the typical phrases -- "That's great, Mom" -- and started to walk downstairs. She asked what was wrong and I said that I felt weird. She asked "Good weird or bad weird?" I lied and said "Good". A few months later, three months before the baby was to be born, she gave birth to a premature baby boy, to be named after my father, who was able to take one breath in my mother's arms but was officially a stillborn. I'll never forget that one, I can assure you. |
