Personally, i think its all BS (Just like all other "black magic" related trash). But I've heard some weird "stories" surrounding the use of Ouija boards.
Once my friends were playing around with one when their solid wood bunk bed mysteriously fell over. Luckily, none of them were hurt. Also, the same night lightning storms were raging all over.
When they disposed of the board in the trash, it all stopped.

Just another line of coincidences, I think....

NEVER.

I believe there is a God and like wise, I believe there are evil spirits in this world. I know of too many bad things happening with Ouija boards to EVER want to use one.

They freak me out. A group of us tried out a Ouija board in college. We took it to an old abandoned farm house in the country that was reportedly haunted. There were three people with their hands on the pointer and the answers it was giving were really creepy. A few days later, a girl approached one of my firends and asked if he had been messing around with a Ouija board. He told her that he had. She told him she practiced Wicca and warned him to stop messing around with the board before things got out of control. That was enough for me to believe we shouldn't be messing around with stuff like that.

yup, i stay far away.
i'll admit, i have a major fear of the unknown.

I don't know if anyone will remember or not, but years and years ago, on the show Unsolved Myserties, they had a story about a women who used a ouija board and became paralyzed the next morning and couldn't sit up in her bed...

...this scarred me for life.

Like LSD, it's tempted me, but i'm a bit too wary to try it.

i most likely will one day but i will _require_ another person who is spiritually powerful. call me crazy but i got some strong beliefs.

also, it seems like I remember a ritual priests use to use if they needed to use any medium that supposedly clears
out and cleanses the air of spirits.

I am extremely skeptical.

I try to keep an open mind, but eesh, I don't think there's any way for those "stories" to either be true, or that can't be written off as coincidental.

I tried the oujia board the first time when I was in 3rd grade. I got so fascinated with the thing I bought my own. I don't know if this thing really works or not but it got freaky. Once in awhile some "ZAZ" character would start controlling the eye piece and start going nuts and spelling weird words. A story I was told was if one of us were to let go without saying "Goodbye" some thing bad would happen to that person. So, this "ZAZ" characer would go nuts and we would ask it if we could go "Goodbye", but he would go "No". This freaked us out, and we would ask again nicely, and it would go "Yes" then "Goodbye". Another story I was told was if the owner was to throw away the board, it would come back. Give it to someone, then that person was burdened with it. So, I gave it away to a friend. I haven't talked to this guy since. I don't know if this thing is the real deal or not, but its freaky.

I've been advised not to.. and i've heard LOTS of stories from friends. Have you heard of the original boards? Sure it was publicized as a game, but thats not it origins... It originally was made of stone.. Now how would you feel if your using a slab of stone and its floating across the board?? A friend of mine who has been getting help for a while now, once used one of those on his own... and he told me how he got stuck.. was it a Lie? maybe.. as he does take medicine now... but then.. I have a good friend who we hold back NOTHING... His sister once used on her own... It started going crazy and she had therapy for a year because of it... A good religious friend and he wouldn't make that kind of thing up. I've have religious leaders tell me not to, Personally if a Wiccan says 'no' that would be enough for me. One day a few years ago I found board in my closet... been there for years and never knew it, no triangle thingy tho. Once at my uncle's a bunch of us tried it... We talked to a girl in heaven who was murdered.. shot 7 times before an eighth to the head.... She was in close link with an older lady who was in hell(or the equivolence there-of).. She regretted all she had done, but told us it was too late for her, who knows how long she had been there. Then we kept going back to her "master" who was ZAMPS or something close to that spelling, either a demon or the devil while he was high, who knows but it really was freaky. I don't use them, they are intriguing, but I would advise against them. Know its origin before the milton bradley one... gives a little backstory about it.

Btw... This seems like another great thread for a paranormal section of TFP.. don't you agree?

I own a Ouija board. Got it for a Christmas present when I was 10. Once made one out of a Nordstrom gift box when I was 8. Never had a single weird, out-of-place thing happen while using the Ouija board. I've heard stories too, but as nothing's ever happened to me, I take them with a grain of salt. I also take what the board says with a grain of salt. Haven't used it in many years, but it is fun to pull out at parties--that and Twister.

I have one. No freaky stuff happening with my board. I don't have anyone to use it with much anymore, save for my best friend who has used it with me a few times over the years. I had a group of friends in middle school and high school.. we'd bust it out at pretty much every slumber party and do a séance sort of thing. There was one time when my friends contacted a spirit that was not so friendly, and my friend started choking in the middle of a session like she was being strangled. It only lasted for a few seconds. We'd had enough of Ouija for the night.

That's not to say we stopped forever. If you want to contact something, make sure you know VERY well who you want to talk to. Just don't call some random spirit. If you believe that it will work, then you want to make sure you don't putz around and ask for a demon or something like that. You could get some bad results. Not that I ever have, personally.

On my board, it doesn't work if all the people using it don't believe it will work, or are in the slightest bit skeptical. Everyone has to be willing to participate and believe that the board will function properly for it to do so. This was not so with my friend's Ouija board, only mine. Can't say why. I've tried it with my brother, and being that he is skeptical, there was no response.

Am I afraid to use it? Nah. Have I used it lately? Nope. Haven't had the inclination. Poor thing is just collecting dust in my closet. Maybe I can find someone to play with it one of these days.

I guess we all have our bad stories about Ouija boards.

I remember I was on a trip with a big group of friends in Washington state. There were about 30 of us, I guess and we were all 8 to 10 (yes, we did have chaperones, we weren't just wandering around). Anyway, one night we stayed in a youth hostel and they had a bunch of board games for their guests, one of which was a Ouija board. We all sat down with it and just started playing around with it.

People cycled in and out, so the same person wasn't running it the whole time. But I remember that by the end of the night, we were all scared totally out of our minds with that thing. Unfamiliar, kind of weird place, strange messages coming out of a board. My mom tells me that she watched some of the kids organize it and set it up to scare the rest us. I kind of want to believe that, but...I don't know.

I don't really know what to believe about it. It's certainly not something I really ever use now.

One of my friends when I lived in Kentucky got one for his birthday. We took it out, kneeled around it, and all touched the triangle thingy. And nothing happened. So we got bored, and let it alone. I've never messed with one since then.

That said, I've heard about some pretty creepy stuff happening with them, and I'm more inclined to believe some of that stuff now than I used to be. I think I'd want to look into it a bit more before trying one again.

I respect your stories and experiences....but aren't Ouija Boards manufactured by Parker Brothers?? I would tend to be skeptical of the mystical powers of something made by the same people who brought us Monopoly and Bonkers.

However, if you believe, it's certainly not my place to tell you otherwise.

heh I apreciate your honesty and respect. Parker Brothers or any other brand can make tools... what the tools produce is a whole other ball game.

imagine if Parker Brother created a shotgun. Sure, it's brought to us by people who make toys, but that gun can still kill you in a heartbeat.

Ouija has been around far, far, far before PB.

the biggest problem, naturally, is people making it move - even if subconsciencely, which i believe is easy enough to do.

as for being young, sure. i think anything at all of such... dabbling... should be done by people who know of such and have done research and who is generally knowledgable about such things.

it's like a sharp knife or a box of matches. you know the kiddies shouldn't play with such things, but good luck making them take your advice.

Interesting comparison.

There are many, many stories and many, many experiences and even the most cynical people can't explain all of them!!!

Let's be careful out there!!!

Dude, have you ever seen the Exorcist (which is based on a true story). That girl opened herself upto demonic influence by using the board.

IMO, the board isn't what is evil, it's trusting your soul to something that wants to destroy you. This is also true in witchcraft and devil-worshipping. It opens you up to a whole bunch of shit.

Don't take this like I am preaching at you, but you gotta be careful with those types of things. They are very real.

Not something you can really talk people out of. But for its worth, its nonsense.

What sort of people use oija boards? The young and those who believe in the spiritual world moving a piece of plastic. Is it any wonder that thousands of stories snowball around all over the place.
Most people with common sense won't buy one and when they do - and find that nothing happens - their stories are rarely passed around at camp fires: Hey did you hear about Tim, he bought a ouija board and spent three hours with it! What happened? His coffee went cold.

Think about the logic guys. There is a spiritual world filled with the spirits of billions of souls (a surprising proportion of which seem to have names beginning with Z!) and they have to sit around all day/century for people to holds hands over a converted monopoly board before they can do anything useful. And when they do finally get the chance to contact the mortal relam they have some random conversation and give scary mesages to kids. Hmmm.

Sorry to kill the dream guys. But don't worry, the thing about David Copperfield flying - that's true.

Once I used a Ouiji board and was able to communicate with dead relatives. It was so spooky. They said things no one else could have known.

Not really, but some people will believe anything, so it was worth a shot. What was it P.T. Barnum said. Theres a sucker born every minute. When I was young we used to play with a Ouiji board, and the only way it did anything was when one of us kids pushed it where we wanted it to go. But maybe that was because we didn't really believe it was going to work anyway.

I tend to put them on the same level as the pet physic, the telephone physic, and that crossover dude who talks to dead relatives and, Oh yeah... whats her name? Lady Cleo.

They may be fun, but in the end they are a "toys r us item". Play with them if you like, but you won't convince me that little thing is moving around on its own volition. Remember it only takes one of the people using it to move it intentionally and insist they didn't to fool you.

I was raised in a household with a strict Catholic mother (and still am, she doesn't seem to realize I'm no longer in elementary school) who told me that it's a tool that demons can use to possess me. My Sunday Schol teacher warned me of the same thing. I don't really think that I'll become possessed if I use it, in fact I have grown to reject most of what I was taught about religion, but if it can contcact the spirit world, what's to stop an evil spirit from getting to it before whoever I'm trying to talk to does? I might try it sometime, but I'm not in a rush to do it.

My view on Ouija Boards is kind of mixed... I don't think you can go out and buy a Ouija board and contact the dead spirt of your old Grandmother's pet dog, or something like that, then have them freak your friends out. Something that mass produced this in this moden day, without better terms, magical in anyway. Items of magical/spirtiual use is useally made personally, or made by someone as a gift... in wiccan and druidist religions, if the item is made from the earth, it has a higher magical connection with the earth. But a Parker Brothers Ouija board isn't... now a board made in the 1900's or pre, something handmade, not as a gag gift but as a real item used to contact spirts... with something decated to be used in any way magical or spirtiual can have weird effects from being used improperly. I'm not religious in any way, but I respect the religions deep rooted in magic, magick, or rituals... not cults, but old religions that have long histories of spirtality and rituals.
I don't beleive the stories friends tell, they are all passed around so much most of the orginal story is "she said, he said" shit. Tho, if I got to float around as a spirt, I'd drop in on teenages using a Ouija board and scare the shit of them . But that's just me. The mind can do alot of things that we don't know about, but it's really the person sitting beside you moving the little triangle.

I'm a believer and usually find that most people who think they are a crock are those who've never successfully had their hands on one!

So maybe the questions should be, "To those of you have successfully used a Ouiji board ... what are your thoughts?"

I'd also like to know, those of you who have successfully used a Ouiji board, were you non-believers before using one? What was your experience?

I'll never forget when I was about seven or so, as I was staying at my friend's house when his mom came downstairs with a Ouija board she had just found in the closet. The thing looked pretty old and, from a guess, hadn't been used in quite a while. Anyway, we started playing it and it was going rather uneventfully; That is, until my friend's mom asked some question (I don't quite remember what she asked) only to receive the response "Fuck you, bitch". She was so mad that she packed up the board and threw it away. Granted, she could have just been messing with us but I've never bothered with a Ouija board again.
