Teacher hiding something?

Okay, I don't know where else to put this, so...

I work closely with this one guy, my college Rhetoric teacher. He's also the advisor for some of the clubs that I'm in.

First, he says he owns his own business in the copmuter industry. I Googled it, but nothing came up. In fact, a business with the same name appeared, but was not owned by him or in a location anywhere near us.

Second, I just returned from a business trip with him. He paid for everything on his credit tab, so that the school would pay him back. I notied one day that he was not signing his name. I mean, the name that he was putting down was not his. This means that
a) he has a fake credit card
b) the credit card that he was using was not his
c) the name that we know him by is not his real name

I've also realized that he knows little, if anything, about the business that he claims that he's in. He's supposedly an expert, but exhibits only basic knowledge.

Finally, I know he's worked for the government before. Possible Witness protection? Government protection? Spy?

What do you guys think?

It's a conspiracy to steal pop tarts.

Slims 08-12-2003 08:21 PM

Um, if he were in witness protection, or if he had been given a 'new' identity for whatever reason, he would have credit cards, etc. to back it up.

I would call the credit card company and ask about whatever name was on the card.

hmm interesting, dunno wouldnt worry much about it

bernadette 08-12-2003 10:54 PM

why did you take a trip with your shifty teacher? some educational purpose? that is eh kinda weird.

how can you believe anything he's told you?

be careful.

muckluck 08-13-2003 10:15 AM

Wow. I'd watch your back next to him. Might be working for the goverment.

I'm thinking con-man. You've seen "Catch Me If You Can"? There are really people like that out there, living lifestyles built on mazes of lies so complex they lose themselves in them. sk

Yeah, I'd have to agree. A g-man would probably have a better cover.

GakFace 08-13-2003 06:04 PM

Yeah i'd be careful. If it were governmental, I'd figure he'd be more knowledgable, and at the VERY least he'd have credit cards to match his name... then again you might wanna look at his driver's license sometime. If it matches the name you know him as, I'd be quiet and watch your back... but if it matches the credit cards, then you could always bring it up.

Eitherway, becareful, don't want to see you get caught in the middle of anything.

Kind of reminds me of a con artist I knew. He would always put things under other peoples' names and tried to sucker them into taking out loans, had a bunch of companies sitting around that didn't really do anything except have some credit cards and get money for providing bogus "consulting" services to companies that he partly owned, stuff like that. I think most of the scams/lies he came up with were to try and cover up previous ones, until it turned into a huge mess.

I despise that asshole but I must say he was damn good at what he did. The best part was how he always hung out at restaurants and made friends with everybody there, stuff like that. That was the trick to being "successful", if you can call it that.

Are you sure it wasn't his name he signed? I mean, you could possibly be just over thinking the situation. He might just sign funky? Or maybe he goes by Rick, but hes full name is Rickardo? Or his real name is Dick and hes embarassed about it so he goes by Steve? Anywho, he could be full of BS on the company...Also remember that google doesn't pick up nearly everything, and its the biggest search engy out there.

TM875 08-15-2003 07:11 PM

No...I know the signature that he usually uses (is on memos and such), and what he signed wasn't it. In fact, I noticed that, once, he started to sign the name that we know him by, then stopped, realized it was wrong, and crossed it out and started over. Weird...

Devilchild 08-16-2003 12:44 PM

hes probably just a liar, a con artist trying to be somebody hes not, stay clear of them types, they wont help you.

hotzot 08-16-2003 08:58 PM

all good Rhetoric college teachers are liars. Remember everything he tells you is a lie!
