What is trust?
 

Y'know, it scares me more than anything to think of what people take for granted. I'm not going to get on a high horse or start working the airpump to my ego by saying I know everything or what-have-you...

but I am just worried that people don't realize, especially in the states (where I am), how dangerous it is for us to turn off our brains and allow our government complete control over so much of our lives, just because we are worried about attacks from the outside.... WHAT ABOUT ATTACKS FROM THE INSIDE?

Realize that while we are telling the world that Saddam doesn't deserve to have / stockpile nuclear weapons or any other WMDs, we have tons and it is OK because we are the global peace keepers. Well one day, if we don't keep tabs on it, the weapons that our government owns will turn around, and point right at its citizens, and we will be at war with a tyrannical dictatorship on our own soil.

As long as the US doesn't change it's attitude towards the rest of the world and the middle east in particular, it will be threatened. Simply because it's attitude is threatening to 'them'.

But more importantly, you have to wonder to what extent the war and the terrorist threats are being used as an opportunity to undermine civil rights, to create a totalitarian state...

trusting the government to tell you what you need to know is like trusting the neighborhood thug with your lunch money.

Not much I can do about it except vote and express opinion. Beyond that I have no influence so I just go with the flow as long as my life continues on the same path.

i think that going to take my childern in a war that there is no point in but becaus we got nukes there going blow ever thing other then something that says made in america those things well be spared

somethings need to be kept secret to avoid mass hysteria and the goverment knows that but its also pretty obvious that they take advantage of this to control the public. Like the goverment telling us that terrorist are going to try to hijack more planes, its pretty obvious from the news that anyone trying to do anything illigal gets jumped by everyone on the plane

The government keping stuff about the war and Iraq from us is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm more worried about other things they haven't told us about... like why the gov't had Kennedy and King killed... there are many things that the gov't keeps fom us and I agree that there should be some things left out so as not to cause mass hysteria but come on, there are things they don't tell us that we need to know....

Pretty soon they will be able to regualte our movements through micro chips surgically placed in our skin...

Not an American, but I don't trust the US Goverment and I certainly don't trust my own (Australian). Considering the stuff that they get away with right before everyone's eyes ("Children Overboard" scandal, frex), I shudder to think what they do behind closed doors.

Sure, there are things that probably shouldn't be public knowledge. But I think such is outweighed by things that we should know, but certain forces make sure we don't.
