Money (cash) being traced

This is a very interesting article

http://www.prisonplanet.com/022904rfidtagsexplode.html

Apparently new bills have some sort of "chip" inside that allows your cash to be traced wherever it is...

Is the government allowed to do this???

Or is this all BS?

If its from prisonplanet its most likely bullshit, but one thing that does worry me in the long run, is as we become a cashless society, tracking someone will be quite easy and with a flip of the switch the government could freeze all your assets and prevent you from making money in any way. Imagine when you transfer funds directly, even in a friendly bet, now remove that access from someone. They would be unable to purchase or work any job.

so what, all it does is help to fight counterfitting, the bill is not tied to you, only to the points where it is scanned.

Why not? They print it.
I know of no provision that specifically spells out what money can, or cannot, be or contain. Technically, I suppose, they could attach a monetary value to pig snouts.

That...would be my guess.

But, who knows? I've heard of whackier shit.

Yeah but it could be scanned as it leaves the bank teller who is accessing your account. Or when you deposit a large amount of money, they can see you you got it from. It can be scanned when you use a self-checkout at the store to trace what you buy. Yeah, unless the government has some sort of AI computer system, it would be way too hard to do anything useful with this information.

They can do this with credit cards much easier. And I would be more afraid if they stopped producing money and went to the all electronic version of money. Even though I volunterily do that currently.

This is a good point to make because if you run a cash business, they could see everything you earn, not just what you declare. I know its illegal to NOT declare what you earn, but everyone does it to some extent.

I wouldn't want to sell cars on the side as a hobby then find a huge tax bill on my doorstep one day...

Perhaps a guy who sells pot gets busted with lots of cash - some might be traced to you (if you like that thing)
