Just got exposed to Phish...
Hi all. I'm 35 and try to get myself exposed to as much music as possible. While Phish was big I was stationed in Japan while in the USAF. So I kind of missed them. Within a period of an hour I'm a total Phish fan. They are kind of like a melting pot of Zappa, Santana, and the Greatful Dead. Fuckin' awesome. I just wanted to toss that out there, check 'em out.

Phish rock(ed|s).
I can't decide if Picture of Nectar or Junta is my favorite album. And their live stuff was great. I regret very much that I never went to the effort of getting myself to a Phish show. I had the opportunity a couple times and never took it. |

I'm going to go against the trend started here. I can't stand Phish. Yeah I had the displeasure of seeing them live. Trey is a talented musician but I couldn't stand the band. TBH the only time I enjoyed Trey was when he was at Bonnaroo with Dave Matthews.

Remember the thread about John Lennon where the thread starter said "no one can say anything bad about John Lennon, only good things."
While it wasn't specifically stated, I thought that the idea about this thread would be to talk about the good things about Phish. Why the need to 'go against the grain' as you say? If you can't say something nice, then don't say it, right??? For my part I love PHISH. I only have one album "Billy Breathes" and while I've sampled bits and pieces of their other albums, I like this one the best. They have a great sound and a great energy...

If you've got a highspeed connection, you should be able to find a ton of free and legal bittorrent downloads of Phish shows here:
http://bt.etree.org/index.php?cat=5 My favorite years are probably '92 to '94, but there's plenty of good shows to find from '91 all the way through to 2000. I got exposed to them a little at the beginning of my Freshman year at college in Fall of '92 and got hooked once my Freshman roommate's taped copy of Picture of Nectar fell into my possession later that school year (and I still hate myself to this day for not managing to catch their classic shows on 2/20 & 21 of '93 at the Roxy in Atlanta since I was at school up in Athens at UGA not very far away and had already started getting hooked). Finally managed to see my first show on 6/30/94, four days shy of my 20th birthday and managed to see only about 25 more. If I could do it over, I would've found my way to plenty more. (I at least got to see Big Cypress and the Halloween '96 "Remain in Light" show at the Omni in Atlanta).
