yo, over here
<===== The new SYL kicks arse. I wish I could have saw them with Napalm Death and Arch Enemy a while ago but I had class that night, meh By the way, Katatonia's "Viva Emptiness" is the best album of 2003 so far I think. This album has it all - atmosphere, melody, crunchy riffs. If you like metal at all do yourself a favor and buy/download it ASAP. I'm digging the new Opeth - it's different, that's for sure, not particualry metal, but cool anyways. "Blackwater Park" is still their best IMO. |

I just saw Spungfoo mention Arch Enemy. What a great band... I honestly think that they may be the best thing going in true metal right about now.
I also like: SYL Meshuggah Opeth In Flames Napalm Death Slayer (God Hates Us All proved that they have all the intensity they ever did and then some) Dimmu Borgir Hatebreed (this might seem an out-of-place addition but I have always considered them to be metal) Old Man's Child ......good God, there are so many more to name... it would take me way too long to really get into it so I think I'll just leave it at what's there now.

no, swedish metal rapes fear factory then feeds their remains to the crowd
Nothing can beat the melodies and riffs from sweden, nothing but Tallica....but Hetfield is the riff god, often barely working if working at all on his riffs

I'm new to the hardcore metal scene. I've always been a big Pantera fan and have been led into some of this the last year or so. I "discovered" Hatebreed and loved it. then htat led to Sworn Enemy and so on.
Some of my favs not already mentioned: Killswitch Engage Shadows Fall Superjoint Ritual Sworn Enemy Lamb Of God Nullset Some classic metal favorites: Pantera Cannibal Corpse Demented Ted Morbid Angel And just recently I found some Shai Hulud stuff and like it. And of course I'm downloading alot of the bands metnioned in this post that I've herad of before, but am not really familiar with. |

I'm not a real huge fan of most "real" metal but Fear Factory are probably my favourite band. Killswitch Engage is real good too.... any other metal I listen to isn't that heavy.

Yes, all good, all good. Metal is my favourite genre probably.
Some good bands mentioned here, fear factory are great but digimortal was a direction i didn't want to see them take. Iron Maiden are classic! White Zombie are distinct! Celtic Frost are fantastic, one of the forerunners of the black/death metal genre. Amorphis have some fantastic creativity going for them. Acid Bath are an amazing band i have got into recently, go from death metal to folk songs the next, and make it sound good. Heard only a bit from Kovenant, but i really like their "Jihad" song. Obituary are good solid death metal. And of course, Devin Townsend and his assorted projects. And Mike Patton and his assorted projects!
