Just an off-hand guess, I'm going to go with Willy Nelson.. I know he did some song writing before he landed his own contract and it seems like about the right time.

Okay.. hmm, lessee.
The Foo Fighters song is thought by a great many people to be Dave's tribute to Kurt Cobain. Mr. Grohl has, however, revealed the truth of the matter in interviews. Who is the song about? EDIT - Whoops.. this is why early morning posting is bad. The song is question is My Hero.

No.
I'm probably not going to be around tomorrow, so I'll post the answer and give the next question as a toss-up. It's actually a trick question. Grohl credits the song as being a tribute to a variety of sources; his father is one, Cobain is another; it's not actually about any one specific person, but rather a whole host of people who have served as guide or inspiration to him. EDIT - Nobody has a question? What is this? I'm still leaving this as a toss-up. Somebody ask something.

In the interest of keeping things moving...
Echo and the Bunnymen were pretty big in the punk scene of the late seventies and early eighties. They're still around today, even though we don't hear all that much about them. It's a three piece band, but none of the band members are named or go by Echo. So just who is Echo?

Echo was that fucking drum machine, yes. The band thought it'd be 'punk' to give a machine top billing.
You're up.

Alright, let's here's a nice easy one to (hopefully) get things moving.
Nirvana's album Nevermind is actually named after a prior album, produced by another group. Kurt liked the group and liked the name, so he named his album Nevermind in tribute. What was the group and album?

I refuse to believe that nobody knows the answer to this.
The album in question is Nevermind the Bollocks. The group is the Sex Pistols. Eh. Another toss-up. Let's see if anyone's interested in continuing this thread.

Hopefully this will get a response - One of the best selling albums of all times, Michael Jackson's "Thriller" almost wasn't released because of some occult themes that went against the church teachings that Jackson and his siblings were raised with. He quit that church in 1987. Which denomination was Mr. Never-Proven-In-Court?

The shooter was his father.
What was the name of the nearby town where the plane carrying Ritchie Vallens, the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly crashed? Bonus points if you can name the person that gave up their seat to the Big Bopper (part of Buddy's backing band and a star later in his own right). Last edited by The_Jazz; 02-07-2006 at 01:11 PM.. |

Good to see some new blood in here. I'm glad to see this thread moving again.
I'll hold up answering the current question to keep the current players active.

Seeing no one else is stepping in, the town is Mason City, Iowa. They had just left a performance in Clear Lake, Iowa.
The band member who gave up his seat was Waylon Jennings. Speaking of Waylon, he was in a band "The Highwaymen" Who were the other country superstar members of that group?

I'll give this a bump.
What famed group in 1967-68 took Warner Bros. records to court and made it so that the copyright holders of songs NOT the record companies were able to decide where the songs were published? In other words If K-Tel wanted to do a collage of hits the song writer and band (or holder of the intellectual copyright) had the right to say "OK" and collect money.... not the record companies.

Here is one that you should be ashamed for knowing without doing research: Vanilla Fudge drummer Carmine Appice was a member of what one-and-done hair metal band in the late 80's?
