DangerDoom - The Mouse and the Mask

Anyone else pick this album up recently? All I can say is wow, what a breath of fresh air this album is. This is one of the dopest albums I've heard of all time, the beats, the rhymes - all dope. If you're into MF Doom or Dangermouse I suggest you pick this album up ASAP.

Once again, for those of us who have no idea what the OP is talking about...

...allmusic.com says:
Quote:
Another fantastic collaboration in the partner-heavy rap underground, Danger Doom brought together producer Danger Mouse (Gorillaz, plus his own heavily publicized production career) with rapper MF Doom (owner of a half-dozen aliases, all with full-length releases). The album The Mouse and the Mask found their talents meshing much better than seemed possible from the awkward billing. The Danger Doom project actually coalesced 18 months prior to the album's release, when the two agreed to begin working together via mail, with help on vocals from the cartoon characters of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim shows. The long gestation period proved worthwhile when the album finally appeared on Epitaph in October 2005.
I heard the Danger Mouse Grey Album, but it wasn't my thing. I also don't watch Adult Swim. So, it doesn't sound like I would find this album to be interesting either.

But please, everyone, don't just preach to the choir: try to sell the album/artist to the people who haven't heard about it.

i think adult swim kind of sunk the album. the skits become irritating and take away from the album as a whole. and talib kwali ruins the best horn loop in the world, funky fanfare from the kpm library, by once again telling us how real he keeps it. other than that, the album is pretty good. it is better than the grey album, not quite as good as demon days.

MF DOOM is the best hip-hop artist producing music today. There can be no debate over this, if you think someone is making better hip-hop, you are wrong. He excels in both lyricism, production, and all-around style. DOOM makes this album. Danger Mouse has some very nice beats (The trumpet (?) sample in Vats of Urine is especially sick), but only DOOM has the creativity and skill able to make hip-hop songs about Adult Swim cartoon characters sound nice. I agree that some of the skits detract from the album (and I often skip them) but the surrounding music is still amazing.

I wasn't very familiar with Doom or Danger Mouse before I heard this album (I know, I know). I usually don't listen to much rap, and when I do it's a select few, but the commercials on Adult Swim caught my attention as I love most of AS.

Anyway, I have to say this album really, really impressed me! I've been listening to it for about a month or so now, but I really need to go pick it up in stores as soon as I have the cash to do so. Doom's voice just sounds so smooth on the songs, and the guest appearances are all great!

I guess I'm the only one here (so far anyway) that thinks the skits are funny. The one with Brak is easily my favorite (My name is Brak and that's a fact, I got a mom and a dad and they are out back...), but I also like how Master Shake comes in at the end of alot of songs.

i still need to pick up this album but will do it as soon as i get the chance. i've been a fan of MF Doom ever since I saw the first talks of this album a few months ago on forums. Doomsday is an amazing album. Doom's flow is incredible.

I didnt know he went by a bunch of other aliases and had other releases though...what are his other aliases?

King Gheedorah, where he's doing mainly production
Metal Fingers, which are instrumental albums
Viktor Vaughn, DOOM over other people's beats
Madvillian, DOOM and Madlib

If i'm not mistaken, he was also in KMD as well, back in his early days. Black Bastards is a pretty sweet album.

EDIT: So maybe i'm mistaken.... I could swear this was true but I guess I am wrong according to allmusic. Check the album out anyways!

RE-EDIT: Upon further searching, I think he was in/part of KMD. He went by the name Zevlove or something like that at the time. Anyways, the album is old and hot, and was recently put back into print. Check it out.

He was in KMD, as Zev Love X. But I don't really consider that as an "MF DOOM" album, because his flow then was almost totally different. One of the things about DOOM now is that his flow is almost always the same, yet can still sound nice over a multitude of beats.

And yes, Black Bastards is a great album (and it's title and cover got KMD booted off their label, which was a big part of creating the DOOM persona). I've heard that their first album Mr. Hood is also good, but I've yet to hear it since it's out of print and very hard to find (I've heard of CD's e-baying for around $100). They also have a KMD greatest hits album, but since around half the songs on it are also on Black Bastards, and I'll probably come upon some time where I have more money than sense and pick up Mr. Hood, i've yet to get the greatest hits album.

mr hood actually has some funny skits. they get samples of what sounds like english phrases for people learning the language (the man sampled is called "mr hood") and interact with people at a party, etc. the music is kinda cool, but fairly straightforward.

definitely check out all mf doom stuff. danger doom is only a "pretty good" mf doom project.

to add to the list, he was done some producing for MF Grimm as well. and the fourtet remixes of madvillian...very good.

Doom has his moments, but when it comes to flow he isn't that great. I mean, he flows about as well as Colin Quinn. If you want better flow listen to Sage Francis, Deltron or go mainstream with Dre and crew on 2001. And if you have heard Doom (try to) sing on 'Rainbows', then you have suffered as much as I have.
I think Doom is a rapper who has a very distinctive style and sound, but needs very solid beats to back him up - he is too chunky to get away on his own.
That being said, his work with both Mad Lib/Quasimoto and Rjd2 is a great listen and I am now very curious to hear his stuff with Dangermouse (I really like the Grey Album).

I'm sorry, but I couldn't disagree more strongly. Sage is nice, but he doesn't have DOOM's quality. Same goes for Del. But I could see liking the style of either more than DOOM. But 2001? That album's lyrics were pure garbage. Seriously, I was sad to see such genuinely nice production trashed by such shoddy mic work. I remember trading that album to my friend for the instrumental, which is much better.

"I'm sorry, but I couldn't agree more strongly" did you mean to say 'disagree'?
Sure, there is nothing too clever being said on 2001, but i was referencing the flow, which is done pretty well.
And speaking of instrumentals, I just picked up the instrumentals to Deltron 3030, fantastic stuff.

Yeah, I wanted to say disagree. I was heading to work, and my fingers outpaced my thoughts. And it's not even the lack of cleverness, 2001 had horrible rhyming. Were the MC's better, it could've been better than The Chronic. But the lackluster flows destroyed that album.
