Tear me apart, leave my heart on the road, suck my soul up, and abandon me.

I wanted to at least reach tilted before I posted in music.

This is why; music tears me up, baby. A song can send me off the deep end. A hotdog makes Patty Duke lose control, the right song sends me off on a trip to fight my inner being.

So, yeah, the right song kicks pork byproduct ass.

Give it to me. Tell me the song that kills you. Tell me that song that you'll pull the trigger to. Tell me that song that keeps you up at night, pacing the floor like an obsessed bear. Give it to me, both barrels. I know.

(currently listening to Melancholy Polly)

Crestfallen, by the Pumpkins, makes me cry. Hits a vein, I suppose.

Both of my songs are from musicals. "Meadowlark", from The Baker's Wife, and "Diary of a Homecoming Queen", from Is There Life After High School?. I have no idea why, the songs don't speak to my life or desires at all, but they hit me hard.

So In Love by Cole Porter...but only when done right. Ditto for I Loves You Porgy by Gershwin.

Johnny Cash- Roberta Flack cover, "The first time I ever saw your face" off his last record, "American IV The Man Comes Around."

Johnny's old and broken. His voice is going and it just makes me sad. Not to long after he made it, he passed away.

"Jonathan David" by Belle & Sebastian. Don't think I've have any other song resonate so well and so depressingly with me.

Bob Dylan - Desolation Row. It's just an unfuckin' believably epic 11 minute song. The lyrics are second to none.

One of my top songs would be - "You Look So Fine" by Garbage. Despite the name, it's not a happy song.

the only song that has ever had that effect on my is "On Fire" by switchfoot...but it only works at the right times. "And so it Goes" by Billy Joel came close.
but these arent my favorite songs, its just that music doesn't usually make me sad.

I had the reaction to a song that wouldn't typically fit the bill...

Coming back from a trip home, which sounds strange anyways, I'm ping ponging between my wife and our new home and my old job, 400 miles apart, living with a bunch of people I don't know in their house-their rules. The unplugged version of "End Of The World As We Know It (and I feel fine)" came on the radio.

The regular version has been a favorite since college. This is one of a very few songs I can listen to at anytime. I'd have this played at my funeral. I always sing along, doing Peter Buck's harmony. At the end, there's the line, "It's time I had some time alone." I was in the car, 2am, on an empty four lane, going 70mph, belting it out, with tears.

Warren Zevon's cover of "Back in the Highlife Again"; you can hear him dying.
For reasons unknown, Roger Waters "Home" is always a kick in the gut.
