Flight of the Conchords
For anyone that hasn't heard of these guys yet, they're two guys from New Zealand who play "folk parody". They had a special on HBO (One Night Stand)the other night and I laughed my ass off. Kind of like a New Zealand Tenacious D.
The song "Business Time" is hilarious and the guys really have a subtle sense of humor. I highly recommend them, but it's a wee bit hard to find any info on them. If I find a link for a song sample, I'll post it. Also, after doing a little googling on the band, I discovered that one of the guys, Bret, had a small part in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. He's semi famous in certain LOTR circles, known as the elf Figwit (bonus points if you figure out what Figwit stands for). Anyway, check them out, let me know what you think.

"New Zealand's 4th most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo." How can you pass up a byline like that? I just found a fanpage with some songs on it: What the Folk!. I'll have to check it out; I loved the Foremen, which was also folk parody.

Folk the World is a pretty cool album. "A kiss is not a contract, but it's very nice". Bret's other band is pretty cool too, not a comedy group, but musically excellent - The Black Seeds.
And yes, Figwit is one of the most interesting aspects of popular culture, and the impact of the internet, from the last 10 years. |
