Looking for some good Rave/techno music
 

I know its easy to find tons of rave/techno music all over the place, but finding good rave/techno music seems to be nearly impossible. I'm not sure what the real difference is between rave music and any other music that is mainly digital in nature, but that's not the point.

I'm looking for something really specific.
I'm looking for songs that have:
-an intro-ish sequence
-a build-up sequence
-a climactic sequence that punches me in the face
-a dramatic outro sequence

In other words, I'm looking for songs with actual structure, not just something that thumps the same beat for forty minuntes, like that Blood Rave from those Blade movies. I've been listening to some samples on http://www.cdnow.com/ and nothing seems to fit the bill. Even songs categorized under "hardcore house" and what not seem to put me to sleep. I don't want to knit sweaters while listening to some techno; I want to get pumped up and work out, or just generally get pumped up.

Here are two examples of what I'm looking for:

2.) This one is a .mod type file. Winamp can play these, so if you got winamp you're all set:

Sadly, these are the only two songs that I know of that fit what I'm looking for. Please recommend more if you know about 'em.

I don't know many *songs* that do this, but I can give you some albums/mixes. Paul Oakenfold specifically.

For the "intro, build up, climax, outro" I HIGHLY recommend "Tranceport" by Paul Oakenfold. Once the album reaches the 25 minute mark you are ready to fucking tear the house down (especially once "Someone" kicks in). Good stuff. If you have a subwoofer, turn it on.

Something that has good structure: The Essential Mix Live at China by Paul Oakenfold. You will dig this big time.

I can't help but recommend some more Paul Oakenfold albums:
Essential Mix from Goa
Essential Mix from London
Essential Mix from Ibiza

Some very good structure in these.

Oakenfold is cool. I can also recommend Juno Reactor, The Prodigy and Shpongle. Pretty kick-ass stuff.

Juno Reactor is very creative and innovative trance. They did much of the music for the second and third Matrix films.

See in particular the following albums:

Juno Reactor -- Bible of Dreams
Juno Reactor -- Shango
Juno Reactor -- Beyond the Infinite
Shpongle -- Tales of the Inexpressible

Basically anything by Juno Reactor and Paul Oakenfold.

Play any Juno Reactor song. :) Nitrogen Part 2 is insane. I hate to do repeats of this thread, but the suggestions are very...qualitarious. Yes, I made up that word.

There's so many genre's that meet the requirements you stated. We have progressive house (which would be most likely to fit the intro's - outro's) and of course DnB. Everything I've heard mentioned so far is pretty much the progessive trance style. I didn't click your links but hey if you like what's been mentioned so far, chances are you won't be into the DnB anyway. (Drum and Bass).

Proggy(progressive) Trance I'd recommend Sasha and Digweed. Two great Dj's who put on amazing shows.

Other Dj's would be Oakenfold, BT, Timo Maas (producer), Hybrid, anything on Bedrock Records(this includes Digweed).

My mind escapes me at the moment but if you want any recommendations for other types of genre's let me know. Who knows you might even like some Big Beat aka dumb music. Big Beat includes Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and such.

I'm not ignoring this thread. My internet was down for a while, but I'm back and currently listening to "The Essential Mix Live at China by Paul Oakenfold" :D

If you want something that's gonna get you pumped, Listen to some Jungle. It's got everything your looking for, It's an aquired taste though.

Max Graham is pretty good, and has some mixes for download of his site
click media, then audio.
I'd suggest listening to di.fm for a while, lots of good streams from them, and some half decent forums as well.

My wife loves techno music. Some of her favorites are Milk Inc, Scooter, Sylver, and Lords of Acid.

My personal suggestions:

Tiesto is good. Jon Bishop also for extremely pounding beats. If you want to go completely jungle/acid jazz sort of crazy, pick up some Amon Tobin.

Holy crap Max Graham is GOD as far as I'm concerned...

I also like Ferry Corsten, Tiesto, Digweed, Sasha, Paul Van Dyk, Oribital, and Prodigy (tho they're a totally different direction)

The Crystal Method- "Vegas" is one of my all time favorite albums ever
Chemical Brothers are good... Basement Jaxx can be good... Gorilliaz are good tho they're a lot more hip-hop inspired.... Les Rhymes Digatales is like Nintendo on crack but he's all crazy and French- good if you're looking for something different. Dirty Vegas is pretty mellow... Jamaraquai (sp?) is a lot more funk inspried, but he's borderline electronica- he's a lot of fun to listen to when you're driving, or at work, good happy music.

It's Shanghai, and yes, it's one of the best. :thumbsup: Oakenfold's other mixes are amazing as well though, namely Goa, Ibiza, and London, all of which I believe I've mentioned already. :)

Sons of a Loop Da Loop Era - 'Far out' - I remember going mental to that back in the day....

I have a CD of Oakenfold live in New York, It's nice. I have another of him in Oslo..That's very nice :D

Neurofunk is your friend. Its a sub-genre of drum n bass and damn good one at that. After listening to some tracks that come out of this genre you'll be amazed by the production skills on show. Everything is obsessively clinical... With every tune you'd swear you were listening to a buildup written by John Newman, and then BAM, suddenly you understand exactly why Neurofunk is renowned for the most grimey basslines, synths, vocals known to music as a whole.

Names to look out for, The Noisia, The Upbeats, Fierce, Teebee, Calyx, Evol Intent, Gridlok

I like DJ Sasha a lot. I've got a couple hour long mixes or something, there's some really nice stuff in there.

I really like to hear vocals in the techno music I listen to. Also, I like harmony and melody in the music as I can't stand music that just has bass thumping.

I would second the Cyrstal Method and Paul Van DYke suggestions. I think the Paul Okenfield suggestion is already clear to you.

You may want to also add Carl Cox to the mix.

Also a little bit diifferent from the selections above is Fantastic Plastic Machine they arnt really techno at all but they do everything that you are asking for from a loungy psycho JApenese pop approach

What you are describing is called Euro-trance or Epic-Trance. The big djs that spin that stuff right now are Armin Van Buuren, Tiesto, Paul Oakenfold, Blank and Jones, Above and Beyond, Matt Darey.
Now the example you gave (Costumed) sounds more like early Progressive Trance which is still pretty popular and is spun by djs like Sandra Collins, Sasha, John Digweed, Christopher Lawrence, Dave Ralph, Perry Oneil, and Paul Van Dyke. I can probably dig up some specific tunes out of my crates that would fit your bill but it might take me some time to post back. Good luck in your search and if you find anything good report it back to us.

Oakenfold's first Essential Mix (Live at Goa) from the early nineties is my current addiction. It sounds different than the late 90's mixes, but in a good way...it's almost like you can tell how Oakenfold's mixes have evolved over the decade. It's one of the only epic trance mixes I can listen to all the way through and never miss a beat. I bet I've listened to it a dozen times in the past week or two. :)

Digitally Imported - addictive electronic music has FREE streaming Trance, vocal trance, weekend live mixes, techno, ambient ...........well you get it.

I write down the naems of songs I like then torrent them.

Also every weekend is streaming mixes from tiesto and the like Trance Around the World, A State of Trance, radio 1.

Its all my gym playlist, some mixes are hours and hours long so that little wheel to fast foward on an ipod is essential.

I'm disappointed that nobody recommended me to this topic. /sadface
