Pink Floyd - Live!

I am going to see floyd tonight, with Roger Waters as well!!! weeeeeee-hawwww

Seriously, I have been waiting for this moment since I was a kid...

Unfortunately I will be pretty far away, but close enough to hear it, and see it on the big screens in Hyde Park...

Oh, an there are gonna be some other bands on as well:

I can't track down what time (EDT) Floyd is performing. None of the websites give a set list for who is performing when...

Have fun, man!

Saw 'em once in the 70's, and it still remains as the best concert of my life.

I was surprised at how good they sounded. Roger's voice sounded like shit on Wish You Were Here, but then doing lead vocal was never his strong suit - why Dave sang most of the melodic songs.

Sounded like Roger or Nick fucked up the beginning of Money. The beat was off a tad.

I was impressed.

However, did you notice how little interaction there was between David and Roger? Roger seemed to be having a ball, Dave was doing his thing, but it seemed like they never even looked at each other

And at the end of the set, Dave was wanting off that stage in a hurry, while Roger was saying "come back - they want to see us hug!" (not a real quote)

Edit: PS from what I saw on the Fark thread, guess I'm lucky I was watching the AOL feed rather than MTV

I was watching MTV. They cut off the end of the last song into their stupid fucking VJs and then to a commercial. In the middle of the last song. GG MTV!

That's why I started watching the AOL feed over MTV... too much talking and commercial and not enough concert.

That was great man....wow....

I noticed the same thing about Roger and Dave. What the hell happened to have such acrimony after 24 years? I mean, I know Roger is an egomaniac and sued PF, etc...but hell...

hmm... now if only Floyd goes back to the studio... records another album that can beat Dark Side of the Moon for longest time on the charts, and go on a global tour... Doubt that's happening, but a man is entitled to dream .

I knew I'd miss them, I left the house at 5:30 and didn't get back in time to see it. Someone I know taped it, so I'm psyched to take a look.....good to hear it was good though.

I think that the AOL site is replaying all the concerts already, so check it out:

http://music.aol.com/live_8_concert/live_now

The set list:

Breathe + Breath Reprise
Money
Wish You Were Here
Comfortably Numb

I was glad that it was more or less just the 4 of them (with one extra guitarist, a sax on money, and one backup singer for Numb) instead of the Gilmour-esque 284 piece stage band. Too bad all these bands were stuck with just a 20 minute time slot. I would rather have seen less bands and longer sets. For example, London could have been an hour each of McCartney, Floyd, Elton John, U2, Coldplay and REM and that would have been great. I didn't need 2 songs each from the Scissor Sisters, The Killers and Joss Stone.

Thanks for the heads up on the replays....the quality of the video is shockingly good.

I happened to catch the ABC concert special, and they had Floyd doing Money. It was great seeing it, but now I can catch the whole thing.

I was super impressed with the webcast quality. Full stereo sound and TV quality video. It's a shame I didn't have the software to record it. AOL must have had some house-sized servers running that webcast knowing that millions would be watching at that level of bandwidth.

I'm with you on that. I don't think U2 would've been able to do the hour. They had a concert they had to go to after Live 8. What was with that Scissors Sister thing? They weren't all that great.

they should have had london on one channel and the hyperactive band switching interrupted by airheads on the other. seems like most of the good performers were in london anyway, and the "live" atmosphere would have been preserved.

sorry i didn't post sooner, just got back in...

They were amazing; it was a special moment indeed. Being in my early 20's, I never had the opportunity to see the "whole" group together, and I was always disappointed to hear Roger would probably not play with Dave again. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to watch them, even it was on the television. I know it will give more substance to the next time I listen to one of their albums.

I finally got around to watching the tape from VH-1 in the US, and join those that were totally impressed by Pink Floyd, together again. After watching, I went back and read the UNCUT magazine from June 2003 about the 30th anniversary of DARK SIDE. The hard feelings running between Roger and both Dave and Richard were laid out for all to see. Yet, even then, there was a glimmer of hope--Nick Mason had reopened a dialogue with Roger, and he was still friendly enough with the other two (not buddy-buddy with Dave, but cordial enough to work together). I've not heard how the reunion took place, but I have a suggestion to make:

Nick Mason for Nobel Peace Prize for 2005.

He may not really deserve it, but when you think about some of the other receipants over the years, he'd be more deserving than some like Jimmy Carter or Arafat.

Start the petition someone, I'll sign it.

Here's a little on how it came to be

Quote:
Pink Floyd reunion proves that pigs can fly
(Filed: 30/06/2005)

Pink Floyd's ironical drummer tells Robert Sandall how the group's reunion came about

Roger Waters, whose first phone call to Dave Gilmour in over 20 years sealed the Live8 deal, has said nothing. Gilmour has muttered off-the-record that this isn't a proper reunion and that he's more interested in his forthcoming solo album. Rick Wright, the quiet one, has kept quiet. Which leaves Nick Mason, the group's tirelessly ironical drummer and the only Floyder to speak publicly about their historic rapprochement.

Reunited: Pink Floyd
Speaking to me at the end of last week, Mason cheerfully admitted that the band hadn't actually sat down together yet to decide which three songs to play or how to play them - "It's sort of assumed that we'll all remember how they go" - but was optimistic that some kind of rehearsal would take place. Either that or they would have to issue a statement: "Due to commitments, the Pink Floyd will be rehearsing after the show."

Mason confirmed that the truce had been brokered by Geldof, partly to ramp up interest in Live8 in the States, where Pink Floyd are considerably more popular than poor African countries. "Plus I think Bob wanted an addition to what he did last time. He wanted a novelty act basically. It was a toss up between us and the Spice Girls. Not sure if we lost or won." Briefly assuming a straight face, Mason did say that "At this point it's nice to be remembered not just for a bunch of jolly tunes, but for something that might make a real difference to the world."

He also commented that Bob Geldof had been "fabulously persuasive" and that his relationship with Roger Waters - whom he first met when he starred as Pink in Alan Parker's film of The Wall in 1982 - had been crucial. "Roger and Bob have enormous respect for each other, The two of them together are a bit like Hitler and Stalin with a better sense of humour, and in Bob's case, worse hair."

More importantly Mason said he thought the real spur to the Floyd's temporary resurrection was their desire to put the ghost of Live Aid to rest. With legal proceedings just begun in the summer of 1985 to establish who owned the rights to the name, Pink Floyd, only Gilmour turned up for Geldof's first African benefit, playing guitar for Bryan Ferry. " I felt, and I think we all felt, that it was a shame we hadn't played Live Aid," Mason said.

Interesting article. Somebody told me a rumor that Pink Floyd, in this incarnation, had been rehearsing for six months now, and it was just coincidental that Live8 came up - and provided a great opportunity to re-introduce themselves to the world. This article definitely proves otherwise, although I need to investigate this rumor more.

I wouldn't be surprised if a world tour was announced within a few weeks. They can charge $300 per ticket - easily.

This performance totally blew me away! I hadn't listened to Floyd for months and didn't actually get a chance to watch the show until today(thank God i finally did.) "Speak to Me/Breathe" got me excited, "Money" kept it up, and then "Wish You Were Here" started. It's not too often that I get emotional over music, but when Gilmour started playing I almost cried. The shots of the band playing interspersed with the crowd eating it up just threw me for a loop. When "Comfortably Numb" finished and the video stopped I sat staring at my screen laughing with the biggest grin on my face
