On free porn - the melody is nice, catchy... I really can't hear the words but it's sounds cool. Nicely done.
I really like Nothing... that one sounds great. I'd love to see the lyrics on it-- it's a touching song... (Said you're leaving kept cutting out on me) And Gone is also wonderful, the recording quality on that is a little better than the others, whoever is singing on that has a really pleasing voice... that one is a standout. Y'all have a lot of talent... I'm not in photos... MORE PLEASE

^ I think it may be my favorite too. I indeed enjoyed the tunes you sent me fly. I've always had a taste for mellow/easy listening singer/songwriter acoustic songs. Good stuff man.

Way to go fly... I can't wait to hear the new recordings... It must be gratifying to see the number of downloads climbing, knowing that people are hearing your your work.
Very cool.

It sounds to me as if you are just learning or just starting to write songs. There is nothing wrong with that. My first suggestion is to write 100 more complete songs before spending money in a studio. By song 99 you will have probably scrapped or altered the songs you have posted. If you are recording them for private purposes then fine, but to send them out, they need work.
There isn't much confidence with the players involved. At least it sounds that way to me. It isn't that your songs are terrible, but if Burton Cummings or Blue Rodeo got ahold of them as they are, even as rough as they are, you would hear the confidence and energy. Don't hold back, let er rip. Even acoustically you can make interesting in roads to embellish your songs. Dynamics, tempo changes, differing texture, using chord inversions during verses or the chorus, using stops and pauses with the instrumentation etc. It is your canvas, make it something. The last song had the most potential. Somewhat Framptonesque. The second one (I think) sounded like Nirvana. The hardest thing for people writing and playing music is to create an identity. Hence this is where the 100 songs come into play. I'm not judging your songs per se, because that is subjective, but by living and breathing those songs, and your identity and style will show through. Hope I don't get ripped to shreds by you or anyone else. I earn my living as a musician and am just giving some suggestions of my initial reaction so to maybe help the process you are involved in. Let's hear some more.

thanks OFKU0.....these were tunes that we each seperatly brought to the table.
the versions you hear here are the 2nd time the three of us have played together, although i have been playing with the singer for about 8 years now. (that sorta didn't sound right) anyways... we have roughly 5 different versions of each song we have on disc....tempo changes, different instruments, each of us trading up on what instrument to play,yadda,yadda........it's to the point now where the final tempo for each tune needs to be agreed on and a completed structured version ie:verse/chorus/verse/chorus. as mentioned before......these are tracks in the making,we just wanted to get some feedback on them.once we dial in each one more clearly,we'll be updating the song list. thanks for your input man....every little bit helps. and thanx for listenin' |

Here's a nugget someone told me about 20 years ago that has everything to do with having the utmost confidence in what you play, be it your music or someone elses. I won't tell you who told me this because you'll either think it is bullshit or that I'm some caddy name dropper. It doesn't matter if you play to 20,000 or 20 people, rehearsing or just jamming, or if you are sitting in your home alone practising. ALWAYS play to the best of your ability and make it sound as good as it can sound. What happens when you adopt this mentality is that your listening to the overall sound either alone or with others becomes acutely trained to the point where inadequacies stand out like a sore thumb on your part or others. You will become a tighter player, a more professional sounding player and others, if they are listening will fed off of that also, making everything sound better. Confidence goes way up if things always sound good. And the interesting thing too is that once you start that, you can't stop it. It becomes you. If you already know that then that's great. If I didn't get that advice when I did, who knows, I could be driving a cab now or something other than what I am doing. Hope it helps you or anyone else reading this.

Hi, flyman.
I was listening to your songs this morning and I thought they reminded me of a couple of songs on this album: Ocean Colour Scene - Moseley Sholes One of my all time favourite albums of all time. I'm wondering if you've heard it.. or if you haven't maybe you could check it out and tell me what you think. |
