Genre?
My most favorite type of music are these types of songs, what kind of genre would you lump all of these type of songs together as? Some of them are 'slow' songs from a band that typically plays rock or faster music (ie Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Audioslave, Blink 182)
Audioslave - I am the highway Blink 182 - I Miss You Counting Crows - A Long December Coldplay - Yellow David Gray - Babylon Foo Fighters - Time Like These (acoustic version) Cary Brothers - Blue Eyes (Garden State soundtrack) Iron and Wine - Such Great Heights (Garden State again) Hoobastank - The Reason Incubus - I Miss You Jimmy Eat World - Hear You Me Jimmy Eat World - my Sundown Live - Turn My Head Nirvana - all their slower songs, especially acoustic Silverchair - Cemetary Sum 41 - Slippin' Away The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work The Verve - Sonnet |
Mostly triple A : Adult Album Alternative
A little Hot AC : "hot" Adult Contemporary WIth the exception of Blink 182 |
I'd Say Alternative Rock/New Rock.. definately www.edge.ca music..
thats the station i listen too :) |
poppunk/commercial indie rock.
(not that it helped) |
If you look at the pop music continuum, rock (indie, alt, punk, prog - what have you) has always figured in it. I would say that rock/pop ballads would cover this genre. it isn't a new phenomenon.
I'm learning to play some '70's rock now, and through my look at this era, have discovered that bands like KISS (Beth) Alice Cooper (Only Women Bleed), Kansas (Dust In the Wind) plus the ultimate '80's - '90's example: GNR's November Rain or Patience and even now bands like Finger 11's One Thing are doing it. I think bands like to demonstrate their balladeering ability, to showcase their lyricism or sensitivity. I called this the 'Beth Syndrome'. |
genre is to music as ornithology is to birds.
to paraphrase anselm hollo. |
I don't like to categorize music in too much detail. Rock is rock to me, whatever the sub-genre.
