Anyone knows this Metallica song?

Yesterday i heard a Metallica song called sanitarium. I'am quite a Metallica fan but never heard this one before.
Does anyone know from wich album this song is?

Jadey 02-22-2005 11:23 AM

Aww, c'mon man! What kind of Metfan are you if you haven't heard of Master Of Puppets! Welcome Home (Sanitarium) is song 4 on the M of P. It was their third album and came out in the mid 80's. It was the first album produced in conjunction with Fleming Rasmussen and is considered by many, including me, to be their best album. If you really are a Metallica fan and have not heard this album you are missing out! Go get it! Buy it! Steal It! Whatever!

"Battery"
"Orion"
"Damage, Inc"
"Master of Puppets"
"The Thing That Should Not Be" based on Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos!

Hurry and get it!

Dbass 02-22-2005 11:26 AM

Also, it's a must to check out Apocalyptica's "Plays Metallica by 4 Cellos" They do a fantastic cover of Sanitarium, Master of Puppets, and 6 other awesome Metallica songs. It really puts a whole different layer on the pieces, and they are no less heavy, believe me!

ShaniFaye 02-22-2005 11:30 AM

How can anyone be a metallica fan and NOT know Master of Puppets (IMO the last great album they did)

god I hear that one in my sleep I love it so much

I must admit that the one album I am missing in my Metallica collection is Master of puppets. Sorry to disappoint you guys ;)
But don’t worry, I’ll complete my collection soon.
I’m desperate for my pay check this month.

Just download it. What's the worst that could happen?

tres 02-23-2005 05:33 AM

Metallica is awsome... How could you forget about MOP!!!

Fourtyrulz 02-23-2005 11:06 AM

If you're looking for great Metallica look no further than ...And Justice For All.

The buck stops there man. Flame on!!! :D

supafly 02-25-2005 02:03 AM

I only download music to evaluate it. Since I'am a audiophile I need to get it on CD. MP3 compression is not good enough for me.

d*d 02-25-2005 03:43 AM

yeah you need those frequencies that are inaudible to humans.

Harry Cox 02-25-2005 05:29 PM

It doesn't get any better than Ride The Lightning.

Coppertop 02-25-2005 05:34 PM

Kill Em All is the bestest album. Just look at these kids:

http://user.tninet.se/~bmm117l/metal...emall-back.jpg

RIP Burton.

stbeston 02-27-2005 07:05 PM

amazing picture, that kill 'em all one. i had the tape with their versions of am i evil and blitzkrieg, which is one of my favorite metallica songs even though they didn't write it.
what a great debate, which album is better, mop or ...ajfa. and then somebody throws in a monkey wrench like ride the lightning (has to be joke) and kill 'em all.
...ajfa of course gets minus points because it seems that accidently deleted all bass tracks before releasing the cd. if anyone can hear newsted's bass on that album i'd like some of whatever you just smoked/dropped/etc. during the black out in nyc, i listened to blackened walking home from work across the manhattan bridge, thinking, damn, metallica knew all along!
mop is totally my fave metallica album, battery being one of the coolest songs ever. it's evil how good that album is.

Shpoop 02-27-2005 08:15 PM

Yes, master of puppets and and justice for all were awesome albums...but I don't understand why people can say that the later albums, namely black album, load, and reload were trash. Overplayed, yes, slightly more cliched, ok, but the music is still good. And St. Anger was the worst album i've ever heard, buy ANY band.

Hain 02-28-2005 07:03 AM

I'd have to say that my favorite songs by Metallica are on the S&M Tour. I love the live performance with the orchestra in the back--no other metal band has ever fused classical intruments with modern metal as well as them!

Song I would be currently listening to if I were at home: No Leaf Clover

Stompy 02-28-2005 11:27 AM

Master of Puppets is one of the best metal albums ever made.

It had a certain energy and anger that their later albums severely lacked. Justice was awesome, and I do enjoy the black album, but compared to Master... woo. They pale.

Master of Puppets is the epitome of heavy metal.

Please understand, that with a band as large as Metallica, making the claim of "Quite a Metallica Fan" is a rather bold statement, it definitely implies quite about a bit about the person and their information regarding the band.

Fan yes, Quite a fan...not yet?

:P

You can't tell the difference between mp3-quality and cd-quality? Maybe you should visit an ear doctor...

Looks like all the Metalica Fans out there have properly chastised you... It could have been worse for you though... Just imagine if you had heard this song the very first time during the MTV tribute when Limp Bizkit did it and asked the question as if it were a L.B. song.... lol now that would have been funny... and by the way to all the Bizkit haters out there... Fred Durst did this tune as well (or better?) that the Masters of Metal ever did! had to get my jab in there!

What? Ride the Lightning is by far their best.

My vote is for MOP!

absorbentishe 03-03-2005 03:34 PM

Master, Master.... Man, that album, and yes, I have the album, rocks! Ride is great, but not Master. Oh the old Metallica, nothing better.

lite campfire 03-03-2005 04:25 PM

I like a little bit of everything (Except St.Anger). My favorate would be the Black Album, if I had to choose, but my favorate song is Orion.

Therion. A lot of the S&M stuff is good, but the orchestra is still just an addition. Therion songs integrate orchestral and operatic elements from the beginning and show a much cleaner (and better, IMO) fusion.

Pythos 03-05-2005 04:57 AM

Master of Puppets has my vote for best Metallica album. Mainly for Damage Inc.

Even though I am now an old fart, I still look back fondly to my youth and being able to mosh to it live. God, over a decade ago now.

Second would, in my opinion go to, Kill'em all. Interesting tidbit. The Song "Motorbreath". The same music with different lyrics is on Megadeth's "Killing is my Business, and Business is Good." If forget what Mustaine titled it, I'll look when I get home.

I would have to agree with those that say, They went downhill after the Black album. There have been a few gems but only a few. I would rather listen to the old stuff any day.

FloydianOne 03-05-2005 03:21 PM

I love all Metallica... my favorite album is probably Ride the Lightning, however I also love S&M. The only album I dont like is their latest St. Anger... im sorry but it just sounds like trash to me, anyone else?

Hampshire 03-05-2005 09:25 PM

i enjoy each of their albums with a passion. Each one is so unique. I cant describe it, i just love them all for their individual creatness.
just my two cents

WillyPete 07-15-2005 05:26 AM

I really enjoyed the Garage days EP. (not the Garage days Inc.)
They printed the cheap price on the cover to voice against the extortionate price of albums. 'Crash course' rocks.
It also shows their roots and inspiration really well and will probably take you down music's seedy backstreets too by introducing you to the misfits and Diamond Head.

Am I evil and Blitzkrieg are also equally amazing on the Creeping Death 12".

God, who says you can't travel back in time. *Scurries for the ipod*

Sound and music are made up of much more than the audible frequencies. It's most obvious on sharp attacks such as snare hits. If you remove all of the overtones and upper frequencies such as with MP3 conversion there is a DEFINITE difference in quality.

Actually you are talking about "The Four Horsemen." The version on KIMB is called "The Mechanix" and is the original version of the song at the speed they originally played it. Metallica slowed it down, added the interlude and changed the lyrics, probably so that they didn't have to paid Dave as much.

skinnymofo 07-15-2005 02:28 PM

if i remember right, i believe mustaine wrote half of killem all?
as far as the best metallica songs i think "One" is my absolute favorite followed by call of ktulu for the instrumental pieces
MOP is a good album although the songs carry on a little long for my tastes. or it feels like it.

I know that he wrote The Four Horsemen, but he wrote it as a song called Mechanix. Slightly faster, a little shorter, and different lyrics, but an awesome song.

Shani - I think your keyboard is broken and you should have it checked....I think you meant "And Justice For All" there. Don't worry - I knew what you meant. . .

Daniel_ 07-15-2005 03:06 PM

Mustaine got credits on a lot of the Killemall tracks I seem to remember.

Somewhere I have an old cassette bootleg of the original version of the band performing the demos for the first album.

It's rough, but it's 'kin powerful.

StuckinRow 07-16-2005 07:42 PM

People hate the Black Album? Blasphemy!

The only album I hate with a passion is St. Anger. But other than that, I love them all.

I cant put a single album that I love the most.
I love all of Master of Puppets.
...AJFA has a lot of amazing songs.
Black Album is amazing.
Ride the Lightning and Kill 'Em All both have their awesome songs.
I love the way the orchestra goes so perfectly with the metal in S&M.
Load and Reload were different but still have some good songs.

whiplash13 07-16-2005 08:36 PM

I agree Master of Puppets is probably their best album. Metallica is by far my favorite band. I have seen them live 27 times in 5 different states.

Derwood 07-17-2005 12:25 PM

St. Anger has some good tracks, but it's definitely not great. Still better than the shit tracks like "I Disappear" or whatever that shit was from the MI2 soundtrack. Plus songs like "Until it Sleeps", etc. are far worse than anything on St. Anger.

I'll reiterate the beauty and pure genius of MOP. Let Cliff Burton RIP.

Daniel_ 07-17-2005 12:53 PM

I hav a soft spot for "RideTL" because it was the first of their records that I bought.

But Hamster of Muppets is damned good.

Lasereth 07-25-2005 07:22 PM

I'm wearing a Ride the Lightning shirt right now. :)

My favorite Metallica albums are Master of Puppets and St. Anger. It took me a good 4 full listen-throughs to like St. Anger, but now it's probably my favorite album. I like Metallica's pre-1990 music and post-2000 music the best I suppose. I don't mind songs like Nothing Else Matters, Until It Sleeps, Unforgiven, etc. but I like the hardcore heavy metal stuff from the early 80's way better. I don't understand how heavy metal enthusiasts that like older Metallica don't like St. Anger. It's the roughest, most metal music they've made in the past 15 years and people won't even give it a listen. They listen to it once and put it away. I gave it a chance and now love it. I think there's honestly 1 song on St. Anger that I don't like...the rest I consider excellent. Songs like Frantic, Dirty Window, St. Anger, and Some Kind of Monster are fucking amazing.

Anyone know if Metallica plans on another album being released?

-Lasereth

optik_nerve 07-25-2005 08:38 PM

I like older Metallica better, e.g. Ride the Lightning, MOP...not a giant fan of Kill Em All though.

My favorite has to be Orion...that song = bad assness
