Tour Cancellations
So about a week ago I'm looking around on the tour-page websites of my favorite bands and find out that Nightwish is going on a US tour this spring/summer and that they're touring with Sonata Arctica. I've been a Nightwish fan for a while, but I've only recently started listening to Sonata Arctica. Naturally, I was excited as hell to get to see them both on the same night. There wasn't going to be a show particularly close to me, but I was willing to go out of my way a little bit to make sure I saw them.
As soon as I started making arrangements with friends, of course, tour dates started to change from April to September and then started to disappear altogether. It's to the point now where I think Sonata Arctica isn't going to be opening for them at all except for maybe once or twice in Ohio or something and there are about half as many Nightwish shows as there originally were going to be, none in cities that I can easily make it to. Drives me up a wall when this happens. Ah well, maybe things will get changed back. Keeping my fingers crossed... I'm sure this has probably happened to everyone before, but what's your worst experience with being disappointed with a scheduled tour being changed or cancelled? |

i've been a big fish/marillion fan since the mid-80s. marillion (with fish) only played near me once in '87, but at the time my girlfriend wasn't really into them and didn't want to go (and made it clear she wasn't all that keen on my going without her). like an idiot, i passed on the opportunity, and fish left the band a year and a half later or so. in the years since, both fish and marillion have made small tours of the states. i got lucky with marillion, and managed to see 4 shows in the years from '90 to '97 - given how much they tour the states, that's a lot for not seeing multiple shows on any tour. fish had one tour that got within a few hours of me once, but i didn't go (can't remember why now). the next tour, i snatched up my ticket for the cincinnati show (an hour and a half from me) right away - a couple of months before it was to happen. i would FINALLY get to see fish in person!
of course, given i'm posting it in this thread, you know that didn't happen. fish ended up having to cancel his entire north american tour. if memory serves, that was around '97 and he hasn't toured the states since. i still have the ticketbastard ticket and am thinking of sending to him and asking him to sign it for me at least. marillion, on the other hand, toured the states back in october for the first time since '97. my 7 year old son was 2 weeks old the last time i saw them, so i jumped at the chance to see them again. it was a fantastic show, and i'm hearing rumors of them hitting the states again this year. |

this isn't so much a cancellation as a 'band only plays some shows' thing. I got a great deal to go with a friend to lalapalooza (is that right?) and i checked the site to see who was going to be there and before checking out the dates i got all excited because A Perfect Circle was playing (some) dates. The site didn't make it real clear that some bands weren't doing all the dates so I got my hopes up just to find out they weren't playing the Detroit date.
I guess i shouldn't complain I still saw a pretty good show for pretty cheap eventhough I'd love to have seen what APC does compared to Tool.

The year I turned 17 I got Stevie Nicks tickets for my birthday. I was super excited because I'm a huge fan of hers and of Fleetwood Mac's. Then a few weeks before the show, she cancelled cause she got sick. I still have yet to see her or Fleetwood Mac live.

I didn't go see Warren Zevon at Be Here Now because my ex-wife wouldn't "let" me. Never saw him again after that show.
I had tickets to see GNR in Greenville a couple years ago, and well, you know!

I had tickets for NOFX and Frenzal Rhomb in November of 2001 in Chicago. I don't remember the tour name, but it was something derogatory aimed at Bush. Anyways, 9/11 occurs, and the venues decide they can't advertise a tour with that name and they drop the dates. Luckily, the date was rescheduled for March, and I got to see them. It was frustrating because it seemed like I had the tickets for almost half a year before I got to see them, which is entirely too long to be waiting while having tickets IMO. Show rocked, so it was well worth it.
