that was pretty cool. i've checked out a couple of the other "mashups" too, and they are pretty good. they don't seem all that strange to me though. i do lots of mixing, and find all sorts of different songs that go together, and if the end product sounds good, i wouldn't really call it a "mashup." that's the neat thing about music: it's so different, yet still the same.
for example, check out Too Many DJ's, aka Soulwax. They mix all sorts of genres of music into one huge, long, coherent mass of music. you should definitely check it out if you haven't heard them yet. Last edited by degrawj; 02-15-2005 at 05:21 PM.. |

And this one didn't seem weird to me, but perhaps it is because I'm not familiar with Snoop. 'Eminenya' was much weirder.

degrawj - I love soulwax. From the first time I heard TLC over Iggy and the Stooges, i knew they were over the top.
ChickenNinja - A lot of companies release singles of their artist's hit songs for DJs that include Acapella and Instrumental versions of the songs, I have about a million of them sitting around in crates, and with things like ProScratch, it's become really easy to hook up a turntable to a computer and get those kinds of things onto the internet. |

man, mashups are so cool. Anyone know what one of the more popular kings of leon mashups were? I heard it a semester or two ago my (now) academic advisor was lecturing in a law class about file sharing and he played a lot of weird mashups but I really like that kings of leon one...and he doesn't seem to remember who did it or who kings of leon were mashed with.

i'm not sure, i'll look around and see. I honestly wouldn't even remember the bands name even if I heard it. sadly i can't use filesharing stuff being on university campus, but thanks for the help. its something to start with more than i had before.

That was a well done mash up. Most are done really poorly.
There are some REAL good mash up at Go Home Productions !

I really hate these things. There's just something about them that don't sit well with me. For example, the Linkin Park/Jay Z mashup. Jay Z by himself, fine. Linkin Park by themselves, fine. Jay Z with LP background, fine. LP with Jay Z background, fine. But both in the same song sounds horrible IMO. Then again, opinions are like farts. Everyone has them, but some people can't control them.

Well there are the live versions that they recorded while on tour.
The studio sound versions could easily be called mashups, though. Numb/Encore was pretty good.

Lots of links in an old thread here, Tilted Forum Project - Bastard Pop. I also have been having a lot of luck recently with the site CDX2 - Bootlegs, Remixes, Covers and Weird Shit.
