i haven't heard the cd i won't mess with the poll.

i am listening to the single as we speak and it fucking _sucks_

and the video cracks me up. tough Metallica playing in a prison! wooo!

can you honestly imagine Lars being trapped in prison? I'd pay $ to see it.

now as for them. if they like it, they should continue. i never threw stones when they changed up.

but as for the song....... its horrible.

My first reaction to the song ("St. Anger"), which is a weird reaction, is that it was mixed very poorly. It's all vocals and drums. Where are the guitars? They are buried in the mix. Why does Bob Rock want Hetfield's voice so much louder than the rest of the mix? Very weird. The song is just too long, and too schizo IMO, as it goes from slow and melodic to freak out every 30 seconds.

First off....

1. Frantic
2. St. Anger
3. Some Kind of Monster
4. Dirty Window
5. Invisible Kid
6. My World
7. Shoot Me Again
8. Sweet Amber
9. The Unnamed Feeling
10. Purify
11. All Within My Hands

Tracklisting for St. Anger

Secondly

These are the ONLY ones with FULL SONGS released:
St. Anger

Yup, that is the ONLY FULL SONG RELEASED SO FAR

There are a few officially released clips of Frantic and Some Kind of Monster...those are the only ones. The others, are very small clips from Videos presented on Jump In The Studio.

SO

Best check your sources

I for one, think this is a new age of Metallica. They have lived up to everything they said this album would be. Its not another AJFA, its not another MOP, its not another KEA, its NEW.

So stop trying to make it sound like something its not, oh, almost forgot, if you read anything before making your statements, its supposed to be raw.

My first reaction to the song St. Anger was it sucks, but after hearing it a few times I've upgraded it to OK, same as I Dissappear. Now I've been a fan of all the albums people hated, Load & Reload, Garage Days, S&M...I dunno, I'll have to hear the whole album before I pass judgement...

Nobody wanted to hate their new song more than me cause I have hated everything that they've put out since ....And Justice For All, but I think the new song kicks ass. I hope that the rest of the album is like that. Now if I could just find something other than the video to St Anger on the internet I'll be happy. I won't give a final verdict on the new album until I hear it.

First off - Kirk has NO solo in St. Anger. Second - James' vocals either just plain suck or they were mixed improperly. They're totally off key with the drums. I had very high hopes for St. Anger, because I love Metallica. But now I'm wary

it's reputed that there are NO solos in the entire album. could be good or bad, depending on how much kirk still relies on his wah to fill out his solos. i liked the song structure (back to ajfa days) but the riffing wasn't very interesting and the vocals lacked an interesting melody to make up for the atonal guitar work.

and to be picky, vocals can't be off-key with drums... maybe you were thinking off-tempo? that's simply not the case... maybe the shifting time signatures were what threw you.

I just heard it again, and I want to reiterate my point that this song isn't mixed well. It's all vocals and cymbal crashes, especially in the "Fuck you, no regrets" section.

I pretty much think that the vocals ruin the song. The music has some potential, but the singing is bad and rides too high in the mix. I'd blame Bob Rock, but this hasn't been a problem on the past 3 albums...

I'm a diehard Metallica fan through and through. I have St. Anger bought and paid for just have to wait until the tenth, I even found a couple of things to like about Reload...although i will admit they were few and far between. I've only heard the sample clips of Some Kind of Monster and Frantic and from those i can almost gaurantee my money was well spent.

I also have to say one thing about there not being solos in the album. No Way!!! I can only think of one song off the top of my head that doesn't have a solo(Bells) and maybe they did one on the new album but i highly doubt there are no solos on the whole album. And if im wrong its cool...but as a guitar player myself i will be highly disappointed if I am wrong.

Thats enough of my rambling....

I'll give Metallica mad props for their first 5 albums, but I simply cannot listen to them without thinking how phony they are now. I know I'm going to end up hearing the new album sooner or later, but I have no desire at all to hear it.

A funny trivia fact on the new cd: A friend of mine who works at a college radio station says that Metallica took extreme measures for the single not to leak by allowing radio stations to download an mp3 of it off their webpage with a special password that only works at noon.

In otherwords, the saved everyone the effort of ripping it off a promo cd by only allowing it to be distributed in mp3 format.

There are so many fake copies going around. If you say you have the real one, I really doubt it. Don't judge until you hear the actual release.

There have been several tracks downloadable from Kazaa that are are labled Metallica: St. Anger. Most are Metallica tracks that few people have heard. There are demos floating around of tracks that never made it to an albulm, for obvious reasons, not every song is good(St. Anger had 30+ only 11 were chosen). So, when someone finds a song on Kazaa with the St. Anger name on it and it's bad, that person asumes that St. Anger sucks. And some tracks on Kazaa aren't even Metallica, but some knock off Metallica sound-alike. My point is, don't believe everything you find on Kazaa, and wait till June 10th for the CD before you judge.

Sorry for not responding, i was just amazed that my first post EVER would get such a big response. Thought that if i posted anymore it would just be shit compared to my first but I will have another go then.

I have the video for St Anger so I can say i am able to speak on the subject.

I am very temped to say a very typical response.
"Not as good as their old stuff", which would be true, I feel. But it is unfair of me only to say this.

The question is what do we want from them? The albums up to and including the black albums were of a time and that time has now gone.

Metallica have to change if are to keep together as a band. Some bands may trundle on rehashing similar album after similar album but should we not appreciate that Metallica have saved us from this.

Perhaps some of us out there would prefer if they had split after the Black Album and saved you from this evolution. I for one am just happy that they are still around producing top tunes.

I am going to keep an open mind on the rest of the album but if this 1st single is anything to go buy things are looking, better!

I can't wait to see them in August when they play in Leeds UK. I am such a lucky chap!!

naw... these guys should pack it in... or at least get a vocalist.

I have been a Met fan since i was about 12 yrs old? i am now 34 ... i listen mostly to such bands as OPETH, SYL, Meshuggah, Dark Tranquility.. .. etc.. and i must say that these guys should just pack it in. not try to get heavier again.. it is almost shamefull.. just my opinion.

Allthough.. i would love it if the new disc actually impressed me.. .. i could just skip over this song.

OK.. Nice find.. But should not be mistaken as a released video.. St. Anger is being released as a two disk set, one audio, the other a rehearsal video from the studio with all 11 songs being played live by the band in the "A room" of "Metallica HQ". This is what this is. Members of JITS on metallica.com had the chance to watch this being fillmed via a multiple webcam webcast back in March. I'm not sure how this leaked out, as I haven't seen it in a public format, but it is a good find.. Again, not a release..

OH HELL YEAH!

FROM MET.COM:

.........................................

Can't wait 8 more days till the release of St. Anger? Well neither can we!! The NEW St. Anger day is now 5 days early, Thursday June 5th, worldwide!! (Japan on June 6th) That's all you really wanted to know right? Good!! Here is the official press release (snooze fest) below:

METALLICA TO RELEASE MUCH ANTICIPATED ST. ANGER FIVE DAYS EARLY

New York, NY - Due to the unprecedented level of anticipation and the prevalence of sub-standard versions of Metallica's upcoming, St. Anger, already in circulation, Elektra Records has moved up the release date of the new album, from Tuesday, June 10, to Thursday, June 5.

Elektra and Metallica have taken this extraordinary measure to ensure that counterfeit copies of the band's first studio album in six years do not proliferate in the marketplace. Metallica unanimously approved the move, guaranteeing that fans get first crack at hearing the acclaimed disk the way the band intended: Loud and unadulterated.

A spokesperson for Elektra indicates that this is a rare exception to standard release policy for the label, pointing out that demand for the new Metallica album warrants every measure be undertaken to prevent unauthorized leaks of St. Anger. In the past year, superstar artists such as Eminem and 50 Cent have both moved up their respective release dates to stem illegal piracy. Metallica is the first rock band to move up a release to counter the spread of unauthorized copies. According to noted magazine's Spin and Blender, Metallica followers will be ecstatic to hear St. Anger the way the band intended. Says Spin: 'This is the album Metallica lifers have been waiting for: an inspired return to the complex savagery of old.' Blender raves: 'Once again their music is about bringing the carnage...whiplash time shifts and thrash guitar evoke prime Metallica.'

In other overtures to fans, Metallica has conjured up a slew of unique activities and promotions to celebrate the release of their 10th album, St. Anger.

The band has crafted a DVD Treasure Hunt for fans hungry for Metallica performances of new material. The first ever-online music promotion of its kind, the Treasure Hunt coincides with Metallica's recent announcement that they would be including a unique live performance DVD as an added component of the disk. The performance features the group playing all of St. Anger's songs live in 'shitty 5.1 sound.' Metallica's Treasure Hunt will include every track from the DVD, each streamed to a different site - not necessarily affiliated with music - so that fans will have to hunt for the rare performances themselves. Clues to finding the hidden 'treasures' will be made available on Metallica's website, www.Metallica.com. The DVD Treasure Hunt is set to kickoff on June 3.

The legendary group, who were recently named MTV Icons by the music channel with a special all-star tribute show broadcast on May 6, will also be providing a special digital access pass to every one who purchases the St. Anger CD, granting entry into a Metallica vault of unreleased live performances by the band. The promotion, hosted in conjunction with independent broadband provider Speakeasy, provides each record buying user with a unique access number contained in the CD packaging that entitles the purchaser to log on to www.Metallicavault.com, punch in their number and enter a digital vault filled with Metallica live gems.

The group recently offered a rare opportunity for fans to see Metallica play live in an intimate theatre setting in one of rock's most historic venues, San Francisco's famous Fillmore. Lucky members of Metallica's fan club won tickets to the once-in-a-lifetime free concert series, which took place to rave reviews on May 18, 19, 21 and 22. Metallica will kick off their much-anticipated Summer Sanitarium Tour in June, featuring Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Deftones and Mudvayne.

Yahoo.com has also named Metallica Launch Artist Of The Month for June. Yahoo's Artist Of The Month Page is accessed over two million times during the month, and will give Metallica fans an up-close glimpse of the band via unique and comprehensive content, including exclusive interviews, a complete video retrospective, and a rare, live, in-studio performance, among other features.

Metallica also staged an extremely rare performance while making the video for the first clip from their album, the title track from St. Anger. The group performed in front of inmates at San Quentin Prison, all part of an 18 hour shoot for the new clip, directed by the Molloy brothers ( Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters, among others) and featuring the band in all their hellacious glory. Among the songs the band performed for the inmates were 'For Whom The Bell tolls,' 'Fade To Black,' and 'One.'
