I've found 5: frantic, unnamed feeling, purify, invisible kid, and my world. One thing though, all these songs seem too long (6-8 min) with unimaginative lyrics and repeated riffs without any kind of filler to tie them together. After hearing all this, i still cant pass judgement on the album as a whole, but i have to say that its nowhere near the type of stuff they used to put out.

I think allot of that is because it's a live rehearsal, and when these were recorded they had been played in their entirety only a few times.

Its a good album...i expected a LOT more.
There aren't any solos...which kinda sucks. Also it all starts to sound the same after a while. Doesn't come close to Justice or anything before it but its better than Reload(which is still a good album). My 2 pennies |

I got the album, too. It's growing on me. It's definitely not what I expected...but each time I hear the songs, they sound better. I guess I wasn't expecting it to sound so raw, but I'm not disappointed.

I just listened to it a few times and I think it kicks ass!
Trust me when I say this. Nobody wanted to hate this album more than me. I'm glad they actually made something good. It only took them over a gad damn decade. Load and Reload still suck donkey cock. |

Let us mourn the death of Metallica .
I just heard the new Metallica single . My eyes are welling with tears with the sadness of the demise of one of the greatest metal band of all time . The drums in St. Anger are the most pathetic excuse for a percussive performance I've ever heard. There's barely anything but bangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbang bangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbangbang through the whole song . Totally uninteresting to listen too . Tedious even . The black album was the first sign that Metallica was dead . Everything after it was just the ever worsening stench of death . Classic Metallica still rocks .Too bad they got replaced by clones from another planet after 1991 . \m/ ^_^ \m/

I hated it at first, but the more I listen to it, the better it gets. Metallica is easily my favorite band ever, and I have to say that they haven't let me down with St. Anger. Listen to the songs over a few times and I guarantee it gets better. It's different than most of their stuff, but it doesn't mean it's bad.

Oh, and for all you people that are complaining that it sounds "raw" and the drums sound repetitive and not very good quality, there's a reason. St. Anger is not mixed. It's not synthesized, it's not digitally touched up before being put out on the album. It's recorded in the studio with NO adjustments. Metallica doesn't even want St. Anger on the radio. They made this CD to prove that they are still a kick ass band, synthesized or not. Maybe those drums sound bang bang bang because IT'S REAL. It's not Avril Levigne'ized or No Doubt-chopped, it's fucking REAL, straight from the studio.

the drumming kicks the ass of everyone who said Lars can't drum for shit. Guess you better think about what you say before you complain.
And for the record, lets see you perform what he does at 40?

I agree about the lyrics. Mostly unlistenable. And what is up with no melody at all to the singing? Even back in the Kill Em All days, there was a little bit of structure to Hetfield's singing.
What I do like about the album are the riffs. Seems like if you took out the vocals, you might mistake about half the songs as Pantera riffs and the other half as Soundgarden

I can't really pass judgement yet, just picked it up today. I have to say I wish they would have put out two versions tho.... one raw like this one, and one polished like thier others. I can say one thing... to like this album you need to be able to ignore the lyrics. God, these are seriously shitty luyrics. Melodies aren;t basd tho... so I'll get back to ya in a few days. Yes, Lars drumming kicks ass.

I bought and listened to this album like 10 times so far....I can't get into it. I've always been a Metallica fan and give all there albums a fair and unbiased listen. Basically it is exactly what I expected. Not as good as I could have hoped for....There are hardly any ripping solos...lars's snare drum sounds like he's whacking on a garbage can lid, and all the riffs are generic. I really can't get over the way the drums sound on this album. I think Bob Rock over produced this album. Whatever, I gave it a try...it's off to the CD exchange for me. I just can't "evolve with the new Metallica.

Guttersnipe, ther is NO production on this album... that's the point. Seriously. Recorded in studio, never mixed other than setting initial levels, never mastered. And it was confirmed a few weeks ago that there isn't a single solo on there. I'm not being a dick,
I'm just letting you know.

I have heard the album and i still hate Metallica and everything they stand for. I wish Kirk Hammet would leave the band cuz he is a good guitarist but James Hetfield is a pile of crap. And dont even get me started on that little punk, Lars.
The only good album ever put out by Metallica: ...And Justics for All.
