Metallica Fans: Load & ReLoad
I only actually own s&m and the Black album, but I really like the songs that I have heard off of Load and ReLoad. Why does it seem that most Metallica fans hate those two albums?

people hate those albums because they feel that metallica didn't stay true to their metal roots and sold out to the music industry. i try to take them as stand-alone works and judge them on their own merits. i think load's got some decent songs (really like hero of the day. bleeding me, outlaw torn) and reload is a little less consistent, but the constant hating on metallica is really tiresome.

Compared to Metallica's older stuff, Load and Reload aren't up to par to great albums like the Black Album, Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, etc. But they are decent albums, songs like Hero of the Day and Fuel are pretty good, but still, not what I would consider their best albums.

Load and Reload are loads that should have been flushed down the toilet. Everything up to ....And Justice For All rules. After that they totally lost me. Their music is still good for a hard rock band, but the problem is they were the most badass metal band on the planet. I just didn't grow up with them I guess. I've heard 4 songs off of St Anger and it's actually pretty good. I was very surprised. I was expecting the same garbage that they've been puting out over the past 10 years. I want to hear the entire album before I say whether they went back to their roots.

hmmm.. Metalica. i feel like i may get sued for just typing their name.
musicly , awesome up until load. that's just me, my bbother loved Load and Reload. but its not me. i did like their Garage Inc cover songs. S&M never did anything for me and i'm trying to withhold judgement on St. Anger until i hear it all. I wish i could find another cd music and lyricly like ... And justice For all. as people, they suck. I admired all of them until they started suing random people for having the name metalica. i do not know what all lawsuits are true, but i've heard they've sued a perfume business and a mechanical shop. the napster thing didn't bother me. everyone has an opinion. but going after anyone using the name Metallica is just fucking lame. watch some of te making of material... lars is such an asshole. kirk seems okay, James seems decent but he's a bit too snobbish still. Jason did the right thing, telling them bu-bye! |

justice kicked serious ass!!!
they WERE the most badass metal band but their music changed direction in a way that didn't suit my taste. Don't get me wrong though, its not like they began to suck...they are still awesome musicians but i am not a fan of their work anymore. in the end though, more people like them now them before the black album so they just became more accessible to the mainstream audience, they used to be underground and now my mother can name them all!!!

It's hard to be 40 and as pissed off as your were when you were 20. Most bands mellow out a bit after 20 years. Or they breakup.

Aaack! I misses a Metallica thread! How dare me.. Ummm..
OK Shocker.. And Sorry AP.. Load lacked, but kind of grew on me, and Reload sucked totally. The one thing you all should understand is that: 1) I am only 28 and: 2) I lived in the south east for all of 21 years of my life.. Metallica was rarely known here until after MOP around 87'. In 87' I was 12 years old, and not yet introduced to metal. It wasn't until 89', when I started sneaking into the local pool hall to shoot and play the box in the corner, that I got my first taste of 'Tallica.. It was One from Justice to be exact(I wore that mother fucker out).. I later started catching the vids from The Black Album, and was totally blown away by songs like Where Ever I May Roam, Sad But True, Nothing Else Matters, and Enter Sandman. (Side note: This is when I earned the tag Doc Psycho, now Doc. Real metal heads were rare here at the time, but I soon changed that.) I soon made friends who were a little older, had bands, and played allot of the old 'Tallica covers.. It was then that I really started learning about this great thing called Heavy Metal and Metallica. I also learned about allot of other things that I wont mention here, but will save for another thread. Since that time, I have made it a point to learn all I could about Metallica, and everything and everyone that has made it so great. I owe Metallica allot, I may not be here today if not for James and the emotion that he pours into his music, and lyrics. I learned from him that there are others like myself that feel the same way about certain things. He felt rage, he hated, he hurt, and so did I. But instead of doing something stupid, he put it in his music. Anyway.. My point is.. I wasn't around for the KEA, RTL, MOP, or even really AJFA. I did make it a point to catch up.. And I love the pre BA stuff, allot.. And even though I do feel that the BA was a bit commercial, I still think it kicked ass. My take on Load and Reload is Jason Newsted, inadvertently. I saw James trying to deny the fact that he was getting old, and he was trying to play up to the young kid, and prove that he could keep up. Jason wanted what Load and Reload became, and that was the Nirvana-ish crap that came out.. As I said, Load grew on me, but that's because of my generation.. I liked Nirvana.. I really liked the lyrics that James put into Load, but because I could relate to the ideas. Another thing is, James was also going through allot of personal shit at the time, one being his father passing away. Things like that can take a toll on a person. Another thing I can relate to. Reload was basically a bunch of stuff that didn't make it on Load, for obviously good reason. Now.. St. Anger.. So far I have been able to hear most of it, and I must say, I like it.. It's just one big pile fucking, in your face, tell it like it is, kickass metal. It's different, it's new, and it's old. There are allot of new ideas in this.. Kirk and Lars actually wrote lyrics, and James loved it.. You will here an interview with James that comes with the package, where he says that they all started fresh.. No one came into the studio with their own little babies that no one could fuck with. They all added to the mix, and worked together. Just don't analyze this CD, listen for what it is. I think you'll like it. I'm sorry for the rant.. I didn't intend to get this involved with this post. I just hope you all understand where I come from, and why I'm so involved with this band. And PA, thanks man, I didn't think I had a friend out there.. Peace!
