Music Recommendations
Heya!
I have almost 19 gigs of music on my computer, accumulated over the years. However, much of these are tunes that I've found I just don't like. I got an iTunes gift certficate, and would like some help in finding music to fit my tastes. I'm hoping the audiophiles here at TFP can help. Here are some artists that I tend to like. Granted, some of them are more for the music than lyrics (think John Mayer). (Really like): Dispatch ! Belle & Sebastian ! The Polyphonic Spree ! Jack Johnson O.A.R. Sublime Common ! Tom Petty ! Crash Test Dummies ! Rage Against The Machine ! (Listen to alot): 311 Presidents of the United States of America (Yeah!) Nirvana Weezer The Beatles String Cheese Incident (Pop junkie music): Dashboard Confessional Dave Matthews Kanye West John Mayer I know some of these are all over the place, switching from Rage to Kanye to Dispatch, but I'm hoping there are some correlations in there. I'm mainly looking to expand my horizons in the direction of Dispatch, B&S, and bands of that nature. I've been hearing B&S on MTV the past week or so. Eek! Any TFP help on establishing indie music street cred?

Alien Ant Farm Something Corporate Shuvel (from here, yippee) Incubus (Enjoy and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. mainly) Mos Def Zant, that's actually a Sublime song, but it's been remixed and put out so many different ways it's sad. |

Before I spend money on new music, I like to go to sites like Amazon.com to read the reviews of people who bought the music. It gives you a good idea of what the music sounds like in relation to other bands you may like.
I suggest: Bloc Party The Von Bondies Rilo Kiley Snow Patrol Iron & Wine Lovedrug Ben Harper Kimya Dawson I've been enjoying all of these people lately. |

Nick Drake - influence on Belle & Sebastian
Stew - nice mellow/bouncy stuff with strong vocals The Shins - their first album bore strong resemblances to Pet Sounds, their most recent is more distinct, poppy, and just plain fun.

Thank you for the comments and replies. I will now have plenty of music to check out in the coming weeks and months. I may have to buy a new iPod!
