britney update
as reported in Entertainment Weekly:
britney spears is putting her clothing in a special online auction to raise money for charity to benefit -- wait for it -- the "Britney Spears Foundation, which provides scholarships for kids to attend a performing-arts camp." um...ok. says britney: ''They're kind of iconic or whatever,'' Spears said of the costumes in a press conference on Thursday, ''but it's not like I'm going to be wearing them anytime soon. And although I'm kind of sad about some of the pieces going, I know that the money we raise will have a huge payback.'' money has a huge payback. it is NOT known wether ms. spears thought about what she just said & added an embarrased disclaimer, "ooops...i did it again!" i'm having too much fun with these britney stories. click here for auction website.

I believe one must ask oneself a question here.
Who's stupider? Britney Spears for creating a charity to help kids (as much as I'm sure it's just an image thing set up by her agent) and auctioning off old clothes she wore to asist that charity (publicity stunt or not, if it does what it's supposed to it is a good thing), or the people who will pay ungodly amounts of money for those clothes - and NOT because they want to help out some charity. I think those people are FAR more worthy targets in this story than Britney Spears is.

I think the "huge payback" she was referring to was the part in the contract the camp attendees sign that says Brittney gets a share of their earnings if they become famous. Just a cynical guess, but I doubt if it's that far from the truth.

probably because her clothes will go for huge amounts of money, maybe more money than any amount of her money she would like to give away. maybe because that is the clothes that she wore in videos. maybe because the clothes would go for ten to a hundred times what is worth because she wore them and they touched her (gasp!) hot little body. maybe there is more publicity this way.
