Opera -- Italian or German?
I'll never quite understand how it is that I hold such disdain for vibrato but still enjoy opera.
Anyway, the question today is which you prefer, the German or Italian flavor of opera. I also put in an option for people who don't like opera. To people who vote that option, I ask, "Why the hell did you bother to read this thread?" |
Italian, without question.
IMO, German is fine for a language, but is just to gutteral for music. It sounds harsh when sung and Opera should flow. Now Italian, it's almost like that language was invented to be sung. It flows and flits, just like music. |
Lebell said it. Nothing else to discuss, in my opinion. I guess the only opera that would sound good in German would be "Der Ring des Nibelungen." Well, and other Wagner like "Götterdammerung."

italian does flow much better.
all depends on my mood. i love listening to the german language. |
italian sounds much more musical. um, maybe that is why i could never get through the entire ring cycle. anyway, das rhinegold is just fine, um, the beer that is. :D
