Musicians

I'm a music major at Northern Illinois University. I'm just wondering if there are any other pro/collegiate musicians out there. Any style of music, I'm a classical trumpet player myself but I mainly like to listen to rock so...follow up!

<== College rocker
No classical training aside from singing but self taught guitar, bass, piano, analog synth, sarood, banjo, mandolin, drum programming, djimbe, recording tech, working on cello right now

Dang that's a lot of stuff. Awesome man. I do a little guitar also cause I really love the rock music but studying trumpet in college has really taken away any time to practice it.

i have my B.Mus in Jazz studies. I play mostly Guitar. I play bass, drums keyboards and trombone (used to in my younger days). Curent plans are in the works for a debut album. I teach privately 6 days a week and perform in a jazz trio and Blues band. Plans are in motion to go back to school and get my Masters in Jazz performance :)

I was classically trained on the violin ... but I play mainly piano/keyboards these days. I also play guitar and most other stringed intruments. I've been playing for nearly 30 years. Professionally for about 20 years.

i teach university courses in history and experimental music, but decided early on not to go into university as a music student.
i work professionally in an "experimental" format.

you can check some of it out here:

www.clairaudient.org

newer stuff is under the autopoiesis link.
you can tell the pieces apart, sort of, by looking at the sonographs.
we'll be doing new stuff in the next week or so that should be up not long after.

On track for a Bachelor's in Music Performance with emphasis in Composition. My chosen instrument of study is voice, but I have formal instruction in piano and saxophone also. In addition, I taught myself to play guitar, tuba, trumpet (pretty much any keyed brass instrument), any kind of percussion, bass, some recording/live mixing stuff. My next project (which will be during summer breaks, my major takes a lot of time) is hammond organ or banjo, can't decide which.

If you play professionally where and with who? Anyone from the illinois area that has extra gigs for a classical trumpet player...? haha...yea right.

K-Wise 12-13-2004 10:04 PM

I used to play a mean recorder back in fourth grade

Mostly I am a percussionist. I play all forms of percussion, drumset, marching, keyboards, auxilary stuff. Taught myself bass, taught myself guitar, taught myself piano. Can't sing for crap. That's next on the agenda. Then something like a violin or viola.

I play violin (classically trained) in a quartet at my college ....we do weddings and crap (rather good price too) I have played in one rock band back in high school that was crap (I was keyboards)

My gf is teaching me guitar...and I picked up some mandolin somewhere

K-Wise 12-16-2004 03:28 PM

You should be a natural on the mandolin since it's tuned the same as a violin. You have to think in quadruple stops most of the time.

Music Education major. I play sax and clarinet. Mostly classical, but I love jazz.

Clarinetist. Music major for five years, next semester is my last (dropping out), but I'll only be registered for wind ensemble and orchestra.

Was music ed, but then found out I didn't want to be a teacher badly enough to go through all of the garbage. Nothing kills your desire to teach more than education classes.

mikeylips 12-18-2004 12:20 AM

Yea education classes really do suck but I know that music is what I love, what I'm good at, and there isn't any other degree program that I'd be happy in. What school do all you music majors go to?
