Aussie music

This is for all of you non-Aussies out there. I'm curious, do you guys hear anything from bands/singers such as:

Silverchair
1200 Techniques
Delta Goodrem
Grinspoon
Shihad/Pacifier
Powderfinger
Taxiride
The Vines
Queens of the stoneage
??????????????????????

Atomic Pinkie 04-20-2003 02:13 AM

QOTSA are huge out here in Arizona (USA), Silvacha was big for awhile, i hear their making a comeback after the lead singers bout with an eating disorder....

Love 'Queens of the stoneage' I'm into 'The Vines' sound, but I ain't heard of the rest. Was listening to 'Jimmy Barnes' this morning, oh God! I'm showing my age now.

Magpie0001 04-20-2003 07:49 AM

Love Silverchair and Queens of the stone age!
To show you how diverse my musical taste is though..... here's an Aussie band I love too! They were awesome, I hear they're still touring ( without any original members).......
The Little River Band!

Bloody Australians trying to take credit for our talent... :P

As for actual Australian bands, I like Grinspoon and Powderfinger, Silverchair aren't bad either.

jmf1234 04-25-2003 04:35 PM

Powderfinger i think had a single out here in the US but i cant remember its name. QOTSA and The Vines are huge out here. especially for the Vines last year when The Hives, The White Stripes and The Strokes all had huge albums, that's died down.
Silverchair used to be known out here but not anymore.

Soda_BoB 04-26-2003 09:41 PM

Hey maverick Im Australian and listen to someo of those bands...ie Silverchair Grinspoon Bodyjar....but I am positive QOTSA are not Australian 100% positive Im not sure why anyone didn't pic that up

Dil 04-26-2003 11:26 PM

QOTSA are not Auzzie

also be sure to check out 28days they go off

methodtim 04-27-2003 01:28 AM

I was in Oz last year and all I couldn't get enough of Sophie Ellis Bexter. It's Murder on the Dancefloor! And my mates (when in Rome...) were playing Bexta and Nick Fish mix CD's non-stop. But eh, that's what I get for hanging with techno -loving blokes.

My favorite album for about three years was Blue Sky Mining by Peter Garrett and his boys. Loved that group.

What's Spiderbait's reputation like in Australia? I'm surprised that they were never signed to an American label; they have (had?) some great stuff...

Ratman 04-29-2003 05:31 AM

I used to love the HooDoo Guru's.

Soda_BoB 04-29-2003 11:26 PM

How can anyone forget to mention...AC\DC!!!!!

maximusveritas 04-29-2003 11:32 PM

I like Powderfinger and Silverchair. I also like Shihad/Pacifier even if they're not Aussies. I also like the stuff I've heard from Superheist.

frozenstellar 04-30-2003 03:32 AM

Despite being an aussie, im not a huge fan of aussie music, but some stuff is alright.

Bands worth mentioning:
Something for Kate
COG - i'd be interested if anyone outside of aussie has heard of these guys, they are brilliant aussie progressive rock, check them out.
Jerk - Their debut album just released. Industrial.. great stuff

there is a lot of great unsigned talent in australia. anyone with connections into the metal industry feel like checkin some out, contact me. i'm sure they'd love you for it.

GTO 05-02-2003 04:52 AM

What about some of the new Aussie bands coming up, like 'Jet' and 'the Casanovas' and probably the greatest Aussie band:
'You Am I'

and dont forget the Esay Beats

perripken 05-02-2003 07:36 AM

yes AC/DC!
