Sarah Harmer & Josh Ritter

I don't know if there's any fans of either on here, but I just saw them play a show together in Victoria here, and they both blew me away.

I'm much more familiar with Harmer, and have been a fan of her music for a long time now. I knew she was a great songwriter, but she surprised me with her ability to play the guitar really well as well. I also completely underestimated the power of her voice. The show was at ancient McPherson Playhouse, so the excellent acoustics really fit her lovely voice. She put a lot into the show, and she sounded great all night.

I had only heard a bit of Ritter, who I is from Idaho and made this year's Longlist for the Shortlist of Music award. He's an insanely funny man with another great voice, and his lyrics were really fresh. His song "Wings" reminds me a lot of something a young Bob Dylan might have written, as it tells a chilling story with a climax that just makes you cringe at the end. Overall, I would say he sounds a lot like 2001-esque Ryan Adams.

Great show, anyone else a fan of either?

Huge fan of Josh Ritter. Haven't heard of the girl, but Ritter writes some amazing stufff. I'd love to see him live.

I caught the show a couple weeks ago in Calgary. They were both great, the venue was awsome for the show as well.

Haha, I heard he compared the venue in Calgary to a birthday cake, as he did here, and in Ottawa, and in Fredericton, and likely in other places... that just makes me thing he's even funnier somehow.

Jeff, I only own Hello Starling. I find it doesn't really sound a lot like the way he sounds in concert, and the album doesn't showcase his voice well enough. Do you know by chance if his earlier album is better?

Sarah Harmer is a very talented musician. I really really like her. I haven't picked up her second album yet, as I would like to sample it first, but if it's even half as good as "you were here" I'll be adding it to my collection for sure. I really like her voice. She was in Halifax here a while back, but I wasn't crossing Confederation Bridge to see her. I"m not a millionaire. Two years ago she came right to Summerside. I wish she would have made the trek. Oh well. REally like her. Really dig her stuff.

I mentioned Ritter in the Acoustic artist recomendation thread. One of my old friends was a huge fan of his. He would show me his music.

I love Sarah Harmer... I have all three of her solo albums and also have her work with Weeping Tile... I first noticed her when she was with the Saddletramps.
