Michael Jackson will attempt to Sue Eminem...

Saw this on another site. I don't know where the guy got it from but apparently MJ is going to file suet(sp?) against Eminem.

<i>Michael Jackson will allegedly sue rapper Eminem over his new music video, which mocks the Thriller star.

The Just Lose It promo features Eminem dressed as Jackson, losing his cosmetically enhanced nose, jumping on a bed with young children, being vomited on by the real Eminem and dousing his flaming hair by sticking his head down a toilet.

Jackson has branded the video "disrespectful" and is determined to have it banned, reports Britain's Daily Sport newspaper.
"The Jackson family feels the video is demeaning and disrespectful. Michael is very displeased and doesn't want it shown," a Jackson spokesperson said.

A source close to the 46-year-old said, "The entire video is a send-up of Michael Jackson. Michael is very upset and is going crazy over it. Don't be surprised if he sues over this."

"He is moonwalking and has greasy hair. Eminem's hair catches on fire, just like Michael's did in the famous Pepsi commercial. He runs into a public toilet and douses the flames in a toilet."</i>

I'm pretty sure he'll lose this lawsuit because it's somewhat of a parody. Either way this isn't really the wisest choice to make. I'll see if I can find an actual link to the story.

Asta!!

I am tired of seeing Eminem making a career out of defamation and vulgarity, especially in his case, because that is what made him popular, and it wasn't what he originally set out with. He had a brilliant streak around 8 Mile where he did some really good stuff, and made really good points, which I actually enjoyed. Anybody who can make fun of Everlast ought to have his skinny white ass beat to within inches of his life.

I wonder if MJ would settle with Eminem for some cuddling time. I don't care for either artist, not sure which one I dislike more but MJ needs to get over it. If you're going to look like a freak and do questionable things then you are going to be made fun of. And kudos for MJ for making me want to see this video now.

Agreed. Eminem used to be a very good rapper, but now he's the very pop star he used to mock. Hopefully, his new album bombs.

He might be able to go the "defamation of character" route. I don't know who I'd root for in this case, except for perhaps a draw where they are both removed from the public eye.

Ananova - Jackson Set To Sue Eminem Over Video
Quote:
Michael Jackson is poised to sue Eminem over the rapper's new video which depicts the superstar playing with young children, according to reports.

The video for Eminem's new single Just Lose It also pokes fun at Jacko's plastic surgery and an incident when his hair caught fire filming a commercial 20 years ago.

Eminem appears made up as Jackson in the Thriller star's trademark red leather jacket and trousers.

In one scene his nose falls off, and Eminem raps: "Come here little kiddie, on my lap, guess who's back with a brand new rap. And I don't mean rap as in a case of child molestation."

It ends with Eminem's Jacko sitting on a bed with kids bouncing up and down behind him.

The Daily Star said Jackson is considering legal action if the rapper does not scrap the promo.

Jackson's spokesman said: "The Jackson family feels the video is demeaning and disrespectful and hopes Eminem will pull it.

"Michael is very displeased and doesn't want it shown."

The video was aired on MTV an VH1 for the first time at the weekend.
I wonder if Cynthetiq has any info on this.

I thought about the defamation thing as well. Props on the link. I used to like Em too but lately a lot of his stuff is just been almost unlistenable be it not for the humor factor that he has sometimes. I honestly think he's extremely overrated and he gets away with saying a lot of stupid shit that doesn't really make any sense at all and no one questions it. Example..

"My middle finger won't go down, how do I wave?" - last time I checked ya didn't need to put any fingers down to wave so thats just stupid and it doesn't make any sense.

"I'm bored out of my gord, so I take a hammer and nail my foot to the floor board of my ford" - Just plain stupid.

Ya know. Asside from the fact that he can't take ANY negative critism at all for as much as he dishes out. Everyone that says "Well I don't really like it" he makes a fuckin diss record at like a little child.

Steve Harvey has revoked Eminem's Ghetto Pass!

Quote:
Steve Harvey Revokes Eminem's 'Ghetto Pass,' Video Pulled From BET
By Latisha Simmons
Date: 10/12/2004

Michael Jackson called in on Los Angeles radio station 100.3 this morning (October 12th) to voice his disapproval of the new Eminem video for his song "Just Lose It.”

In the video, Eminem plays the characters of Jackson, Madonna & MC Hammer and others.

The video shows scenes of Eminem dressed as Jackson sitting on a bed with children jumping around him.

With Jackson's recent troubles, the scenes are hitting a little too close to home for the King of Pop.

"I never had a problem with Eminem,” Jackson said during The Steve Harvey Morning Show.

Harvey also voiced his disgust with the rapper.

"Eminem has lost his ghetto pass,” Harvey declared. “We want the pass back."

Harvey said that he was is displeased at the way Eminem chose to depict the black community. He added that rappers who are afraid to say something because they don’t want to jeopardize their own careers are "cowards."
"You apologized about the comments you made before about us being ni**ers and calling black women b**ches but we don't want your apology now", Harvey fumed. (Thats actually a true story I hear about early recordings of him depicting blacks as "niggers" and black women "bitches")

In a bombshell revelation, Harvey stated that Bob Johnson, Founder and CEO of BET has decided to pull the video from BET’s rotation and will not be playing it again.

Johnson also called the Steve Harvey morning show and confirmed the video has been pulled from the BET airwaves why he had his decision.
Johnson is expected to release a statement later today about this issue.
Harvey also stated that MTV and VH1 should follow suit and pull the video as well.
Well it appears more people are mad about the new video than we thought. Maybe this will make him actually THINK before he does something in the future. Not to say he doesn't THINK before hand, he just thinks about all the wrong things like "I bet if I do this..it'll really piss people off and make em laugh." Goes to show that even Eminem has the ability to go too far.

actually, he's always released a pop-like song for his first single whenever he comes out with a new cd. Thats how it worked for his first cd, so he kept using that method. If you actually listen to his cd's, the rest of the album is quite different from the first single and really showcases his talent.

These lyrics were from his first album. He's actually matured quite a bit since then. His lyrics are more political and serious now then they were back then.

You all seem to be basing your decisions to hate eminem on his singles. As was mentioned before, he always releases an upbeat pop-like song for his first album singles. It sells it and gets people excited. Truth be told, these are usually the only songs like them on the album. You all need to check out his underground beef songs. That's where his true talent comes out.

Wow. I find it scary that so many of you support this lawsuit. Freedom of speech, freedom of expression. Like Eminem or hate him, he is doing what he gets paid to do, and he has every right to make fun of whomever he pleases. And Steve Harvey is sometimes too black for his own good. Lighten up; it's a freaking music video for chrissakes, not an in-depth retrospective about Eminem's hidden hate of black people. Give me a break. Everything doesn't have to be such a big deal all of the time.

Since music is a product it's bound by the advertising and marketing law which states that one must not speak disparagingly about marketing competitors. There's a huge diffence between mocking and bantering. Eminem is mocking Michael Jackson in this video whereas for example Weird Al is banting artists in a respectful manner. The Eminem video is a perfect example of why we need the advertising and marketing law otherwise things would easily get out of hand

You people are acting like I've never listened to any of the post Slim Shady LP albums all the way through. I listened to every single song on the Marshal Mathers LP I thought it was pretty bad. As in not good..borderline completely horribe be it not for Stan and even that one he had to take in the wrong direction. Especially the songs like "Kim" I mean anyone who thinks that song is great really needs to think about it a little more. Making a song about killing your girlfriend is just stupid. Plus his daughter will eventually grow to an age where she REALLY understands what he's talking about in those songs. I hate to think how she'll feel about it. I mean she is her mother. I listened to all of The Eminem Show as well. Equally bad but this time on a more commercial level. I mean I just think they PALE in comparison to what he's capable of.

It's simple. Eminem is childish. He wants to be able to make fun of everyone and their mother (literally) but don't you dare make fun of him. He won't have it. I heard Weird Al technicallly doesn't have to ask permission from any of these artists before making his videos but only does so out of respect to them. I don't know if this is true or not.

From weirdal.com:
Quote:
Does Al get permission to do his parodies?

Al does get permission from the original writers of the songs that he parodies. While the law supports his ability to parody without permission, he feels it's important to maintain the relationships that he's built with artists and writers over the years. Plus, Al wants to make sure that he gets his songwriter credit (as writer of new lyrics) as well as his rightful share of the royalties.

What do the original artists think of the parodies?

Most artists are genuinely flattered and consider it an honor to have Weird Al parody their work. Some groups (including Nirvana) claim that they didn't realize that they had really "made it" until Weird Al did a parody of them!

What about Coolio? I heard that he was upset with Al about "Amish Paradise."

That was a very unfortunate case of misunderstanding between Al's people and Coolio's people. Short version of the story: Al recorded "Amish Paradise" after being told by his record label that Coolio had given his permission for the parody. When Al's album came out, Coolio publicly contended that he had never given his blessing, and that he was in fact very offended by the song. To this day we’re not exactly sure who got their facts wrong, but Al sincerely apologizes to Coolio for the misunderstanding.

Have any artists ever turned Al down for a parody?

Even though most recording artists really do have a pretty good sense of humor, on a few very rare occasions Al has been denied permission to do a parody. Actually, the only artist to turn Al down consistently over the years has been the Artist Formerly Known As The Artist Formerly Known As Prince. Go figure.

Is there going to be a music video for Poodle Hat?

It seems very unlikely. As has been widely reported in the media, Al was planning to do a video for “Couch Potato” (his parody of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”). Unfortunately, even though Eminem was okay with Al having the parody on his album, he denied his permission for Al to make a music video for the song.
Notice how we haven't heard anything out of Coolio since he insulted Weird Al? I'm hoping this move is the death of Eminem's career as well.

My sister claims she's heard a parody song of Billy Jean done by Eminem on the radio. She quoted some of the lyrics and I think they were "Boys in jeans are not my lovers/Theres just this girl who says that I touched her son!/But I touched no one!" and "Mother always told me be careful what you do/Don't go around touching young boys parts!" or some shit like that. I haven't heard it but it sounds ridiculously stupid. But she thinks it's really funny. I doubt doubt it could make me chuckle but I wish he would stop wasting his time and talent on bullshit songs and litter his albums with them.
