Anyone else out there a fan of Rammstein?

I've seen their name brought up, but never really seen a thread on Rammstein. If you do like them, what do you think of "Mein Teil" and "Amerika", the new singles off of the upcoming album Reise, Reise? Feel free to post your opinions on all of Rammsteins albums and/or singles and the work of other German bands if you feel like it (ex. - Oomph, Stahlhammer, Megaherz).

I'm a big fan of Rammstein. The Germans are about the best in the world at industrial metal, and Rammstein is probably the best in Germany. I'm a bit out of the musical loop over here so I haven't heard about their upcoming album, but then again I didn't know Dope had a new album out for almost a year after it was published. Thanks for the heads up.

Rammstein is cheesey, but so gut. Probably my favourite songs are 'Engel' and 'Asche zu Asche'. Oomph! are also brilliant, but I haven't heard them anywhere near as much.

Other good German bands: Das Ich, Lacrimosa

I love Rammstein!!! My favorite is Hierate Mich (which translates to "Marry Me"). My German friend told me that not as many people listen to Rammstein in Germany as do in America, just an interesting tidbit. I love their super-compressed, tight, deep guitar tone.

They put on one HELL of a show.

I saw them at a radio station's summer concert out here in the Dallas area... wow. It was pretty damn impressive.

Yes, I am a big fan of Rammstein. Heard "Mein Teil" and "Amerika." Mein Teil was brilliant, the chorus at the begining and everything. Amerika has a good rhythm, and a catchy phrase. I guess this new album it seems, will have "A more organic feel" as Richard put it. Really looking forward to Reise Reise which btw will be coming out in September 27, in Germany, not sure about the American release date though.

I agree, Mein Teil and Amerika are awesome!! And I can't believe there wasn't a Rammstein thread before!! These guys are so awesome!! Their shows are all about fire, metal and mayhem. Man, there's too many songs to reccomend, but you can't go wrong with the Live aus berlin and Sehnsucht cd. Their cover of "stripped" is damn smooth too.

Yes, most people I know see them as too cheesy and musically unimaginative.

I always wondered, do you know what they sing? sp many americans seem to love them but curious if they all know what Rammstein are singing about.

I agree with you 100%!!! I personally don't pay attention to the lyrics of a lot of songs now. I just want to listen to something that makes me move. I think the appeal is the emotion coming from the music, which makes people want to react to it. It's just something different from alot of the rock music here, and the language difference is definetly a big reason for that. And the fire. Can't forget about the fire.

Old stuff and stageshows were excellent, new stuff is very eh. Somehow a stageshow that involves nothing but tons of fire is cool, but one that shows graphic homoerotic and pissing scenes isn't. Those are the last 2 shows I saw.

I first heard a couple of Rammstein tracks on the Lost Highway soundtrack and was intrigued. I bought their first two CDs. From the little bit of German I can understand, the lyrics seem rather lightweight, but I do like the effect of the voices and the music. One of the images a couple of their songs evoked was Klingon drinking songs.

I know a little german, and from what I can get out of it, plus what some others that I know that speak the language have told me, their lyrics are pretty wild. I haven't seen them live, but I have the "Live Aus Berlin" DVD and I love it. Would jump at the opportunity to see a live show.

from the little of their lyrics that I've heard translated, I'm not too impressed.
that being said, I love their music. Industrial metal is something I really enjoy, and I think that they do a great job of it. They also have some of the coolest music videos I've ever seen. I've enjoyed all of their albums enough that it's hard to pick a favourite, but I'd probably have to go with Mutter.
as far as the New album goes, I've been listening to it for the last 8+ hours solid, and it's awesome. Amerika and Mein Tell are good, and I'm really enjoying Moskau and Reise Reise.

you are right.but as i said,in america, noone understands the lyrics.their music sucks, but they do a good show, and it has this kind of "exotic touch",it's like i'm listening to finish music that finish poeple don't like, but i like it because of the strange words.
if you like industrial music,i think you could like rammstein, but i can't understandy why they are that popular, even in germany.if every american rammstein fan would understand the lyrics of "amerika",i think they'll loose many american fans.

only time I tolerate them is on the Lost Highway OST, just because I <3 that whole album.

hmm... In my opinion their music is the most intelligently created music, some of the their "intelligent" would be Spieluhr, Rein Raus, and Mein Herz Brennt. There are many more, but I can't list them all. BTW I don't understand German and the vocals are just part of a musical element for me. Although I have heard that they are very cryptic in their lyrics and therefore come out sound stupid.

I agree that the lyrics don't matter much. I just really like their sound, and the vocals are integral to it. Without them, they wouldn't be Rammstein.

Exactly. Music, to me, is part of an escape from the nonsense of the world.

I disagree with people who call the music simple. The layered uses of the sound effects and varied instruments (like the harmonica on the new disc) that are blended perfectly with the melody. That's what I love, that fact that the vocals are so abrasive, the guitar sound so thick, yet most of the tunes are friggen melodic beyond belief.

And the reason their lyrics often don't make sense is because some of them can't be translated directly into English because of things like German slang and puns. The band has pretty much said this themselves. That's why their English versions of Du Hast and Angel aren't sung as word for word translations. They changed some of the words when they wrote it in English.

This website is pretty informative, and also has loose translations of the lyrics: http://herzeleid.com/

I like the new album. It kinda tails off at the end with the last 3 songs or so though as they are mid-tempo or slower. My favorite track is definitely "Los", kick ass song from top to bottom. "Keine Lust," "Dalai Lama" and "Moskau" would be my next favorites.
