Audioscrobbler
My friend pointed me to this wonderful website today. You download a plugin for whatever media player you use to listen to music, and it logs what you listen to, when you listen, and how often you listen to it. After you've logged 100 songs on the website, a list of "neighbors" becomes available to you -- these are people that listen to similar music.
Anyway, here is a link to the website for anyone who might be interested in such a thing. www.audioscrobbler.com Here is a link to my stats page: www.audioscrobbler.com/user/sonofatruckload And here is a link to my friend's stats page, to give you a better understanding of what it looks like when you've used this thing for a while: http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/Steimes Hope someone enjoys this as much as I do! Oh, and if you sign up, perhaps post your user name so the rest of us can see what you're listening to. |
I've seen that site, I didn't know how good it worked though, so I ignored it. intrigued me though, maybe I'll check it out again.
|
Do you somehow get to listen to their library? Or just be able to view it? I am having trouble grasping the significance..

Also, there seems to be some way to get your own radio station that will stream whatever you're listening to.
|
audioscrobbler is bodatious.
rawk on. |
|
radio
last.fm (that's http://www.last.fm) is the site with the radio service. You can either get radio that plays songs LIKE your own or radio that plays only your songs (this personalized radio is free for 30 days after sign-up but becomes pay after that).
Quite supernifty. |
Doesn't really show my true music interests, since I usually don't play my tracks through my computer.

most of the crappy pop at the bottom was not listened to by me. i have taken appropriate measures so it doesn't happen again.
yeah, from your page, we seem to have some similar musical tastes. i do really like the go! team. glad you do too. i haven't been able to find any lyrics...the music is so layered i can't quite make out all the words. it sounds like they are leading a pep rally, so i'm interested to see what they are actually saying. you should see the video for ladyflash if you haven't. http://www.memphis-industries.com/ladyflash.html |
Well, here's mine:
http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/nefir It sounds like a very interesting concept, and I'd love to see what recommendations it has for me... FWIW, I had some trouble getting Winamp to read the tags from my FLAC files properly and it turned out to be a problem with the recent versions of the FLAC decoder. Had to switch in_flac.dll to 1.0.7 beta. |
just started...
http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/grendel99/ interesting concept, but they didn't have a plugin for my regular player. so i guess i'll use windows media player for a while while i try this out... |
yuk, i don't like using media player at all... maybe i'll give winamp a try.
nevermind... i found the setting in media player i was looking for. sounds much better now... |
Been on this for a while, its a quality site when everything is working correctly

w00t for AudioScrobbler, damn good way 2 get into new music :)
Also introduced me to MusicBrainz , good way too tag ur music Heres Mine :) |
are any of you getting any recommendations? so far (1700+ tracks) i got nothin' besides a dashboard confessional google ad. i guess i wasn't expecting much more than a radiohead suggestion though.
|
Actually the coolest part is not audioscrobbler, but last.fm. It sets up a custom internet radio station for you that plays songs from your neighbors' collections. If you have an audioscrobbler account you already have a last.fm account. I listen to it almost exclusivly, has gotten me into a lot of cool bands I wouldn't have ever heard of otherwise.
My account Edit: Though now it seems both last.fm and audioscrobbler.com are down. Anyone know what happened? |
I just got onto this the other day, when i heard that audioscrobbler had changed their site, so i just signed up 2 days ago.
The new site is (has been moved to) www.last.fm Looks very good though, and i'd be interested in seeing my own listening patterns and discovering new music :D |
oh wow. i've had this since april and haven't seen this thread here yet - until now !
here's mine - http://www.last.fm/user/keyshawn/ *Off to compare the new layout* |
