ipod Question...

ok i got about 11.21GB on my computer so far and thats hardly half my collection THAT I LISTEN TO, i really wanna get a ipod because all of my MP3 players just havnt been doing the job for me, i was wondering if anyone knew of a cheaper ipod which would hold around 15-20GB and where i could find it.

Are you looking for an iPod or an iPod alternative? Creative makes the Jukebox series, some of which will hold 20-40gb or more, and be $100-$200 cheaper than the iPod will.

Example : I just looked at bestbuy.com for reference. 40Gb iPod will run about 400 bucks. a 40GB Creative player will only cost $270.

Im not sure i understand the question, but yes you can pick up mp3 players that will hold a ton of songs, and yes there are many cheaper alternatives to the iPod.

Yeah, there are plenty of alternatives to the iPod. I have heard bad things about most of them's reliability (that has to be bad grammar), but as I don't have one, I can't comment too much on it.

The thing I have noticed with my iPod is that while I have more music than I can fit onto it, you can still fit an absolute shit-ton of music on that thing. More than you can listen to in a sitting, and because its easy to swap music, its not a bother to just load up different music when you feel like it.

those new Hi-MD mini disk players by sony are nice too. They hold about 40-50 full cd's on one mini disc and they dont skip like mp3 players with a harddrive in them do.

dont laugh at the newb but what the hell is an ipod??? i thought it was an apple only thing??

^^^
an iPod is the Apple brand Hard-Drive based music player. aka mp3 player (though it can play other formats).
Other companies also make these players, but they are not called iPod. They get other stupid names like Zen Touch and Nomad. ;)

I have NEVER had my iPod skip on me. EVER. I think the buffer on it is something like 40 minutes =P .. I take it running and hiking alot too, and no problem. Maybe cheaper HD based players skip, but I don't hear of it happening very often with iPods. On the flip, I decided the MiniDisc player I owned was way too fragile to take on any real adventures.

i higly highly highly recomend the rio karma...google it.

its about 250 bucks and holds 20 gigs...if you wait you could probably get it for cheaper or you could get the new 40 gig version

redarrow 09-06-2004 06:14 PM

So the only thing you can put on a iPod is music? Or can you store movies, programs, and other files too (obviously unable to view them but just for storage)?

^ its just like a hard disk, yes you can put any kind of file on it

I recommend this, too. It's got support for Ogg Vorbis and Flak.

I have a 30 gig Nomad Zen Xtra (dumbass name, I know), and I've had no real problems with it, and have quite enjoyed its performance. Granted I haven't gone hiking through the wilderness with it, but its lived through several plane rides and hundreds of miles of car travel.

Well, you've got a bunch of iPod alternative posts here. But to be more iPod specific, Apple has been making 15-20GB iPods for quite a while now. Still are, actually. So you can either buy a new one for about $300, or you can buy a used one off of eBay or some such deal. Actually, I'd wager that most used iPods would be in the 15 or 20GB range anyways. Take a look.

PS I've a 15GB iPod with which I could never do without. I love the little guy.
