Best album of the 1st 1/2 of 2004?

Tomorrow marks the halfway point (month-wise) of 2004, so what was your favorite album so far this year?

Remember, the album has to have a release date between Jan 1 and June 30 2004

There are a lot comming out in the next 2 months though that i'm really looking forward too, as well as many that came out so far, but not as much.

silent_jay 06-29-2004 12:54 PM

Velvet Revolver- Contraband

choskins 06-29-2004 12:55 PM

Probably the Beasties. I will have to remember what all has come out.

KWSN 06-29-2004 01:04 PM

The Streets - A Grand Don't Come for Free

Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose

Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News

Paterson Hood - Killers and Stars

Morrissey - You Are the Quarry

Those are at the top of my list, in that order.

FoolThemAll 06-29-2004 01:37 PM

Mason Jennings - Use Your Voice

00111000 06-29-2004 02:19 PM

Clutch - Blast Tyrant

magnum_xxxl 06-29-2004 03:40 PM

It just came out today, but I heard a couple of songs @ their concert a week ago:

RUSH - Feedback

dylanmarsh 06-29-2004 05:34 PM

Yeah, the new Beasties Boys' album is pretty fucking cool. That's my vote with Velvet Revolver a some-what close second.

either

killswitch engage - the end of heartache

or

clutch - blast tyrant

trickyy 06-29-2004 09:02 PM

i guess id say talkie walkie by air. i listen to that more than any other recent album.

best newish band would be li'l cap'n travis

i also like releases by wilco, sixtoo, modest mouse, dj shadow, and (still digesting) sonic youth. haven't heard all of contraband yet.

Stompy 06-30-2004 03:10 AM

*trying to remember what all came out*

Either:

1. Fantomas - Delirium Cordia
2. Velvet Revolver - Contraband

Jadedfox 06-30-2004 03:34 AM

Air - Talkie Walkie
Orbital - The Blue Album

Great stuff on both of them.

Hat 06-30-2004 07:02 AM

Franz Ferdinand self titled.

Booray 06-30-2004 10:58 AM

Out of the stuff that comes to mind that I've heard (there's a lot of stuff out there I haven't heard any of):

Wilco - A Ghost is Born
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Patterson Hood - Killers and Stars
David Cross - It's Not Funny (okay, it's a comedy album, not a music album, but it's got some moments that got bigger laughs out of me than anything has in months, so it makes my list)

skinnymofo 06-30-2004 11:50 AM

Monster Magnet- Monolithic Baby
although i admit i havent heard other full albums out from this year besides the singles

sherpahigh 06-30-2004 12:18 PM

Velvet Revolver followed by...

Beastie Boys
Modest Mouse
Monster Magnet
Franz Ferdinand

Tophat665 06-30-2004 12:29 PM

Blue Öyster Cult hasn't come out with an album yet this year, so obviously, the answer is: There is not best album of the first half of 2004. ;)

what?!? They're putting out an album this year? I figured at best it would be in 05'. You have a link to anything about this?

Memnoch 07-06-2004 10:24 AM

Saw it on an MTV2 news brief a few weeks back. They're currently in the studio recording, and remarked that the album would be done well before the end of the year. The reporter did, however, comment that they may wait until January/February 2005, so as not to get lost in "the christmas shuffle."

KWSN 07-06-2004 12:42 PM

As far as second half predictions...

The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives
Head Automatica - Decadence

Booray 07-06-2004 01:15 PM

I'm positive Drive By Truckers' The Dirty South will make my second half of '04 list. Out on Aug. 24th
