Best album of the 1st 1/2 of 2004?
Tomorrow marks the halfway point (month-wise) of 2004, so what was your favorite album so far this year?
Remember, the album has to have a release date between Jan 1 and June 30 2004 |

There are a lot comming out in the next 2 months though that i'm really looking forward too, as well as many that came out so far, but not as much. |
Velvet Revolver- Contraband
|
Probably the Beasties. I will have to remember what all has come out.
|
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come for Free
Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News Paterson Hood - Killers and Stars Morrissey - You Are the Quarry Those are at the top of my list, in that order. |
Mason Jennings - Use Your Voice
|
Clutch - Blast Tyrant
|
It just came out today, but I heard a couple of songs @ their concert a week ago:
RUSH - Feedback |
Yeah, the new Beasties Boys' album is pretty fucking cool. That's my vote with Velvet Revolver a some-what close second.
|
|
Pain of Salvation - 12:5

Franz Ferdinand self titled.
|
Out of the stuff that comes to mind that I've heard (there's a lot of stuff out there I haven't heard any of):
Wilco - A Ghost is Born Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News Patterson Hood - Killers and Stars David Cross - It's Not Funny (okay, it's a comedy album, not a music album, but it's got some moments that got bigger laughs out of me than anything has in months, so it makes my list) |
Monster Magnet- Monolithic Baby
although i admit i havent heard other full albums out from this year besides the singles |
My top three for the first half of 2004 are:
#1 http://ak.buy.com/db_assets/large_im...9/61010799.jpg #2http://ak.buy.com/db_assets/large_im...9/61004159.jpg #3http://ak.buy.com/db_assets/large_im...5/61007735.jpg |
woot for the hip
|
Velvet Revolver followed by...
Beastie Boys Modest Mouse Monster Magnet Franz Ferdinand |
Blue Öyster Cult hasn't come out with an album yet this year, so obviously, the answer is: There is not best album of the first half of 2004. ;)

Saw it on an MTV2 news brief a few weeks back. They're currently in the studio recording, and remarked that the album would be done well before the end of the year. The reporter did, however, comment that they may wait until January/February 2005, so as not to get lost in "the christmas shuffle."
|
As far as second half predictions...
The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives Head Automatica - Decadence |
I'm positive Drive By Truckers' The Dirty South will make my second half of '04 list. Out on Aug. 24th
