Who/What band do you think does the best rendition of this band? I'd have to say I prefer the G'N'F'N'R' version over the original.

Discuss.

GnR did an excellent cover, but I still do like the original Bob Dylan one.

I think it's a terrible song by all parties, so I can't really vote. One of the most repetitive songs ever

The Bon Jovi cover of it is good, though the origional is the best from the one I've heard.

Seems to me I heard a woman cover it in the past 5-10 years, but I can't remember who. Or I might be imagining it. It was really bluesy and raw, Janis Joplin-ish if you will (but clearly not her).

Little help?

The woman singer's name was Axl Rose.

Thanks a lot folks, you've been great!

Warren Zevon's version off his final album, "The Wind."

He called Dylan to ask if he could use it. Dylan said only if you let me sing some of your songs (Dylan was touring at the time). The emotion that came out during that song from a man who was facing his own death is awesome. The Eagles as background singers were also great.

Dusty Springfield, that's who I was thinking of earlier. Now I just wish I could find a copy of that track

and yes, the GnR version was pretty comical

I know I'm gonna hate myself for saying this later, but Avril's version is pretty damn good...especially live...

Try not to hate it just because its her...

I'm going with Dylan. Can't say I'm a fan of the hair metal, though the GNR version ain't bad.

Sorry, I didn't even think to vote for Dylan. I thought it was a poll about covers for some reason. Including Dylan, I would vote:

1) Dylan
2) Zevon
3) GNR
4) Elvis Costello
5) Dead
6) Clapton
7) Ladysmith Black Mambazo

That is all I have heard (other than Wycleff Jean, who doesn't deserve a vote).

I love the Clapton version.

I did not enjoy Randy Crawford's, the live video is just scary.

I'm really, really late to this thread, but the 80s band, The Alarm, did the best version IMO.

It's on an EP that I can't find anywhere. Bought it in Germany the first time, but it's gone...

Uncle Tupelo did a great electric version before they went totally country (~1991). Back when Jay Farrar still liked to torture an SG through a Marshall. It can be found out there in taper-land..........
