Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
Anyone else here heard any of this album? For those of you who don't know, Loretta Lynn is a very famous country musician, and one of the idols of Jack and Meg White of the White Stripes. After going on tour with Loretta and dedicating the album White Blood Cells to her, Jack and Loretta decided to make an album together, or rather it would be Loretta writing and performing the material with Jack producing. Well, it's very easy to tell Jack has huge influence there, a lot of the songs have that raw quality of the Stripes' music but it comes without tarnishing Loretta's country sound. I think it sounds incredible. I absolutely love it, it has something for almost anyone. Apparently they've struck a deal to have Jack produce Loretta's next two albums as well. Awesome, I say, because this is great.
Anyone else listen to this? Comments? Concerns?

I've not heard it, but I'm definately gonna keep an ear out for it. I really like the sound that the 'stripes put out, so having Jack produce would probably work out really well.

i bought this album last week since in the last few years i;ve really gotten into classic country as well as really loving the white stripes (jack -- CALL ME.) and i'm suitablly impressed. the raw hard guitar matched with lynn's country twang is amazing. i expecially like, "portland oregon", "have mercy" and "mrs. leroy brown". some of the other songs might be too country for you rock folks out there but the're certainly wroth some genre jumping.

I'm not a big "traditional country" fan, so this album didn't do it for me - however, I can truly appreciate all that Loretta Lynn has done and her talent, so of course this is a good thing. There's part of me that's bitter about it - that it takes someone like Jack White to get people to realize that we're completely ignoring our LIVING LEGENDS - but Jack's intentions are so honorable that it really doesn't wind up being that big a deal. God bless him for knowing his roots and celebrating them. More artists should be doing this.
I just love the fact that one of her songs is called "You're The Reason Our Kids Are Ugly."
