I'm not sure if that link is the same as this one, and I'm sorry if it is -- this is a link of a man doing human beatbox and playing a harmonica at the same time, and it is insanely good.

Banginblaz 03-20-2004 09:02 AM

That not the same, but yeah, thats fantastic!

That is awesome! I just wonder if all that spittle is good for the microphones.

damn, this is pretty impressive and i'm only halfway in. if he can keep this up for another 3 minutes, that's great. and if he can pull a rahzel and beatbox AND sing at the same time, then he gets a check plus. oh wait, there it goes. well, that's good, but i get the feeling he's pulling his entire set from other people. i mean, the "if your mother only knew" was like ripped straight from rahzels version. and the metallic thing was done before too.

and rahzel did it much, much better :)

not that this guy doesn't have skills........I remember seeing this clip a year ago and thinking how awesome it was. but even then it was still a rahzel rip off :)

wordssmith22 03-20-2004 09:15 PM

speaking of that rahzel stuff, does anyone know how people pull that off? a kid that i've tutored gave me a little demonstration but it didn't seem as, for lack of a better word, simultaneous as rahzel or this copy. how is this physically possible???? bonus points to anyone who explains the tibetan throat singing thing too

Ya, I saw this one already- thought i posted it here, but I posted it in an electronic music forum. It's so cool.

the way rahzel does it is pretty simple (yet extremely hard to master). you can tell the way he does it if you listen to "If Your Mother Only Knew" over and over and over again. Basically, when he does the "beat and the chorus at the same time," he is alternating between lyrics and beats at an INCREDIBLY fast rate. He isn't actually doing the lyrics and the beat at the same time, just alternating between both really fast. You can tell at the "only knew" part of "If your mother only knew." It's almost as if he is saying "knew" twice, but he is just breaking it into two parts because he can't say it while doing the beat at the same time. The beginning part of that line he has mastered though.

haha! i know that kid! his name is cory, we use to go to school together!

Wow. That is some of the craziest shit I've heard in a while. I didn't know humans could fucking do that.

Well, over on the website with one of my favorite names of all time, got spit?, there's the "Ask Wes" page. Wes Carroll is one of the best 'mouth drummers' out there (the goal is to sound like a physical drum set, which is different from beatboxing, but similar). Wes explains "If Your Mother Only Knew" as follows:
Quote:

Re: "the beat and the chorus at the same time": "Bif your mPother BonBlPy knew B .. P .. B BB P .." It's really just the same old 'use the illusion' trick, done really well. If you listen REALLY closely, you'll note that little pieces of consonants are missing from the words where the drum sounds happen. Your brain fills in the sounds it expects. Cool, eh?
(Same think as Redjake was saying, but a little more detail.)
