worked "as advertised" last night : ) it had been a while since we had put it on... now i want to buy us the highly touted portishead - dummy album with hopes it will have similar properties. (edited for cohesiveness) c_b

let me know how it goes - my only exposure to portishead was their live in NY album, and i didn't catch on for me back then... then again, that was at least a few years ago...

I realize no one knows these bands, but:
Project Pitchfork - Daimonion Assemblage 23 - Failure E-Nomine - Mitternacht If you only try ONE song... from these albums, Give E-Nomine - Mitternacht a try (I like the extended version) It's in german, and as long as you don't speak german, the song is awesome. If you do speak german, you might end up giggleing because the lyrics are so cheesy. |

D'Angelo is great. So is Bob Marley turned down kinda low. Ella Fitzgerald has been a favorite at times, too. Boy From Ipanema (her version of Girl From Ipanema) has some fun rhythms to thrust to. Also, Raffi is pretty hot.
Don't worry, that last one's a joke. :-) |

Gotta agree with the Portishead suggestions and if you like that get the cd "Filigree & Shadow" by This Mortal Coil. Starts with slow sensual songs and gradually the songs pick up in tempo until you get to a furious rythmic beat. I am sure you get the idea. My wife and I have been getting it on to this since we were boyfriend and girlfriend and we were playing the lp on the record player.

Lovage - Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By.
A lot of the tracks are pretty goofy and tongue-in-cheek, but Jennifer Charles (of Elysian Fields) has that sort of husky, sultry voice that I love. She reminds of of Martina from Tricky: her voice is very, very sensual and erotic -- almost as if she were ready to have an orgasm with every word spoken.
