first record i got: rolling stones, out of our heads and a strange sing-and-play along with a hammond organist doing beatles covers.
first that i bought: no idea--i am sure that i would now find it appalling.

It was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure it was Songs from the Wood by Jethro Tull, when I was 10 or 12.

The first album I ever owned was a cassette of the Eurythmics' Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) that my sister gave me for Christmas one year. The first CD I ever bought was The Best of Blondie. I don't have either of them now.

Why is the world in love again,
Why is it marching hand in hand?
Why are the ocean levels rising up?
It's a brand new album for 1990,
They Might Be Giants' brand new album FLOOD!

Asia - Asia

I bought the tape because I liked the Dragon on the cover, and the music turned out to be really good also.

I remember playing it in my backyard as I climbed our tree as a kid.

Before that I had some Disney sing-a-long tape, but I don't count that because I didn't buy it out of interest, but was given it instead.

My first tape was The Cars, "Heartbreak City"; long since melted in the Arizona heat.

My first CD was Ice-T, "Original Gangsta"; still have the CD and still cruise downtown Tucson to "Escape from the Killing Fields"
