I need some songs with some Bass!

Basically, I got some new speakers that have some killer bass.

I want some songs to go with them, and I need some suggestions. I have tons of CD's so I can use as many songs as possible. Thanks!

There was a short fad known as 'Miami Bass' in the late 80's - early 90's. The 2-live-crew were probably the most succesful group to emerge from it.

Some truly awful tunes that were practically un-playable on your average sound system but it should give your new speakers a good workout.

I remember the Dr.Dre song "Ackrite" having some pretty thunderous bass beats.

I'd bet Primus would also sound pretty cool.

I would also try the song by Underworld called "Born Slippy." Those are mighty beats in that song, I tell you what.

KWSN 01-20-2004 08:36 PM

Tool - Schism has nice bass in it... NOFX - The Decline has great bass in parts... a lot of RHCP songs...

I'm talking about basslines as in the actual instrument btw

Tophat665 01-20-2004 08:42 PM

Hmm, I was thinking Tool too, but that DaDump DaDUMp at the beginning of Sober was what sprang to mind for me. Red Hot Chili Peppers - By the Way, or pretty much anything where Flea just goes Berserk. Primus - The Antipop. Some of Yes has some good Bass work, Siberian Khatru, frinstance, but you'r looking for more sustained.

Aha! 7 Nation Army! That's the song you want. (By the White Stripes or the Strokes or one of those semi-androgynous punk wannabes that, to their credit, occasionally put out some excellent music.)

Other things you might want to try:
Parliament/Funkadelic Live (Earth Tour)
About half of Cake's songs have great funk Bass grooves that you really don't notice because everyone's busy trying to figure out what to make of the music overall. Talking Heads are like that to a lesser degree.

Pink Floyd. An ego like Roger Waters attached tio a Bass? You're going to hear it. Same deal with Rush, but less ego and more instrumental talent.

And I second the ultimate bass test if you can find it. Friend of mine used to play that on his system in his truck. Now that made the air vibrate hardcore.

jwells777 02-01-2004 10:25 PM

All depends on what type of bass you are looking for...Try downloading Techmaster PEB:Ultimate Subwoofer Test if you really want to put your speakers their paces. If you just want to see what they can do, you may try generating your own test sweep from say 10 Hz through 200 Hz. If you don't know how to generate one, I am sure you could find one on the internet somewhere.

gorilla 02-03-2004 03:17 PM

Lightning Bolt is pretty fun...but if you go to see them, for the love of god wear earplugs. They damn near blew my ears out.

Liars are pretty bass-y, and they have a new album coming out soon.
