Kyuss - The innovators of the "stoner-rock" movement (which spawned other bands like Monster Magnet, Clutch, and more recently Queens of the Stone Age, which has former Kyuss members in it).
Songs I recommend: Asteroid, 50 Million Year Trip, Demon Cleaner, Catamaran. |

And now to add my own....
Lacuna Coil, although they are becoming a lot more well known now. The Gathering Tapping the Vein (I've got a thing about metal female singers lately) Candlemass - waiting to see them live then I can die happy. Genitorturers - mmmmmmmmm, S&M Metal, been front row center to ?7? of their shows. Venom - the original Black Metal band, another I am dying to see live.

1. my sig- Electronic rock, sounds like an evolved linkin park.
2. Neutral Milk Hotel- Good indie music, very original. Oh, and edit to add a few I found on the first page- Indexcase (Great live), Frank Black, and Apex Theory, who were on the verge of hitting it big with their last album. I saw them with Linkin Park and I must say that their performance was better. Oh, And Hed Pe's Broke album is worth a look.

I'd like to add the band Eleven to this list. Extremely underrated and underplayed. Great fucking stuff.

Things mentioned... -
Modest Mouse - awesome indie rock, can't recommend them enough. I'd get The Moon and Antarctica to start, i think its their best album. The Mars Volta - torn lace summed it up... fast and loud. With some jazz fusion in there too. The Shins - happy music, not happy lyrics, awesome nonetheless. Mentioned in passing... At the Drive-In - Group who broke up into The Mars Volta and Sparta, punk-prog sound

Gothic//operatic Rock, musically solid, I love the guitar work, but what really sells it for me is the lead singer. I love good female singers, and IMHO, she's one of the best. Rustcycle Techno with guitars. I don't really know how to classify him, but it's damn good. Android Lust I'm sure that somebody could tell me what catagory she fits into, but I don't know it. I guess it's a kind of electronica, but beyond that.... anyway, to quote myself, it's damn good.

For the Modust Mouse reccomenders: They're geting tons of playtime in Dallas/Fort Worth on 102.1 - the most popular "alternative" station. THe band "Dispatch" may be more popular in other parts of the the U.S., but around here noones heard of them. They'd have to be my reccomendation. |
