Rap Mix
Basically, I have ZERO knowledge of rap, however, in college, when i have parties at my apartment most people want to listen to that,(not metal as i would prefer) so, i need to get a decent mix of music. About the only song i like of rap is 2pac, california love...so, give me some good songs here. Nothing to gangsta etc. Thanks. :)
*sorry if this has been covered before, however, w/ the search option down, i can't search... |
hehe ok then yourp robably asking for mainstream stuff. Pretty much get those "bling bling" guys such as
-Ludacris -50 Cent -Snoop Dogg -Chingy -Ying Yang Twins -Outkast -Tupac of course :P -Tech9ne <-- one of my favorites, really good imo Alot of really popular songs for all of these artists, can be heard just about anywhere :P |
if u want good rap, check out deltron 3030 or jedi mind trick or outkast or nerd. that other crap is just commercial bs.

Metal is always a safe alternative tho! |
If you want to get some compliments on the music, and avoid the 50 cent crap, get some Atmosphere, which is just amazing stuff. Also, Jurassic 5 is just too damn cool to leave out.

Old school..............
House of Pain KRS 1 Run DMC Public Enemy Salt and Pepa Queen Latifa Ice T NWA Dr. Dre Cypress Hill |
Go buy Funkmaster Flex : The Mix Tape Volume 1. It will cold rock a party for 60 minutes with no interruptions...
The Source Hip Hop Hits Volume 5 is the dopest of that annual collection as well... |
I agree with Tony, Funkmaster Flex's cds are all good, I'm partial to volume four.
The bling bling stuff sucks musically, but a lot of it makes good music to party to, just no ying yang twins or lil jon. Ludacris and Snoop are your best bling bling options, they do it the best. For some non bling, go with Outkast. |
These are some pretty good CD's\songs\artists
Eminem is good, pretty smart kid (Jay Z & Eminem - Renegade) DJ Green Lantern - Mixtapes Invasion part 2 2pac & Outlaws - Still I rise Ice Cube - Greatest Hits Capone-n-Noreaga Dr. Dre NWA Neptunes Nerd Notorius BIG |
there's some amazing stuff out there, i particulary like the stuff in the underground scene. if you listen to metal, you'll probably dig Atmosphere as was mentioned above. most of the kids at his shows are indie and punk kids... he draws an intersting crowds. great stuff!!

Outkast - almost all of it is good.
Eminem - But I'd steer clear of songs like "Kim" Jay-Z - Especially Vol. 2 Hard Knock Life Tupac - Just pick up something like All Eyez on Me and you're set. Black Eyed Peas - Ok, more R&B than rap, but they're still damn good. Busta Rhymes - has some good stuff for parties. Ruff Ryders - Just steer clear of DMX. The rest are pretty good, Twista, Yung Wun, Jadakiss, Drag-On, LOX. Joe Budden - One of the best new guys, better than 50, G-Unit and all of them. Nate Dogg - Straight R&B, but is still great. Shyne - It's a damn shame that jackass Combs got him locked up. Xzibit - Especially Restless, has some great beats. |
Original Pirate Material.

Let us not forget Latryx. Dunno if many people have heard of them, but if not, check out their track "Lady don't Tek No" and it's not about a raver girl either. That track makes me move like something else and I'm about as unrhythmic as they get!

Blackalicious (same label as Lateef and DJ Shadow) are hands-down the best hip-hop group out there right now. Smooth rhymes, intelligent lyrics, nice beats, even interesting/well-done collaborative efforts (Chali 2na, Saul Williams, etc).
Also A Tribe Called Quest. I'm aware of who came before them but for my money they were supremely influential on all decent hip-hop that's been released since they arrived. Again, smooth rhymes without any pretentious rap grandstanding. |
If it's party music you want I would recommend: Scratch Perverts - Badmeaningood, any of the Peanut Butter Wolf compilations or any of the DJ Yoda compilations.
There aren't many rap albums that you can play right through without wanting to skip a few tracks. |
Hey... This is the best way to find GREAT hip hop...
http://www.hot97.com/music/playlist.aspx Hot 97 is a radio station in New York, and they play the latest stuff... so if you are looking for good NEW music... thats the spot... just check every week or so for updates... hope that helps... if you need old school stuff let me know |
depends
It all depends on what you are looking for... If you are looking for hip hop stlye stuff with lyrics that actually have some meaning then Atmosphere,Jedi Mind Tricks, Cali Agents, Brother Ali,
Aesop Rock, Jurassic 5 etc. But if you are looking for popular main stream rap it would be stuff like 50 cent, Murphy Lee, Outkast, Lil Flip, Nelly, Chingy, and Ludacris. My recomondations... Hip Hop I like most everything by the artists that I mentioned and I find that most people that listen to it are the same way. Mainstream Some of the songs have better beats then others and some more popular than others. Murphy Lee What The Hook Gonna Be Shake Your Tail Feather Outkast Last Call Hey Ya Caroline Lil Flip The Way We Ball David Banner Cadillacs On 22's Ying Yang Twins Get Low Georgia Dome Grey Goose Whats Happnin Get Crunked |
Jedi Mind Tricks, most people don't know about them, but they are one of the best imo.
Outkast/Andre 300/Big Boi, Speakerbox, great album. Tupac Of course gotta have some o'that Notorious B.I.G., a must have essential in any rap collection. Usher some may think i'm carzy, but damn that bitch can sing, and if you watch any of his videos that bitch can dance. Big Tymers, i like their last album. G-Unit, may not be to your liking but they got some shit that you can go crazy to DMX same as G-Unit. |
Jurassic 5, Blackalicious, Beasties, DM and Jemini, cLOUDDEAD
fuck 50 cent. |
lotta people have covered the djx angle of this, but i gotta say rjd2 must be checked out. cannibal ox too.
old rawkus had a lotta great artists, talib kweli, mos def, pharoahe monch. check them out. quannum records has blackalicious, lateef, lyrics born, dj shadow, and lifesavas. blackalicious is really realy good, check them out. |
OK, I don't like rap as a genre or culture, but I have run across enough rap and rap like songs that I enjoy well enough that I could probably put together a rap mix. I generally get 16 to 20 songs on a CD, so let's see if I can get 18 here:
1. Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back 2. Young MC - Bust A Move 3. Eminem - Lose Yourself 4. Heavy D - We Got our Own Thing 5. Digital Undergound - Humpty Dance 6. Will Smith - Gettin' Jiggy With It 7. Beastie Boys - Intergalactic 8. Tone Loc - Funky Cold Medina 9. The Gourds covering Snoop Dog - Gin and Juice (Bluegrass cover of a rap song. Much superior to the original. Not a big fan of bluegrass either.) 10. Wierd Al Yankovic - It's All About the Pentiums (Speaks to me much more than the song it parodies, amd, to my mind, is every bit as good.) 11. Eminem - Without Me 12. Kottonmouth Kings - Discombobulated 13. PM Dawn - Paper Doll 14. Outcast - Hey Yah 15. DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince - Parents Just Don't Understand 16. NWA - Straight Outta Compton (token Gangstah selection.) 17. Kid Rock - Cowboy 18. Beastie Boys - (You Gotta) Fight for Your Right to Party Sacré Poo! That's 18. |
I'm surprised noone's mentioned Murray Head- the first white rapper.;)
Sage Francis(strange famous) is good. Buck 65 Onyx - duh duh duh, duh duh duh Ghetto boys Outkast - Atliens |
can't leave out Wu Tang Clan, Biz Markie, and the Gravediggaz!
|
Common is number 1...!
