Recent CD purchases that just kick ass

I just got Rob Zombie's Greatest Hits: Past, Present & Future and it kicks ass. It's a greatest hits style CD with a couple unreleased tracks. The best part of this by far is the DVD that's included. It has a bunch of videos including a few that were never released. I think it was worth the price just watch him in the "Dragula" video. Fucking hilarious. Anyway, great CD/DVD combo that was well worth the price.

I also got Anthrax's We've Come For You All CD. Definitely worth buying if you're a fan. "Refuse to be denied" and "Nobody knows anything" are, for lack of a better word, awesome.

What CD did you buy recently that just kicks ass and why?

James Brown - Love Power Peace.

The only live recording with the original band members. The energy in it is just amazing. I've always liked JB, but this is the first album of his that I've bought. It definitely won't be the last.

a matador records compilation
why? because there's 3 cds with cool hip music like mogwai, arab strap, cat power, sleater-kinney, etc. for only 2.99 at the cheapo bin. i <3 my local record store cheapo bin.

i also got amon tobin which is really neat electronica. not into the genre as a whole but found out about amon tobin and they're awesome. all instrumental. the type of music you might hear while browsing at a record store.

The last CD I bought was Hail to the Thief when it came out last summer. Fuck the RIAA!

But the best album I've DOWNLOADED in a while is De-Loused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta. Excellent.

Dave Matthews - "Some Devil"

I don't own a single Dave Matthews Band CD, but I can't keep his solo album out of my CD player. The bonus 5-song live acoustic CD is also unreal.

Spectre, I keep passing on the Anthrax album. I'm a marginal fan but have liked some of the newer stuff. I might have to check it out.

Anyway, some of teh new stuff I've gotten that kicked ass:

Motograter - Self titled.
- Just a great debut disk from a new band. Heavy but still very rhythmic. Some really good heavy hooks make some catchy tunes. BTW, just saw them live too, and they were fantastic!

Sevendust - Seasons
- Bought this a couple of weeks ago when it came out and I love it. I'm a littel biased because they are one of my favorite bands, but if you likes the last album, you'll love this.

Mushroomhead - XIII
- I love the constant change of tempo in a lot of their songs. Some heavy music with a basic, simple melody in he background. I like the constrast between the 2 vocalists also. Better than XX in my opinion.

Porcupine Tree - In Absentia
- Well, I finally bought this last weekend after about 5 or 6 times walking around Best Buy with it in my hand and putting it back. It hasn't left the stereo in my car since I bought it. Blackest Eyes is the coolest song. It very relaxing without that muzak feel. Some very good musicianship in my opinion.

Jet - Get Born

CD rocks in a refreshing sort of way. Kind of old school with hints of Beatles, Who, AC-DC, Ramones, with a little BTO thrown in.

If you like anything that they've done since John Bush joined the band, you'd probably like this one. I've been listening to it a lot since I got it.

After "owning" the mp3's for years I fianlly bought Morphine's "Yes", "Cure for Pain", and "The Night", proving that your support for an artist doesn't necessarily have to occur when they are alive for you to feel good about it.

The last three records I've purchased have all been pretty good.

Killing Joke - Killing Joke
Probably one of the heaviest bands I've heard in a while. It also has a certain amount of intelligence to it.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Take Them On, On Your Own.
Spacey. I like the bass work on it a lot.

A Perfect Circle - The Thirteenth Step
I was surprised when I found out Jeordie White (aka Twiggy Ramirez) was playing bass on it. He's much better (or plays a lot more) than he did in Manson.

Thursday - War All The Time
This CD absolutely owns me. It is by far the best CD I have heard in a VERY long time. This is the only CD in memory that I found to be superior to their first offering.

Hooverphonic - A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular
Heard this group on a $85,000 Wilson Audio/Naim system when I was in Chicago last month. The soundstaging is top notch. Excellent "trip hop" type, with lead vocals smooth as silk. Best enjoyed on a very high quality sound system.

Armsbendback - The Waiting Room
I've been waiting for this first release from the Trustkill band since I heard them on the "Trustkill Strikes Again!" sampler CD. Not super duper different in terms of their sound, but still a worthy purchase.

Boys Night Out - Make Yourself Sick
A good record, but I like their sound on their first CD more.

I got the new SACD of this album and am amazed at the sound quality on my regular old cd player. But, I have no money to spend on an SACD player or know anyone who has one, so I'll have to wait a while before I can get the full remastered sound off the album.

I just bought Lost Dogs and I really like it. A lot of the songs are ones I have already heard, but they have rerecorded some of them and added to others. Like in Footsteps, a song I have loved since I first heard it, they added harmonica sounds in the beginning and end of the song.

I love the songs "Other Side" and "Hard to Imagine". Probably the most standout songs for me, but its really hard to pick a favorite. Some of the songs arn't that great though, but its more than worth the purchase for me.

Bottom line, if you like Pearl Jam don't hesitate to buy it.

A tribute CD to Antonio Carlos Jobim. Absolutely marvelous. Paula Morelenbaum is even better than Astrud Gilberto. Her voice is among the purest I have ever heard. I don't understand the Portuguese lyrics and it still gets to me.
