My first demo....
Hey all, just thought I would throw this up and see what everyone thinks. I play guitar and write the songs in my band, and these are the first 2 songs of a demo we're working on. I should start working on the rest of them next week.
These aren't totally mixed, so there are a few things that I know have to be changed. We still have to bring up the vocals some, take some bass out of the second song, and there's a spot in the first song where the drums sound a little funky. The drummer played a triple-it, and it just sounds a bit weird for the part. Anyway, try to be gentle with the opinions - but I would definately like to here what you think. music |

DUDE!
Nice work! I really like both songs - they're both really catchy, both hard-rockin' with a strong melody. You are a very talented writer. In the first song, I think the vocals need to be up a little more. I LOVE your main riff. It's awesome. Second song is also really good. Nice harmonies. I'd actually be curious to hear what harmonies would sound like earlier in the chorus before they come in on "one last time." My only thoughts on it - and I don't think these are criticisms per se, the songs are great as they are, just my thoughts on what I would try if it were me - 1) In the verses, I don't know if that's a synth or something playing in the background - I would be interested in hearing what it would sound like without that track - so it's just the vocal in between the drum beats. 2) Instead of the final resolution (the two strums) at the end of the song...what if you just let it fade out after the final "one last time..." my personal opinion is that it doesn't necessarily need that resolution... Again, just my thoughts, hope you don't take offense to them or anything. You guys have a lot of potential! Great work. (edit: the page with your arcade set-up is amazing!)

Thanks both of you for the compliments.
And quadro, Wow - nice observations all around. We do still plan on bringing up the vocals, we just couldn't really tell it needed it until we got out of the studio. We originally wanted to pull that synth down some, it just took soooooo long to get the mix from the recording guy that I was afraid to ask him to make anymore changes. And that is a very good idea for the end of the second song, I am hearing stuff in my head already. The reason it ends like it does now, is because of playing it live. I sometimes forget that we don't have to have an abrupt ending in the studio. Once again, thank you very much. You ideas are greatly appreciated!!!!! ![]() |

I know what you mean. Often I leave a studio and listen back to a track I've recorded and think "how did I not hear this before?" By then, though, sometimes it's too late. ![]() Quote:

Hey, awsome work! The intro for the first song is really cool and the rest of the song is really catchy. Curse you if this stays stuck in my head ;p Second song is pretty good too, but you have a definite hit on your hands with the first one. Couple comments/questions:
1. As you said, the vocals definitely need to be louder, i could barely make them out without really trying 2. In the 2nd song, i thought the volume swell right after the palm mutes around the 2:45 mark didnt fit too well 3. Do you have a band name yet? (please dont tell me its blendertech, lol) Anyway, it'd be great if you posted again once you've made the changes and thanks again for sharing your work. |
