outkast
alright, i hate rap with a passion. just ask my friends. mostly because most the songs are pointless and/or extemely annoying. but anyway, thats besides the point, i heard the new outkast song, hey ya, and i kind of like it. i have heard some of their older songs, i kind of like them too. i have not heard all their songs, just a select few, but i do not know what it is, they have like the most imaginative sound, a style not like the other rappers. anyway does anybody else find their music just as appealing? or if you absolutely had to pick a rap group to listen to i think i would pick them.
if you like rock and want to hear a good outkast song try the bombs over baghdad remix with rage against the machine, imo good suff. |
I know the song you're talking about, and I kind of like it. I definately like Outkast while I'm pretty much a strictly rock kinda guy. I really liked the last two Outkast albums, and maybe this song will grow on me too.
|
have you heard the b.o.b. remix? i think its pretty good.
|
Outkast is very different from a lot of the other mainstream rap artists out there, and that's a good thing.
|
Yea. Their songs are orginal. Their Videos are great. And.. I generally like them. I haven't heard most of their song, but what I have heard, I like
|
I like OutKast alot, both Andre and Big Boi. This new album is great stuff, because they both got to do their own thing, and I think Andre does a little better at it.
|
They certainly do unique stuff. I think mainstream Rap and Hip Hop have been getting away with churnign out the same crap in the same fasion with the same themes (though it is probably possible to say this about any genre). Artists such as Outkast are a welcome sight, though I am not quite sold on them completley.
The hip-hop/jazz version of the song that has the line 'these are some of my favorite things' caught me by suprise on Andre's cd... And though that song may get on my nerves in the future, I like the attempt. |
not only do outkast have awesome beats and stage presence, but their lyrics are hard to beat. thats nearly impossible to find in mainstream these days. i love how they incorporate jazz and funk into their music, makes for original hip-hop like yall are talkin about.
|
I like outkast and I normally don't like most rap, but there are a few select DMX songs that I listen to.
My biggest Quarrel with rap is Live shows, When one guys rappin his song, and he's got 50 other dudes sayin like every 4th word.. Annoying as hell and ruins the song.. |

lol yeah, i see that on tv all the time. its like everyone is fighting for your attention. "look im talented because i say the last part of the rhyme ... bitches! ............ switches!" just know that underground shows arent like that, at least the ones ive been to :) |
Also check out The Roots....I can't get enough of them or Outkast and I'm not a big hip-hop, rap guy...
|
Outkast is great...there style is unmatched...nobody raps like them. They use real instruments on a lot of their songs too, which is a definent plus. Check out Stankonia, it'san awesome album.
|
Outkast > most rappers
I've been enjoying them ever since the "Stankonia" album. They're quality stuff AND not like anybody else. |
I am pretty impressed to see some reply's from people who say they despise rap, But like Outkast.
I have yet to hear either one of thier latest CD's, I have every one of thier albums except the last 1 or 2. I especially like thier first CD. They are very creative...They always have some catchy tracks |
I've always loved Outkast.....Outkast represent what the south should sound like. Most of the other cats that have came from the south have totally bastardized their sound and fucked it up completely. They're one of few southside rappers I actually like. If you like them (their originality especially) I recomend checkin out these groups as well as they are pretty damn original sounding.....
Wu-Tang Clan (best beats I've ever heard) The Roots (Just smooth as hell. Black Thought is one of my fave emcees) Tribe Called Quest (Damn....you think Outkast is some laid back chill shit....these guys along with the next invented it!) De La Soul (Prolly not as laid back as Tribe but they got a cool fun typa funk to their shit) The Fugees (broken up yeah but you can still find their shit) Theres many others but those dudes kinda started it all. Asta!! |
Yeah if you like outkast i'd check out all the groups K-wise listed, especially The Roots.
|
hey ya is the worst song on the entire double album.

Outkast continues to put out great music, while continually being completely original. Their music is truely unique to anything i've ever heard (well, most of it anywho). When I can actually afford to, i'm going to go out and buy their album... but im still gonna look for the cheapest price :P
|
outkast is the shit... the new album from andre - the love below is one of the greatest things ive ever heard
and listen to everyword k wise said all those other groups are amazing oh and u might wanan check out the dub pistols to |
Try Cannibal Ox for some really crazy beats. It's an acquired sound though, takes a bit to feel.
|
outkast is truely one of the hip hop stand out groups. they have pioneered the dirty south sound before it was dirty. they helped launch many many people into the industry. plus they always come at you with something different, but yet vaguely familar. every album has a different sound to it, yet tackles the same subjects with the same sorta flair. they are truely outstanding...and most people reconigze that. as hell the source has given all but one album 5 mics....and they went back later to post date that one with 4 1/2's to 5. every album a pure hit maker...

Slum Village Brand Nubian Dilated Peoples Blackalicous J-Live Sub-Conscious Black Star Mars Ill Lots a chill type hip-hop out. Then ya got the more abstract artists as well. Like Def Jux artists. Lots are different but they grow on ya if ya give em a good listen. Asta!! |
toss talib kweli on there too, and binary star.
but in my opinion def jux owns all :) |
How could I forget Binary? Def yo
Asta!! |
Def Jux is serious! Too bad Cannibal Ox broke up. :( I hope Vast Aire's solo deal will be good.

Outkast is an amazing, amazing band. The last album is one of the best, most versatile pieces of music I've heard in the last few years.
It's unfortunate that alot of people don't like Rap. I personally blame this on the radio. People who really like Rap know where to look to find the good stuff. Other than Outkast and a handful of others there isn't really anything on the radio. People who don't know anything about real hip-hop don't seem to realize that there's a world outside of the radio. My old roomate felt this way until I let him hear "Sililoquoy of Chaos" by Gangstarr. He was like, "this is what it's supposed to sound like?!" I assume he's not alone. |
I've been a big fan of Outkast since ATLiens. I have yet to be disappointed by any of their albums.
Their shit has feeling and emotion, which I think more artists need to put into their music, in whatever form it may be. Off the their newest Big Boi's Flip Flop Rock and Andre's My Favorite Things have to be my favorite tracks. But both CD's are quality. |
outkast is my fav- all of theirs cd's are good cuz u can put the disc in and let it ride out, "atliens"- two thumbs up
|
Their first album was "Southernplayalisticcadillacfunkymusic". It was also one of their best. The lyrical content on that album still beats pretty much anything out there today.
|
i.m.o. Andre is the different one where as Big Boi is still like the other mainstream rappers...
|
I've just recently been getting into Outkast. I think I had passed on them before over others like Jurassic 5, The Roots, Jedi Mind Tricks and the like because Outkast actually had mainstream appeal. It's been a pleasant surprise, though, finding that a popular, mainstream rap artist can actually break the mold. Great stuff.

No I just really don't like Hey ya, while the rest of the album(s) rocks. I think "happy valentine's day" is the best song on the double-album right now. |
