Music at work?
I love listening to music at work. Helps keep me in a good mood and pass the time when I'm not overly busy (sorta like posting on here).
Here is the situation though: My department just relocated to a much smaller room than we were in. In accordance our cubes got smaller and more tightly bunched. I do not want to offend anyone by playing my music too loud but headphones would be difficult because I use a headset for my phone. Should I refrain from playing music at work? |
Use your headphones, that way you don't upset anyone.
|
Set your music at a low level (where you feel you can still hear it sufficiently), and ask your officemates if that volume level bothers them while they work. Tell them to please let you know if the music is ever bugging them. By doing this, you set a very courteous example and your officemates will have no right to get angry at you if your music is bothering them - you've asked them to talk to you about it.

Can you get a combo music/phone headset? I think I've seen them in office catalogs. They cut out the music when a phone call comes in.

redlemon, what would be the fun in that. I still want to hear the music while on the phone.
Good idea quadro2000. That is what I did today. Just lookingot see how the group here felt. |
Do whatever gets you through the day, but use headphones if anyone else is in earshot.
This is common sense, of course, but I'm one of those irritable people who can't concentrate at all with background noise going on. |
I've got a radio here at work that I keep pretty low. Nobody has complained about it.
I have to have some sort of background noise. If I dont it drives me nuts. |
I need it to remind me that there is more to this world than my feable little existence.
Its really more of a sanity thing. |
Heres something that you might like mb99usa. I just asked about something like this in the computer forum, but it would work for you too. Enjoy!

I always listen to music at work, but I don't sit behind a desk in a cubicle, so maybe it's a different situation.
|
I have iTunes running all the time listening to music or talk radio while I am at work. If i had to work in silence, I think id go insane. Just keep it low.
|
Either use headphones or keep it way down to keep from bothering other people... You are after all supposed to be working. It really depends on the work environment and what your job is. But a little music usually doesnt hurt :D
This summer I just brought my new iPod with me to work. That worked pretty well. Before, I used to either bring a few cds and headphones to play them on the computer, or I would just go to the public library nextdoor and pick out something from their rather considerable jazz and classical collections. |
